Wow...I'm kinda glad I didn't go yesterday after reading about those crowds. Whats up with Floyd's (and Lehigh) by the way? Those whales have been there for a solid week now if not more. Getting more open will allieviate some of the crowding. Regardless I'll be back tomm and hopefully I'll be parking right up front again.

We got about 6 inches - just got finished shoveling it. I'll be back on the hill tomm. Hopefully there will be no one there and the trees will be skiable, oh and hopefully Floyd's will be open.

Just got back from JF. Pulled into the lot around 11:45. The place was insane. I couln't find a spot close by and I drove around a few times to find something semi close to the entrance. I booted up and headed for the snow where there was a good number of people by the lodge. This was easily the busiest day that I have seen it this year and maybe ever. I got my ticket and headed straight for T bolt. The snow was sugery and scraped off hardpack was to be found in the middle of the trails. I'm glad I got my edges sharpened. Headed straight for East Mt. where they had both lifts running and small lines were forming on each side. Sadly, the skull and crossbones pirate flag was not flying at the East Mt. lift. What gives there??? Put it back There was pretty much a mass of people on River Shot and East Mt. Floyds was not yet open to alleviate some of that traffic. There were a good number of people who probably should not have been on East. I saw lots of people sliding down the headwalls...and not on their skis. All in all, today was fun, it was perfect skiing weather, the sun. Hopefully next week the crowds dissipate a bit.

Just got back from a quick outing at JF. Pulled up around noon and the lot was fairly full. There was a small line at the ticket window so I went right to the pass validation hut and got my ticket. I went directly for thunderbolt then hit east mt. The snow was serious hardpack with sugar on top...definitely not my favorite conditions but with the heavy rain last night I guess it wasn't too bad. I was a bit disappointed to see that Floyd's hasn't opened yet. I did laps on River shot and called it a day. There were a good amount of people but I was there at peak time so that's to be expected. Still lots of fun though. The trees took a beating with all of the rain. I saw two people hit Mad Tree a few times but I stayed out of it. Challenge glade looked like there was still snow in it. I didn't attempt it though. Rocks were exposed pretty much everywhere. Hopefully we'll get some snow soon to replenish the trees.

I'll probably be there around 11am. Weather looks like it will be nice with some possible flurries. Anyone else going to be there?

It's Jim Thorpe...which is a good 20 minutes from Blue.

A few of those might be mine. On wednesday there were no tracks in there at all. The braches poking through made it look worse than it really was.

Too early for me. Should be nice though.

At first I was hesitant to mention it but it's really not this hard to find stash that the locals pruned out over the off season. This is a new area that JF cut during the offseason and advertised on their site as new for this year. There isn't a trail sign but the entrance is so blatently obvious to anyone who looks for it. Not only that but you can see people skiing in it from the East mt lift as well. Weekenders / people who seldom ski likely wont even think to head in there because there is no trail sign.

Thanks for the TR Method!! Sorry I missed it today. It is tight in there for sure. Most of the skiing / riding through trees happens when you cut over to East Mt. The tight turns on the headwalls are fun too. That's a nice little gem for sure at Jack Frost.

Unfortunately I dont know if I can make it tomm. I'll see how it goes though.

Just got home from another nice day at Jack Frost. I got there around 11:45, booted up in the lot, got my ticket and headed straight for Thunderbolt. The snow was nice and fast on Thunderbolt. I then headed over to East mt. They blew a ton of snow all over East and Solitude Telstar were open. There was an "ungroomed" sign at the top of lightning. The snow they blew last night was untouched which meant sticky, man made snow and snow snakes were everywhere. It looks like they're trying to let river shot bump up which will be nice once it is bumped. I did a few leg burning laps on the ungroomed river shot then headed over to the challenge glades...once again the run of the day. I later hit Mad Tree which looked sketchy at first but wasn't all thet bad, really gluey and tough to turn on. It was best just to pick a straight line and go. They were blowing on Floyds Folly and that should be done by the weekend. I was scoping out the Elevator. I saw once set of tracks but I wasn't going to attempt it with what little snow was on it. There are tree branches, brush etc. all over it that I really couldn't find the line once there is enough snow. It just doesn't look skiable anymore. Maybe I have to scope it out from the bottom of Floyd's once thats open. All in all another great day at JF, not as good as yesterday due to all of the sticky snow but still good. When I left it was snowing pretty good...probably just a squall (sp?) though.

You head down Challenge and bear right maybe 50 yards into the trees. You'll notice that it's pretty much thinned out , not hard to find at all. just follow it down maybe 400 vert and you'll see the first way out. The first way is pretty much a flat trail that takes you right below river shots first head wall. The second way (a bit further down) is the funner way. It'll take you through some forest which brings you directly under the East Mt. lift. Keep going right through some more trees and it'll put on River Shot just before Little Cliff Huck. That was the way I went. I assume it's all ok to ski on. I think a patroller saw me and didn't say anything. There are a few ways that looked pretty nice IMO. I'll be there also around 11:45. We should get a roll call goin'.

Just got back from a sweet session at Frost...got there around 12:45. Did my first run on Thunderbolt then headed right over to East Mt. The guns were blowing on pretty much everything that wasn't open (except Floyd's Folly) and they stayed on the whole time so apparantly they going 'round the clock which is nice. I did a few laps on Lightning / River shot. The snow was crusty but still edgable. There was a fun section under the East Mt. lift that shot you out back onto River shot where you could get a little air. Did that a few times then headed over to the trees to the right of Challenge. (See photo below) This was the run of the day! I'm assuming this is what they cleared out during the summer. There was powder to be found in there. After skiing through there a bit you can bear right, under the East Mt. lift, and back onto river shot. I even hit the little cliff huck a few times. I did notce that the trail signs for Little Clif Huck, Risk it and the Elevator were all taken down. The Mad Tree Glade sign was still there though. Another great day at JF. I live a few minutes from JFBB. We got about 5 inches of snow and 2 inches of ice. It was all sleet / freezing rain last night and it turned to snow around 1pm today and stopped around 4 or 5. Shoveling it was a serious pain. I literally walked out and was standing and walking around on top of 4 to 5 inches of solid snow.

Tunk, before it fully bumps up, is a lot of fun.

I'll agree getting a ticket sucks when you have a pass, but there rarely is a line. There is also a season pass validation kiosk at JF (I don't know about Boulder). It's really not that bad. By the way this whole comparing Blue to BB is just silly. There is no comparison. BB is fun when you havent skied in 7 months but size wise it's a molehill compared to Blue. I don't think anyone can deny that. Jack Frost on the other hand has legit terrain and snow that can compare favorably with Blue IMO.

What I like about Blue is trails like Lazy Mile, switchback, sidewinder, even Burma Road. I like winding trails that have some pitch to them. I can't think of any other trails in the area like that except for Kickapoo at Elk. Like Steeze said, CB flattens out way too quickly.

Believe it or not, that was at noon...I was salviating looking at that on the way up.

Just got back from another really fun day at JF. I thought the heavy rain this morning would have taken it's toll and I almost didn't go but that would have been a huge mistake. The snow was still great. Pretty much the same as it has been the past few days, granular really nice for arcing wide turns on T Bolt and Challenge. I got to the lot a little after 12 and the sun was peaking out which was nice to see. Did laps on T Bolt and Challenge for the most part then headed over to Exhibition and Janes Lane before I called it a day. The snow in the trees was really gluey and tough to turn on so I really didn't venture in there. Once again there was practically no one there which made it really sweet.
