  1. One thing is for sure that it looks like it will be really windy either way and that spells bad news for you if you are thinking of using the main lifts at CB. Sure they'll have the fixed grip lift(s) open, but they're incredibly old and slowwwwwww. I would head to Blue as others have mentioned.
  2. Accuweather does suck no doubt about that. But it's always nice to see hope of a big storm when March is approaching. This time next month it'll be pretty much game over for the pocono resorts.
  3. ^^^ That map looks way too north for us. Damn Joe Bastardi is saying up 1-2ft in NYC for cryin' out loud. Here's hoping for a major dumpage.
  4. Paralyzing Snow Storm NYC Area Thursday into Friday I will believe it when I see it. So many times this year the North Jersey area has been robbed. Here is what Joe Bastardi leading winter weather expert from Accu Weather says this morning. It is interesting and clearly if he is wrong he will be wrong in a huge way. TUESDAY 6 AM SEVERE STORM, WORST OF THE SEASON FOR MANY, TO CLOSE PARTS OF NORTHEAST AND COASTAL NORTHERN MID ATLANTIC Lets take off the gloves..a storm of severe proportions, arguably the worst of the year as far as absolute power, a blockbuster, is in the making. In addition, meteorologicaly, it leaves nothing on the playing fled..phasing all three branches and then stalling! It is in the category of the 1958 and 1969 storms referenced here and shown on the Big Dog, and may be as close to 1888 as we can get. Like 1888, the storm was centered between DC and Baltimore. Much fo the NYC metro area looks like they are in for a 1-2 foot storm with 2-3 days of gales. The storm starts hammering away Thursday and does not wind down completely till the weekend. PHL looks like it could get a foot. Once to DC its alot of wind and a little snow. I am using these areas as an example. In the NYC area, the snow is wetter as temps are 28-33 and so power outages within 50 miles of the rain snow line will be a problem. Further southwest its colder, so drifting is the problem. Once into interior eastern Pa north of the TPk north through western and central New York and into much of New England, this is by far the worst of the winter., Arguably, for much of the area from eastern Pa through western New England back to western and central New York, we are talking a storm that will rival 1993 as far as hardship goes. It is not as cold, but lasts longer with several waves of snow, the first of which has begun in a gentle fashion. The strong upslope on the west side of the mountains, the severe cold that will come in ( temps Friday in the teens in PIT for example, the deep snowcover, the strong winds means the shutting down of high ground areas from WVA into western Pa due to strong blowing and drifting even though amounts will not be as great as northeast of there. The current storm in Texas will have its energy start to reform the storm off the Carolinas tomorrow night and snow will break out in the Carolinas and start northeast through the mid atlantic coastal plain.. coming up from the south. In the strange, topsy turvy world of weather this is, with the arctic injection charging southeastward into the southwest part of the storm, maritime air means heavy rains, not snow, for southeast New England and the coastal areas to Maine, though further northwest, this is a doozy. A seasons worth of snow for many in ski country. In the plains, two major events that will help make this storm are underway. The southern plains... the energy in the southern branch is evident with the Texas snowstorm. Now entering the US, a True number busting arctic air mass with bad intentions as it supplies the baroclinic energy for this. I remind folks, that the strong downturn of the SOI and the blocking referenced here 3 weeks ago for my theory as to why this period was something to behold, is playing off. It is no co-incidence that this is going on. I think there is danger for some of these places to be shut down for 2-4 days over the northeast. The target big cities for the worst have NYC rated 1, PHL 2 and it will be a worse storm further northwest than in these cities, but this is a severe event all the the way to the jersey shore. BWI looks to be in the 6 inch area Truly a magnificent event as far as the meteorology and the weather too, combining to slam areas the worst, that have had the thirst for storms that have been mainly to their south. Enjoy, but get ready, this could be crippling event for a few days.
  5. Everyone knows I like to ..err bitch about Camelback closing lifts in marginal weather. They won't close the mountain down completely, but if a couple people sneeze too hard, CB may shut down their highspeed lifts due to wind and blowing debris. The main factor they say are winds, but we all know that if attendance is low they will shut them down just to save $. It's a crapshoot...you feelin' lucky?
  6. Holy crap. I've never seen the webcam like today. You literally can't even see snow at the base, it's just people. CB is making some serious $ today. I'm sure you can't even get up to cruising speed because of the crowded trails. Hell, I go when the 1st lot isn't even full and there's people on the trails (sometimes). Can't imagine trying to ski/ride there today. Sooooon the gapers will be gone and I will be back
  7. ^^^ Or even Hidden Valley in NJ, it's right next to Mountain Creek and most people don't even know it exists. Great for beginners and little kids and much cheaper tickets.
  8. So the tail end of the season is upon us. Once this week is over we can start to count the days until the end of the season. Do any local mountains turn the guns on after this week? Seems like Camelback never does, not sure about Blue or the others. So nice to have a fresh surface sometimes late in the season.
  9. oh ya I see your thread now... oopszies. I fudged that one eh' Ashy?
  10. Ashy I was going to say you're spamming the general chat forum, but you are kinda....fudging it. (Sorry I couldn't resist)
  11. Not sure about the VIP line. I go midweek starting at 7pm and ride till close and the hill is empty. Always get the quad to myself, so I don't know about lines. Getting there early is key, but it's now almost 10 and the lines are horrendous already. Plus getting up early to go skiing is not my thing.
  12. Amazing line at the quad this morning before the lift even opened. Normally I check the webcam around 9am during the week to find not a soul around and the lifts spinning empty. Not today. "Enjoy" skiing/riding this President's Week with all the cool gapers!
  13. Didn't make it up there. Just checked the webcam and there's still a few people out there. Doesn't look like the quad is open though, but it looks like they're staying open till 9pm
  14. Should be nice tomorrow no doubt, but I bet CB will groom the entire mountain tonite
  15. Even with my incessant ranting, I still feel CB is the best around. Like I said in another thread, it's really close to me and with no lines you can lap that place like no other. And don't tell me you wouldn't have a problem if you drove in dangerous weather to get to a SKI RESORT to find out that the main lifts aren't running. The winds aren't supposed to be that bad anymore and schools have off. I guess I'll see what the weather brings tomorrow in the am. Edit: Oh yeah Steeze, this is my 97th post total...how many do you have? Oh yeah, over 20 THOUSAND
  16. I want to make the trip to CB for a powder day tomorrow, but with snow forecasted I'm thinking the Sullivan and Stevenson will be shut down because of (drumroll please) snow... They close the lifts for any stupid reason and not being able to ride the mountain in a snowstorm would be f^ckin' stupid. What do ya'll think?
  17. Kevin...Welcome back! Got the blues yet?! I would. BTW, Danielle's insurance may go up anyway even if she wasn't at fault. It happened to me once. Welcome to New Jersey.
  18. Nice. If that were at say Mountain Creek, someone would've been using your shit in less than 5 minutes.
  19. Kevin, you do realize that you have completely ruined skiing/riding for yourself when you get home. I can't imagine wanting to go to the poconos after being out there for so long. Once late February comes along and you get the itch to ride again, you're going to be sorely dissapointed in everything... Make the most of it out there!
  20. Got home too late to go today dammmmmnit....but yea man I only go weekday nights...usually tues/wed/thurs.
  21. I'm headin up...too bad you left. Good TR
  22. I may try to make a quick run up there tomorrow night. I usually don't get to the mtn during the week until ~7pm... That's why in the other thread I said I wanted 10pm back lol. 9 comes up quick. You goin'?
