I don't fear the new hotel...

Some recent reports re other Pocono resorts have given me a new outlook on the proposed 400+ room hotel & water park. It seems like the casino rules have been "modified" to allow "guest only slots" for established resorts. I was worried about the additional snow sport activity consumers that would be crowding the slopes; now I'm hoping that they'll all stay inside & loose their money :nana

Maybe with the hotel, they'll push for a longer season. Not too many rooms booked during the mud season but an extended ski season could keep people making reservations into late March and early April. Just a thought.

Thats about as wishful thinking as them building and maintaining a quality park worth a lift ticket comparitively to other hills around here.

You just can't resist can you. This shouldn't concern you anyway papa since you have voiced your displeasure over and over. One can only assume that since you are so displeased with cb you will not be returning, so you dont have to concern yourself with the hotel, length of the season, or anything cb for that matter. Am i right?

Wrong again, because you must know something that I don't and that CB will have a park worthy of a lift ticket comparitively to other hills in our area.

AM I CORRECT?

According to the reg. it sounds like any potential applications for class 3 license need to already have 275 rooms available at time of application.

Stay in a pricey hotel room just for pre-programmed payout slot machines? Are people really that stupid? CB going for the compulsive gambler niche, I suppose.

I wouldn't put it past some of the guests at CB...Or many of the guests there.

Seven Springs tried to get some slots put in, but it didn't work out for them because the owner also owns part of a minor league baseball team.

I wonder if any other ski resort is looking into slots?

Seven Springs was, but they pulled the application.

This might be a good idea. It was always my contention that Shawnee would open (if they could) with 1 or two slopes with crappy conditions at Thanksgiving to satisfy those that held time-shares!

Yes. I think that slots and other non ski attractions will definitely bring more people, especially mixed groups(skiers and non skiers) to CB. Think about it... you can board or ski, hit the spa, tube with the kids, shop if you don't want to be on the snow, hit the slots or have a fancy dinner all in one place. What's not to like about that when you are on vacation? Add in the fact that the rooms/ hotel will be way more upscale and closer to the mountain than pretty much every hotel in the Poconos and you have exactly what people are looking for. Besides superior skiing, which doesn't matter to a lot of people, what other Pocono mountain can rival that? And please, please do not bring up the Blue Mt. Drive. We're not going there thanks. I'm glad quite frankly. More families at CB = less families at the mountains I do like to go to.

I'm not sure of any numbers. Lets say the hotel has 400 rooms, with 400 families. I bet most of them either already skied at Camelback. I don't think it would make any noticable difference to other areas. Nor am I very worried about CB being more crowded because of the hotel. I just don't see that being a huge issue. Average weekend might have 800-1000 people at the hotel, and with increased numbers of non skiers likely to go (spa/waterpark), maybe half will end up skiing. An extra 500 people a day isn't really a noticeable difference.

I guess everyone will see what happens, but I'm guessing the place that notices it the most in the beginning is Great Wolf. As far as I can tell, its going to be roughly the same amount of money, for the same amount of attractions, but this one will be right on the mountain.

Like I said, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few seasons.

IDK, 400 rooms ~1200 people. On days where there are already no parking spots, an extra 1200 people with slopeside access would be a drag. Especially since those who are attracted to the "extras" are not as likely to be facile skiers.

I won't even start with the indirect costs of gambling...

Shop?

Throw money in a one arm bandit?

Eat $30 ravioli?

IDK, 'Kitten, that sounds like the worst vacation ever.

I agree with skimom; it's gonna be crowded with those "snow sport activity consumers" who more than likely don't know what they're doing. I think it'll be a vacation drawing those who don't frequently ski or ride. And, I don't think it's really "too soon" to start considering what other options might be. If only Elk were 20 minutes closer, I know what I'd do.

Why?

First off, the tubing park is much smaller. Secondly, I think that a lot of the people staying there will be families with pretty small children. Maybe mommy wants to go tubing with the 4 year old, while dad skis with the 10 year old...But lets say at capacity (ehh ~1,200 people I'm guessing) half goes skiing, and half goes tubing (forgetting all other activities like shopping, etc). 600 more people in the tubing park is much more noticeable than 600 people skiing.

Who knows what will happen tho. We'll see in 2009 I guess.

Maybe CB doesent feel the need to have their mountain infultrated with park rats...ever thought of that? I think they are going for a different type of crowd...especially with the new hotel. As far as free ski areas go, CB is about as good as it gets in the poconos. It is huge compared to pretty much everything else in NEPA, and there is a nice variation of all different types of terrain. My only gripe with CB is that their rangers always seem to have a stick up their asses, but ski patrollers pretty much everywhere in the poconos are getting closer and closer every year to the way ther rangers are at CB (with the exception of jack frost, but im sure that will change as well as soon as they lose a big lawsuit like CB has in the past).

There are plenty of mountains in the poconos with outstanding parks now, why bash on the ones that choose to keep more of a traditional ski area? Dont like it, dont go; no one is forcing you to.

anyway, enough rambling...
