Long range forecasts have been showing this for about a week now. Significant early season cold snap right around halloween... accuweather has just begun to show this. Look at the forecasts for Lake Harmony and the other resort towns. Highs in the 40s and lows well below freezing. Would not be shocked to hear that big boulder was testing out the guns come Halloween night...

It just seems to me like this was really poorly handled. You just cannot shut your guns off for two months straight and expect the snow to last. Their margins HAD TO be higher this year. Running those things (electric especially) is one of the biggest expenses on the mountain. There was just no warning at all... and then to have your CAD in a raging rainstorm. When I saw they were staying open I was like, wtf. Hmm, saving yourself quite a bit of money there I'm sure season pass prices will go up next year. Eh, just frustrated. I'm going to Camelback...

Anybody catch those dudes in the park last night in nothing but underwear.. the one dude caught an edge coming off the first jump and wiped out. That HAD to be cold as hell. I've seen it all at Bear Creek now I'm surprised Ski Patrol didn't even catch these guys...

Wish Pinnacle in Reading was still there.. got eaten by the Buckmonster. However, there's a few pinnacle folks working to open up a new shop nearby but that doesn't help you now.

Was it really busy up there today? Was up at Blue.. Bear was a zoo Saturday...

Closing had more to do with the cobination of rain/wind/debris. But yes, if the cameras are any indication.. they might have lost 50% of their snowpack if not more

Yeah, wasn't looking that way earlier.. but that storm for the weekend is gradually moving north. We're overdue for a real good dump up here...

Thank god they are blowing tonight

Conditions are better right now methinks than they were at their best points last year... that's kind of impressive. There's no way you guys couldn't have an 70-80" base by the time this cold spell is done (which looks like the 15th if not later.. thats a shitload of time... I would second the complaints on the waffle pricing.. way too much for what you get.

The lodges at Blue do leave a lot to be desired.. if anything needs to be upgraded in the 2010 offseason, that's DEFINITELY it. For such a big mountain you'd think they'd have better amenities..

Nice.. can't wait for some new stuff. Conditions tonight on some of the trails were pretty icy.. a few had some huge ruts (including one in Black Bear Park). ah well, we were spoiled there with January conditions a full month early...

NWS just updated.. 10-20" SE PA.. a foot in Lehigh Valley.. 6-8" in the poconos.. Spring Mountain, Bear, and Blue look to be the winners here. Anyone in Reading with a four wheel drive?

The NAM did it again at 0z (7pm run)... it passes right over whats called the benchmark. Essentially this would be a blizzard... starts about 1pm saturday.. snow starts falling at a rate of 1-2" from say dinnertime through dawn sunday.. best snows of 20+" are actually south of the mountains.. but everybody gets slammed. Add to this the christmas storm thats now in the cards and you bet your sweet ass it will be like skiing in the rockies around here for a few days (minus the sick vertical drops lol!)

Yeah there were a few bare spots.. but overall very nice conditions.. only gets better than this from here! Be back this weekend, hopefully for some real pow...

I'll be there. Busy day tomorrow so its probably going to only be a couple hours of afternoon riding between working and a meeting I have at 7pm.
