  1. I actually agree with you on this one Doug. I don't see the point of going that heavy with the snowmaking so early if you're not gonna open something. I mean people would accept crappy conditions better than a bunch of blown snow sitting there unused for 2 to 3 weeks. Ultimately their call though, I just shovel when they say get to work.
  2. Yea five sounds about rightish. Not sure what skier visits has to do with anything. Any mistakes in the articles numbers aside I think the point was the temps are above average and they are having a tough time justifying opening. I don't really blame em honestly.
  3. Sounds like they had a good turnout during the waking winter party, and that was in the rain. I don't see why they wouldn't let people keep riding it for a small fee. Free for season pass holders like they did it on friday.
  4. Looks like they left the hike park up, not sure if they made an official announcement as to whether it is open to the public now or what.
  5. Might have been longer than that Kyle, this is my fifth year and I don't ever remember a hike park. I think I saw somebody say in 09 or so they had one. Before my time there. It will probably be pretty crowded for the party but I doubt the rails will be mobbed. 6-10 for the hike park so I'd think in 4 hours you can find a window where there is some breathing room. I'm tempted to go up for the ugly sweater contest.
  6. I don't know that we have ever had an early or late season hike park. I see it but I don't believe it. Looks awful close to the base. Maybe they are planning some fun for their big party this friday. I haven't heard or seen an official announcement about it yet though. You would think if they are setting that up for the waking winter that they might advertise it in some way to draw more party people. I know if I was going up there to party and found a hike park I would be excited, unless of course I didn't bring my gear. https://www.facebook.com/BearCreekMountainResort?ref=stream Nevermind, there is your official announcement as of 15 minutes ago.
  7. From their snowmaking pics it looks like they could have opened two weeks ago ha. I haven't gotten an email yet. Temps look bad this week anyway. I'm kind of surprised they didn't go for a super early opening with how much snow they piled up so early.
  8. I'd bet early december. They could open this weekend with this cold snap, but with rain and 60s ahead I don't see em opening just yet. Who knows though, not me for sure. I've got a crew meeting coming up this week but I doubt we will get any solid info on an opening just yet.
  9. I knew you were talking about AI Johhny, but we have had some pretty buggy days this summer at CHSP as well. Nothing like the black flies down at AI though. I did get hit by chiggers at CHSP a few years ago though. Interesting stuff about the water, I don't know any names down there as I'm just an out of stater and I've only been going there about 6 years now. I hate delaware seashore campground though for sure, camped there once maybe 8 years ago, never again. A campground where they don't allow fires?? Hell no. Doug the horses are in AI Maryland, no ponies on the beach in DE.

I'll give elk one thing, they have some funky terrain to goof around on if you don't get caught. Little boulder drops and such here and there. Great woods, just like everyone else is saying watch out for the redcoats.......oh and don't end up in some condo's backyard or fall in the pond ha.
  11. One thing I can look forward to this weekend, at least there shouldn't be many bugs at all ha. Yea we hiked in to an oceanside backcountry site when I camped at assateague, bugs were relentless. Not a bad price to pay though to camp right in the dunes above the high tide line. Cold weather, rain, bugs, I don't give a crap what happens this weekend, I'll be grinnin ear to ear as long a I can find one of them stripers on the end of my line at some point. If all else fails, the cape henlopen disc golf course never disappoints...........and then there's always whisky and a big fire. I'll try to get some pics to throw up on here.
  12. well not right on the beach, the campground is like a quarter mile from the beach. Down in Assateague though you can pretty much camp right on the beach.
  13. I'm hoping a little before Xmas. We shall see, never know with this Pennsyltucky weather. Like I'm going to the beach camping this weekend, so of course its 60s and sunny all week only to drop 30 frickin degrees before the weekend gets here. Looks like I'll be buying the BIG bottle of Crown Royal for this beach fishing/camping trip. Still haven't had one day of rain though in like 7 or 8 trips down to DE this season, so that's pretty stoketastic.
  14. Most likely just testing em out. I haven't heard for sure one way or the other though. Being so far south I'd bet they hold off a bit again like they have in years past. I can't blame em, why waste the water and energy to try early. Once a solid cold snap hits they can coat the whole place and open 100% in something disgusting like 2 or 3 days flat.
  15. Predator indeed will be grooming for us again as far as I can tell so far. Anyone from crew the past few years knows how good that will be. I mean I'm sure he's not a pro operator yet but I'd bet every dollar I have on that guy being the best park groomer we've had since we lost the old man No offense Mother Goose, you were a beast in the cat too. Thanks Johnny, I'll map check that, but it sounds pretty much like the roads I was checking out already, I'm thinking it should be in the 30 minute range or so. You gonna ride there this year Jibhonk?? I'll PM ya my number if ya are, always fun riding with old crew veterans. GSS, moving cause renting sucks and I'm going all in with the GF. Figured it's about time we took the plunge and give her 3 kiddos a stable home to grow up in. Cheaper options out that way. Still in berks, sizable house, nice yard, 2 car garage for my toys, and I think I could walk to the rock climbing quarry and a number of quality trout streams. Not to mention I could drag my kayak to the schuykill for some bass fishing in about 5 minutes flat. All in all I'm excited to go back. I mean it's no Beaver Creek, but it should be another fun season at the local mountain.
  16. I thought dodging late day crowds IS how you stay in shape skiing PA. And if you've never been injured on a bar stool or dance floor I'd say you aren't partying hard enough.
  17. Thanks GSS, I wasn't really worried, I've been talking with the new Parks manager over there all summer so I was pretty sure it was a lock. I probably would have just picked up a bunch of random lift tickets at our ski club auction had I not been hired back haha. Seriously though, ski club auctions have amazing deals on all kinds of tickets and ski trips. I'm missing ours this year as I'm heading down to the beach one more time next weekend.
  18. Why, did you apply and they didn't get back yet??? I'm a fifth year returning employee haha, I better have gotten the job. On a more serious note though, I took my pic and am holding my employee season pass, so yes I think it's safe to say I got the job. Good luck if you also applied, it's a fun gig. Only crappy part is I'm moving to Birdsboro in like two weeks so my drive will be a little longer this year.
  19. Might be looking into some binders to put on the new Icelantic........and new boots someday, dear god do I need new boots. 8 hour shifts on park crew the last 4 years have caused my liners to um pack out a little you could say.
  20. AKA the most harmless snake on the entire East coast excepting maybe the hognose snake which will actually play possum and stick it's tongue out ha. Any snake will give ya a startle though if you're not expecting it. I found a water snake halfway through eating a brown trout on the side of a creek up in Alburtis this summer. This is from last week but what the heck. Blues are going off down at the beaches right now. This thing has a much better chance of taking a chunk out of you than that snake ha.
  21. Nice sticks. I got my new ones for this season at the end of last season........for free.......because I drank two beers......they've got a sweet custom topsheet with......um beers on it. I'm totally claiming here if you haven't noticed. Sweet TR though man, seriously. Love getting surprises from the UPS man. Maybe I will hit you up for one of those blue 6 packs you were talking about somewhere on here. Wouldn't mind getting up there and getting a few laps with some of you Blue PASR guys again.
  22. BC employee pass for me. I'd kill for a trip or two up to VT. Been two years since I've been in the beautiful Green Mountain State. Our ski club winter carnival is at the Bush this year so I might take the old fogey bus ride with my dad.
  23. Haha maybe if Bear doesn't want me back this year. That's a bit farther of a drive though. If I lived 10 minutes from you guys I'd be all over this. You still river guiding??? Cause I might be calling you this spring, I wanna spend at least one summer of my life guiding on the lehigh. Maybe I'll make it up to a Park1260 jam this year some time.
  24. Well yes, I am building, I am skiing, I am interacting with guests and firsthand seeing and hearing from people enjoying and appreciating my hard work. So to me it is worth a whole lot more than a little extra dough and a season pass. Also, I ain't getting any younger and a little manual labor over the winter is also more than welcome in my opinion. Pretty sure they already have an interwebs updater kind of guy on staff, although it would appear this site is not really on his radar. I mean no hate on PASR, but how many mountains on here actively have a semi regular official presence for updates and current info?? Like I said before, BC customers were just pretty lucky on here that the park manager was an active member and realized that little updates went a long way to keeping riders happy and informed.
  25. Yea but there is the little problem on this site at least that there is basically no marketing representation whatsoever. And I'm about as unbiased as it gets when it comes to park updates. It's not my full time job or even my favorite mountain. I work there because I like the extra money, I like the mountain(just as much as any other mountain in PA), and I like working behind the scenes on the hill to improve other skiers and riders experience. I like the park scene even if I'm not a huge park rat myself. I grew up in the nineties, extreme sports are second nature to me and I like still being in the scene. I've built and skated/rollerbladed rails, halfpipes, quarterpipes, and launchramps as a kid. I've built and rode dirt bmx jumps all throughout my childhood. I've visited many skateparks around the area and rode them on bikes, blades, or skateboard. This stuff is just second nature to me and I enjoy it. I enjoy being there, I enjoy working on it, and most of all I enjoy the vibe of all the people enjoying it and riding together. I try to keep opinion out of any update or reply I put on here, and in turn I haven't been fired yet ha. I honestly don't know if BC even monitors this site but considering what I posted before I'm sure they at least check from time to time and I'd rather not take chances.
