Just an update.. nearly the entire suite of models save for one or two now have the storm either just off or about 100 miles off the coast. This is a positive development... run of the GFS is just coming in..

Right now it looks Snow -> Rain -> Snow for a majority of spots. However, the backside of this could be intense... dropping a good 3-6" of snow after the changeover. but before that.. we'll get 1-2" of rain. This is still 4-5 days out.. but the trend has been east. Just keep in mind actual low tracks have been verifying about 100 miles W of the model consensus.. at least thats the pattern. you want this thing about 100-150 mi off the NJ coast.. right now it looks at best to be going through NJ.

Anyone been up yet.. hows the conditions.. a lot of ice?

Was there tonight... excellent first impression. I don't know but as a noob i absolutely dig both long greens on either end of the mountain. Plenty of space to mess around in.. for the amount of shit people talk on Blue.. i didnt see it tonight. A little ice.. but not much. One thing.. the position of the nastar trail is absolutely dumb IMHO.. it should be out of the way.. but thats my only complaint.

2" total from today with about 3"-4" total on the ground here in Reading. This is the first time all winter where the grass has been completely covered in snow. I'm lovin it! Waiting a little bit longer for them to salt then i'm up to bear creek.. I got summer tires on my car so even a little snow sucks.. but the road is always heavily salted (i was told once bear creek pays longswamp twp extra money to keep that road salted more frequently).. so i'm not worried..

Harder to melt away ... it was coming down hard around 3:45-4:00.. looks like we may have picked up another half inch or so.. thats a lot more than the coating the weather service was predicting..

I dunno.. to me, you shouldn't be in there unless you are actually using the terrain.. or at least doing something useful.. say video/pictures or something.. but yeah, it seems like the subject of these kids comes up again and again ain't...

WTF were they doing in the park? I will admit, once or twice i have been through BB and Cascade with friends.. but I stay so far off to the side that I am out of the way of everything. I don't use it as a shortcut though like some people

I plan to hit up BC in about 2 hours.. gonna wait until the snow stops... and seeing if a friend is gonna go. But yeah, its going to be nice tonight. Already another 1" of new stuff here in Reading.. with a lil more to come.. 2" on the ground down here.

Looks like some more fresh stuff this afternoon! looks good for an new inch for Spring, BC, and Blue in the least...

Tyler.. agreed.. you may be a shit starter.. but you have a point. Just don't be like camelback and bilk another $5 out of the park kids. But some of these young ones need to know that cutting people off to use a rail (Saw that in the kiddie park yesterday) is NOT acceptable, and very dangerous. I have to admit, when that kid fell on the other end, I thought to myself "serves you right for cutting the person waiting IN LINE off" If enough people complain about the issues, BC will act.

I'm starting to get annoyed with the younger kids... which are showing no knowledge of park etiquette.. like running up a rail right after somebody is just coming off. That's how people get hurt. I wonder how many of them bother to read that sign.. probably none

Believe me.. if its cold and the snow is decent.. people will come no matter when it is. May they have to go back to $25 extended day tix again? maybe. But from what I heard.. Bear Creek financially is doing way better than they expected. Taking just season pass holders.. even before the season they were already up 20%. Money is not a problem with Bear Creek. Neither is crowds. There was a decent crowd tonight for it being 0F on the slopes.

Well.. from being at BB last week, unless things have changed dramatically.. the conditions are all but the same right now between the two mountains. Hats off to the BC snowmaking/grooming crew.. they are kicking ass. All we need is a slightly below normal or average february with a snowstorm or two and I can't see why BC can't be open until April. Yeah there's gonna be some warm weather in March.. but typically it does not get that warm... just has been in past years.

Mark.. I figured there would be where a problem may lie. So I guess this really long cold snap is a good sign for late season action, eh?

Mark thanks for the explanation.. that makes a lot of sense. Question. How much snow do you guys think you could make, and is there any like theoretical limit to the amount of snow the mountain can handle (such as where it becomes unstable, etc -- I know it aint a mountain, but snow can still shift) I mean, I can't remember a 62" base ever at bear... I watched the conditions even before I went snowboarding..

So here's a stupid question.. I know they've been working hard on cascade and black bear.. any word when they're going to redo the kiddie park to bring back those small jumps? there's one big mound at the end.. but um i dunno about that right now.. haha i'm just starting out.. jus curious

Nope.. that i didn't understand at all.. it was more than cold enough. and the real stuff fizzled out.. i hope they make snow tonight.. the hill needs some fresh stuff.. fake stuff will have to do.. pray we get something substantial Saturday into Sunday...

Yes, you are correct. it will blow around. Whiteouts anyone? haha nahh not that bad. Either way, this is definitely good news all around.
