I guess free lodging makes the extra miles make sense. Enjoy. If you do come, I think it might be (depending on route and weather) about 4.5 hours from Sandpoint to Whitefish. The normal route might be sort of "fun" in a snow storm. I'd skip it if it's snowing out.

Oops, just thought of a third Epic guy, from Idaho. Spent so much time with him I forgot I met him on Epic.

Well, at this time of year she's horseback riding and doing shows. I think she was still a ski patroller somewhere last winter.

I've guided/skied with two Epic members and one PASR member so far. Can't remember their states. And had a visit from skimom, but that was in summer.

According to my StreetAtlas program, there's no "keep driving" to get here. It's closer to where he's going to be than Schweitzer is. He'll pass the exit as he goes to Schweitzer. That's why I don't understand the interest.

We do have more tree skiing than bowl skiing. There is Ptarmigan Bowl for more subdued bowl skiing, and then the "bowl" of East Bowl is treed. And Hellroaring Basin is not for the timid skier unless you stick to Hellfire. Most of the open areas there end up in tighter trees towards the bottom. Well, after studying owls all summer again in Oregon and being attacked by one and spending every night out in the middle of a forest all alone, she's back for the next 12 months saving money to learn some other career. Currently working part time as an office manager for an OT here in town. I have no idea how much time she'll have to ski recreationally, but I don't think she'll be racing this winter like she did last winter due to the job in town. We'll see. She did race last winter.

Siblet is going to be a race coach at the mountain this year. I'm so happy for her. (She's got another job, too, for the winter but this one is "cooler" in my opinion.)

I have to ask...why would you put Schweitzer before my ski area? Schweitzer's 80 miles further, the vertical drop has us beat by 80 feet, but we have more acreage and the summit is higher by 400 feet so our snow stays better. We both have fog and snowghosts. So, why did you pick Schweitzer? Schweitzer: Whitefish:

You are making a HUGE assumption about the reliability of those maps. Maps like that for our house show markedly different altitudes from measurements taken both with an altimeter and three different GPS units. Over 100 feet off. Those maps don't take into account minor bumps on a ridge very well, for instance. They only look at the "big picture". I also notice that NONE of the PA mountains are "verified". See other sections of the country for the check marks next to the listing.

I always find my quads in more pain on slopes with consistent pitches and few turns because of the lack of variety. Hellfire's not one of those.

Big problem. My two contenders for "worst" are down in the best. Oops, make that three. No, four. What, are you kidding me? The four most irritating sites are listed under what you think are the BEST? I'm not even going to dignify this poll by a response. If a site gives me a headache just looking at it, I leave. I want information, easily found. End of story.
