  1. As much as i thought today was gonna be good, i had the fear of super firm, somehow the snow set up even though it was 40 degrees out.  this was not the case.  today was good.  maybe not JH good, but today was good.

  2. i really was thinking of leaving work at noon to make a few runs, but honestly i just kept looking at the cams and decided i have skied enough days in the fog and rain that i would pass.  The sad thing is, today is probably going to be better than Sunday.

Enough VT resorts already bought up, please don't let this one get ruined too! Can just see paid parking, pay to use the cabin, half the lifts closed mid week to save money.

i couldnt agree more, but Elk is so funny.  no tree skiing.  hardly any discounts.  no indy pass.  no fucks given.  dont wanna ski here?  we dont care.

But at some point, the fun of owning a ski resort has to wear off.

What I couldn't necessarily understand was why main and lazy were top to bottom guns a blaze but nothing on switch or side.  Challenge is close and Nightmare dreams whales are massive. They're clearly going for straight park on NMDW otherwise I have to think it would've opened it has so much snow.

Im not sure on the park thing on NMDW.  Need to factor in the weather a little.  Snow making temps are gone for a week or so now, we knew it was gonna come to an end today, and then rain.  So, to me, it seems like there is a decision to be made.  Keep pumping snow on trails so they have a good base, or stop at what will get them open, and move on.  I am in the minority that would have kept pumping snow on challenge and NMDW, rather than move over to side (which will require tons of snowmaking), and switch, just to lay down some snow, and watch it rain.  Take a close look at lower main.  it doesnt have a good base, and since like 15 trails come together there, it could be a problem later in the season.

Last year, NMDW was open, but if you remember, it sucked, pretty much all the time.  there wasnt enough snow on it.  the first 2 turns were narrow, couldnt really get your groove on.  I dont remember challenge being steller any time i skied it either.

the whole quality over quantity might apply here.

Not trying to propagate rumors, just checking if anyone's heard anything. Twice now on lifts this year I've had chair mates claim there's maybe soon to be change in ownership at Elk. First was just relaying a cryptic comment from a sales counter person. Second was from an older "been there forever" skier claiming more explicitly that they have two different offers on the table right now.

Anyone have real info? Or just the perennial rumors that seem to happen every year?

No knowledge what so ever, but i wouldnt doubt if there is an offer on the table for Elk at all times.  i dont see why Vail or KSL wouldnt want to scoop it up.

Rode this morning c1er in the house but he was too fast on rasins and I could never catch him.

I pretty much went up to ski rasins, it looked primo from the lift yesterday and I hadn't ridden it at all.

First chair I was alone and with no AS out front to give me a preview I stuck to 90% speed but about half way down I realized it was straight butter and let them go.

It was so nice to open them up a bit and make endless plunging arcs in what was 9/10 razors. I rode that 4 or 5 times in a row but everyone else had the same idea and it got too crowded for speed runs.

Lazy was most excellent, coming soon is exactly the same, ratty headwall but primo grip.

Sadly the blew and were blowing on upper main so that was far more scrambley then the weekend but still smaller cookies so medium rippage.

Not surprised but sad to see no action on switch or side, they were blowing the yellow fans, upper main and the first headwall on challenge.

Maybe the biggest news I met the dude sleeping in his car.  Eric from Maryland he stays at the AT lot as blue wouldn't let him live in theirs.  Hyper stoked to ski blue, so much I had to re think my general bitching about all the dumb stuff they do.  He was aware of our group and came up to me from my bright clothing but good dude with an interesting story.

i was pretty jealous of those that could ski Raisins yesterday.  it did look and sound really nice from the lift yesterday.  Glad to hear they didnt mess it up.

Sadly, both days with great conditions were crowded enough that i had my fill at 9:30.  Others have more patience than me for a lift line, but when its at the scanners thats about when its my time to leave.  All this isnt limited to Blue, thank the multi-mountain pass i guess.  weird shit pops up on my FB, and i found this.

Ok I'm bringing it down a few notches. The above was based on coming soon, lower dis, Razors somehow is ass. Cookie field until the lower headwall where it gets good again.

They opened raisins at 2 pm. It was good until 2:05. Lol.
like any newly opened trail at blue. Widow should be good by tomorrow.

  10. Completely ignored plowing the driveway in favor of taking a tour around the block on the uphill setup.

all people do in my development is complain about the roads not being plowed down to the asphalt. I say embrace it. It was nice just to get out and play in the snow.

  11. Very fun rare mid week morning for me.  Really nice to see snowmaking progress from the past week.  Big gains.  Pretty busy by 11:30, just lapped lazy after the others had to go do that work BS.  Lazy was kind of 3D by then and super fun, other than watching for the masses of people on trail.  Falls was nice too.  Hopefully cuzie's/raceway/widowmaker will be a little nicer tomorrow, it was just kind of typical of the Blue cycle of grooming right after opening a trail, skiable but marble-y.  Midway was pretty nice.  NMDW has more snow on it than Challenge, but hopefully both will be open before the end of our nice snowmaking stretch. it will be really nice to do the lefty-righty down NMDW again.  Hopefully they dont put park BS on there for the 15 people at Blue that do that.  Nothing sucked about today.

Rode today from 905 to 11, dudes on the lift said Blue doesn't want to pay the day rate. Seems dumb to me but who knows, they did turn the yellow fans on at 1030 pretty much everywhere.

Snow was not as good today, too much blowing made for some hard stuff and cookies.  Upper main was glacial from the start but about 1/3 down it went to a carpet. Lazy and dis continue to be very good. They opened Widow though it was a hilarious field of cookies and glacial.

Coming Soon was rotd as the headwall was ratty but had perfect grip to let them go.  They were working on pushing out razors and had come around pushed out but not open. Someone on the lift said switch is next but take that with a big grain of salt.

Good day and with some natural tomorrow am could be very good.....now all I have to do is get out of work

Widow all the way to Midway?  Either way i will take it, but i will be impressed if its to Midway.

I do feel like they are throttling back the snowmaking at times, whether its their call or not.  It might be some KSL influence too.  And it could be directly proportional as to how many cars are parked in the paid parking.

They didn't have anything going earlier when I checked, now just ambiance guns going.

Why aren't they going hard on Challenge and/or Switch?

They need to make snow while the temps are down, not piss them away!

its hard to tell if they are working on NMDW, which is what someone said they started yesterday.  it kinda looks like they are, but its hard to tell.  if you look at the vista cam, up in the very left hand corner it looks like some snow clouds, maybe the lower part of come around?

Ok, from the tubing cam it looks like DW is definitely on.

Personally, i dont feel they ever run full blast. Ever.  Compared to what other resorts have in capacity, and how much (slopewise) they run, its not impressive to me.  I think Frost is 6K gpm, and it kinda seems like thats about what Blue runs.  I think shortly Frost will be 100%.  Granted, its smaller, and a little better temps, but i kinda feel the powerhouse Blue claims to have, they should pace them or beat them to 100%.

Here is a crazy idea... Maybe they could turn the lights off after close to save a few pennies.

i have always wondered why when they have the lights on, all of them are on, yet they are blowing on main street.  Im not like a super cheap guy, but when i get home i dont turn on every light i have, just cause.
