skidude Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 On-Mountain Improvements for the Season:In less than a week, our newest toy arrives at Camelback: The brand-new Camoplast BR350 winchcat! This state-of-the-art groomer will allow us to groom any trail uphill, leading to a smoother skiing surface, even on the steepest of slopes. Our grooming crew will be able to take more time grooming the steeps, leading to more-even, treeline-to-treeline snow coverage. And we?ll be able to maintain bumps on some of the trails, bringing a new dimension to skiing at Camelback. Winchcat grooming makes it all possible, and Camelback is the only mountain in the area to offer it. In the terrain parks, riders and freestyle skiers can look forward to nine new rails of differing shapes and sizes. And of course, our Park Crew and terrain-park-specific grooming equipment will be back to keep things in shape. Hmm hopefully they don't let rocket bump up....
ThinkSnow Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 On most occassions, PA bumps = big icy ruts, no?
skidude Posted October 13, 2005 Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 Idk....it depends if the remember to turn on there million dollar imporved snowmaking system from last year....
ThinkSnow Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 That would cost money... guns don't get turned on after mid-january unless absolutely necessary...
skidude Posted October 13, 2005 Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 That would cost money... guns don't get turned on after mid-january unless absolutely necessary... Winchcats cost money too...Maybe the new owner just wants to play

Papasteeze Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Steeze will be training on bumps this year getting ready for the next snow comp in KIllington. 9 new rails!! That sounds like a giant leap forward. I'm liking the sound of things..
Luke Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 I'm just wondering, where are they gonna fit nine new rails? Unless they get rid of the old ones...
Glenn Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 BUMPS Was there really anything they couldn't groom without the wenchcat? I'm certainly no expert on grooming but it was my understanding that CB's pitches were mild enough you could drive a regular groomer over everything. Hence, 100% groomed trails. 9 new rails! Sounds like things may big time at CB. Then again maybe it's all marketing hype. Time will tell.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I know a lot of the mountains up north use one to start bump runs...Insted of just blowing a lot of snow, and getting bumps, the drive there groomer over them a certain way, making bigger bumps Not sure about this either, but maybe there spring time grooming won't suck as much if they groom uphill insted of down (not sure why, but we can hope)
skierboi Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 they should just use haybales and have snow cover them
sibhusky Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 I think one reason Hump and Rocket were just about always poorly groomed was those little steep bits near the top.
skierboi Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 they say that they have a new groomer to fix that now
LineSki Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 wow nine new rails, this makes me very excited. And fitting them wont be a problem, they could always just do what big boulder does. Have two seperate parks, a rail park and jump park. If not then the park will have no flow what so ever.
romemadman Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 do the winches really help pull the grommer up the slope or make it go straight do they connect one end to a metal pole ?? also cb grooms up and down the cats slide down the slope backwards soemtimes even at cb
