If gas prices remain where they are at for winter it is going to be a slow season on the slopes this winter. -
Free lift tic from MC with $25. donation

I usually get a free pass in the mail from Intrawest every year and it does not have restrictions. Usually Mountain Creek stuff has no restrictions. They have a link on their website now. http://www.mountaincreek.com/hurricane.htm It seems like a good deal, I was sending money anyway before I got the e-mail this morning. Hopefully more mountains will participate in something like this. -

Hopefully MC's plan will get some people to donate that usually don't donate anything. Give something = get something, sometimes causes people to do something. -

The check is made out directly to the Red Cross so its not like it comes from MC's bank account. You write the check on your bank account and they forward the check to the Red Cross. Even if they are able to write it off what they give away they still have to make up costs to turn a profit at end of year or end up with a loss. Its one less ticket they would sell during the season. I am donating $25. to Red Cross through MC and then the rest of what I am giving through my Union at work. -
See e-mail I got this morning from Intrawest/Mountain Creek: Dear Friend, Unprecedented tragedy requires unprecedented actions. We at Mountain Creek are deeply saddened by the devastating losses caused by Hurricane Katrina. Like many of you, we've felt helpless to combat the massive destruction and despair, yet wondered what we can do to help. So we hope you will forgive this intrusion, and join with us in helping to make a difference in the lives of the thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina. Mountain Creek will offer a free 2005-2006 lift ticket to anyone who donates $25 or more to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund through the resort by Friday, September 16, 2005. In order to take part in this fundraiser, you are asked to bring checks, payable to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Effort, to the resort's Human Resources office (located in the Cobblestone Village adjacent to the main parking lot at Vernon Base) during regular business hours Monday - Friday, or mail a check to Shannon McSweeney, Mountain Creek, 200 Route 94, Vernon, NJ 07462, and the free lift ticket vouchers will be sent via return mail. If you are unable to make a donation of $25, but would like to contribute to the cause please call the Red Cross directly at 1-800-HELP-NOW. Thank you, Your friends at Mountain Creek

Any more rumors of improvements to Camelback's terrain parks this year? I hope they put some good stuff in there so I can gets some good photos this winter.
-
Yep, not just a 1 screw loose, like the 4 base plates screws on each side, plus screws on the straps. Ya think some would know better. Then I had to go do some other stuff before I went home. Will be back next Tuesday and Friday afternoon night.
-
It would be nice to stay open longer, maybe they can shut down night skiing and just do days Friday through Sunday, when they get the most business. From the weather forecast the snow is not going away anytime soon, so hopefully they could at least do weekends until its gone.
-
Was up yesterday and it pretty much snowed all day while raining back home. Made 1st tracks on a lot of trails, the board floating over fresh powder was real sweet.
-
I was hoping that one of the mountains would try for april 3rd, even if it was just weekends. It seems that it will be cold enough long enough to do that. The only thing the closings will do is force me up north to Hunter, Killington, Mount Snow or something. (not like that is a bad thing)

New cost efficient snow making system for CB
mtnbiker99x replied to Margaritaville Skier's topic in Camelback
Yeah, today sucked but tomorrow should be better once its groomed again. Looks like they tried grooming today but made it worse and the winds kicked up to 70 mph at the top. Should be all good tomorrow. -
Before last winter they did a major overhaul of snowmaking pumps, and that was big money. Now they have more water than air to make snow. So the next project they need to do is either need to bring on more air or invest in airless/fan type snowmaking equipment. Its a big decision and takes a lot of ticket sales to get your money back. Some interesting links on snowmaking equipment, and you will see some of this stuff at CB in different locations. http://www.snowmakers.com/smi_fanproducts.html http://www.ratnik.com/snowmaking.html http://www.snowmax.com/main.htm http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blsnow.htm

I was a pass holder at MC up till last year. Mountain Creek's passes are cheaper but the place is a ZOO every time I go. Plus the urin smell in the tents (main lodge) is dusgusting and a health hazzard....come on the lodge they are trying to build should have been up years ago after the 1st one burned down. If you want rude NY people you'll have more than your fill at MC, its worse there than CB because its closer to the city. The park at MC is the best in the area but even though CB park needs major improvements the place is not that bad. I'll put up with the crappy park.

Maybe if I hit up Stratton before the end of the year I can get some magazine quality stuff, or someone on a rail in an off mountain location.

I watch the CB board a couple times a week and kind of shocked how much stuff they let fly on there lately, compared to last year when this board started and the events leading up to this message board. When this board was therealcb message board it seemed they were all worried and stuff, now posts on the CB message board are worse than here. Maybe they stopped monitoring and censuring their message board. If anyone was up at CB today the conditions were great. It was busier than normal for mid-week but was manageable and quite nice. I'll be up again tomorrow and should be sweet with snow in the forecast.
-
You should have nice conditions with 3 to 6 of new stuff they are predicting tonight and monday. But, looking at the maps the second one if it develops on thurs/fri will be real sweet from the accuweather page: The storm this weekend is our primary focus, but more trouble may be brewing for next week. The jet stream will remain split with one branch transporting cold air down from the north; the other bringing mild, moist air up from the south. The resulting conflict could trigger another big storm somewhere in the eastern part of the country during the second half of next week. Lets hope Eastern PA!

I was up last night and the conditions were not that bad for the amount of rain and warm weather earlier in the week. Snow guns were on Asp/Upper Cleo during the day, and they were putting some down on Nile Mile and other areas when I was leaving at night. With a big storm in forcast for early this week things should be good this week, will probably be crowded but nice conditions...hopefully. As of right now the storm is 3-6 with the 6" for the Poconos.... I'll be up Wed/Thurs and if not too busy I might try taking some more photos.

It sucks you have to lock your stuff to keep things like that from happening. I never let my board out of my site without locking. Too many skis/boards getting stolen and the only chance you have is to lock it up with a quality lock.

I can't help ya with the beefcake photos but I can help ya with some photos of hot chicks. When I used to work for the Trentonian in 98 I did Page 6 photos and covered the MTV house at Seaside.......... Hot girls in ski patrol jackets at Camelbeach....oh man....

Thanks for all the compliments. I'll have some more photos shortly but probably not many until I get my mountain back on the 28th (President's Week)
-
I went to Belleayre 2 years ago presidents weekend and it was a disaster, I'll never go again on a weekend like that. The year before that I was at Killington that weekend Killington was crowded but no one was at Pico. Last year I went to CB and it was real busy but tolerable. I would say if your going to the Poconos CB is the place. Out of the area its a crap shoot, if you go to Vermont head to Pico on a weekend like this. Actually all next week will be busy because a lot of schools are off for a winter/presidents week break. So none of us will get their mountain back until the 28th.

Wax them yourself with a temperature specific wax that you use for the temperature of the snow. When you bring your stuff in for a tune they usually use an all-temp wax. I use Toko, Swix or Bluebird iron-on type waxes. Its pretty easy to do and there are plenty of guides on the Internet to show you how.
