  1. Damn... that's awesome, gotta look into that.
  2. 50,000 points on Southwest is pretty good is that enough for two free tickets? I don't fly SW too often, I know they have points instead of miles never really knew how many points are needed for a free flight. I got the Delta Skymiles card when I was booking the flight on Delta.com (I wanted only wanted non stop to SLC since the times allow you to ride day of arrival and departure) and they gave me a $100 credit for the airfare which lowered it to $250, and you get zone 2 boarding and free checked bags for your entire party, plus 30,000 miles. They also waive the yearly fee the first year so card doesn't cost anything up front.
  3. Anyone follow these guys on FB, I have been reading their predictions for a while and they have been really accurate... Calling for a good possibility of snow Wed-Thursday this week. http://www.facebook.com/Lehighvalleyweatherpatrol
  4. If you shared it with someone else you wouldn't have a problem as there is no way to identify who actually purchased the card...
  5. Gore is a nice addition, would have been sweet if both Gore and Platekill were on.. Got mine in the mail today as well, now if I could only just use it....
  6. If you are looking for an awesome all mountain boot I recommend checking out thritytwo.... I have a pair of the lashed boots and they are awesome, no heel lift, comfortable, light, warm and perfect balance between flex/stiffness... I think they retail around $150 but you can find some as low as $100 if you snag last years model and in my opinion worth every penny. I also like the fact that thritytwo is exclusively a boot company as that is their sole focus making boots.
  7. Whiteface is saying over a foot of fresh on the mountain according to FB. I believe they open Friday....
  8. I did alright on the flight, I booked Delta non stop from PHL. Ticket cost was $350 but I saved $100 off by applying and paying for it with a American Express Delta Skymiles card and give you 30,000 bonus miles as long as you spend $500 on it within 5 months or something which is enough miles for a free ticket next trip... Something to think about. I am not too familiar with lodging options since I stay with my brother in Cottonwood Heights, but depending on what want to do you can find affordable options in either Cottonwood Heights, or Sandy which are both perfect locations for hitting the 4 main resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons and have extended stays, residence inn's etc.. If you stay in Downtown SLC you are adding about another 15-20 mins onto your drive to the resorts each day. When my dad goes out there to visit he stays at the Candlewood Suites on Fort Union which is pretty cheap and not a dump.
  9. I love Powder Mountain been there a few times. Yea its not snowbird (in terms of terrain) but that is also part of what makes it awesome is that its a low key no frills area. I have a blast there, you can ride fresh tracks all day when it there hasn't been new snow for days I had a great time in Powder Country.
  10. Yea, heard 9900 is where the best riding is to be found. Did you do a little hiking while you where there? I don't know that it is inferior personally, I have just been told that you wouldn't want to not hit a Big or Little Cottonwood resort to go to Canyons if its a first trip to UT. I have been to all LCC/BCC resorts minus Alta and for that kind of deal it makes it worth checking out once for myself. Anywhere in Utah is awesome compared to East Coast riding so I don't view it as a loss.
  11. So my brother tells me canyons has a deal where you get two lift tickets two burgers and two beers for somewhere around $109..... Guess maybe I will give Canyons a go this trip.
  12. Just booked my flight to SLC March 7-13th. Probably going to do Pow Mow, Snowbasin, Solitude, Snowbird, and probably hit Brighton the morning I get in and possibly again for a night session. I haven't personally been to Canyons so I can't really speak from experience (wouldn't mind hearing others opinion on that resort), but from everything I have heard from friends in SLC, it isn't really worth going there in place of any of LCC/BCCC resorts. It is lower elevation, and I am told gets less snow than BCC/LCC areas once again not speaking from experience just relaying what I have been told...

  14. One of my buddies at work sent me this link. Thought I would pass it along seems like a pretty good deal if anyone wants to hit up some different hills. Oh, and the deal is valid for both mid week and weekend. For $99 you get one lift ticket to Plattekill, Greek Peak, JF/BB, Sno, Camelback, Shawnee, Mountain Creek, and Sawmill http://wnep.upickem.net/engine/Splash.aspx?contestid=44331
  15. Let me clarify by saying I just think its being a bit dickish to discount others by saying they couldn't put skins on and projecting oneself as an expert and then basically agreeing to what was said over and over in this thread. That's all. Johnny Law- I agree with you 100% man, you can have all the formal training in the world and make good decisions and yet still get taken for a ride...you never know. Still doesn't change the fact that we are all looking at this dude's judgement as possibly being poor and it doesn't take an expert to see that..
  16. Hey man, I know I am a new guy around this board, but its kind of funny how you diss everyone for not being as experienced as you, yet you agree in the point everyone is making in that it is CURIOUS how someone who was professional was riding back country conditions without proper safety gear. Even though in this case avy gear would not have affected the outcome. Timeless also poses a good question in that would a helmet have made a difference, and I think that is a good point. None of us here are claiming to be avalanche experts man, but it also doesn't take an expert to question judgement, preparedness and I think we can all agree on that. As much as everyone is hatin' on GSS's opinion he does have a point even if he is a little too strongly wording it and even if you don't agree with him. The guy has a family he left behind and that really sucks, did he really have to ride the that chute knowing the conditions. Not trying to start an internet battle with you at all, just saying you don't need to dismiss the opinions of people in this thread because you deem them less expereinced, it doesn't take a lot of experience to see that someone was not taking proper safety precautions. I agree with you in that at the end of the day Jamie Pierre is dead and that stinks for his family....
  17. I know it wasn't big compared to other slides but the width is pretty impressive if you were trying to descend and got caught in that there would be no where to go. I think it is strange that also that they wouldn't have noticed that slide, I find it hard to believe they didn't. Also, it definitely would have seemed obvious to see problems in the snow pack... I am no expert by any means, but to me its sad because it seems as if I might have been avoidable...... Don't want to knock the dude because I am sure he didn't intend on dying, but definitely a sobering lesson to be careful in the bc.
  18. Utah Avalanche Center updated the report and added photos... The first avalanche is one they triggered but were not caught in, and the other two photos show the chute Pierre was dragged through, pretty intense. That first slide is pretty dam big. http://utahavalanchecenter.org/accident_gad_valley_11132011
  19. Sucks that this guy died RIP man... there were quite a few slides going off in LCC yesterday from what I heard from my brother out there.... here is the accident report if anyone cares to read it. http://utahavalanchecenter.org/accident_gad_valley_11132011
  20. Agreed man. Pow Mow is definitely worth the trip personally one of my favorite places to ride.
  21. Utah typically has a lot of storms pass through in March, and as stated no brainer in terms of variety of offerings within 1 hour or less drive... I am heading out myself in March
  22. That is what I figured, seems like clear lens would be a waste of money when the HI yellow could serve two purposes night, and days with flat light
  23. Just picked up some Oakley A frames... Anyone on here have Hi intensity yellow lens? I want to pick these up as a second lens and I am curious how good they work at night, I know they are great for flat/low light and I assuming they would be decent at night too.
