  1. I like to start on Lazy Mile for the most part when its empty. When that starts getting crowded, I move to Challenge and Razors. When the power-wedgers get onto those in full force, I head for Barneys. I find that Challenge and Razors get crowded a little later, I guess it takes some people time to work up the courage to power-wedge down them. Doing things in that order lets me extend my day when its crowded an extra hour or so... (OK so that means bailing at 11:30 instead of 10:30)
  2. I guess I figure $50 for a day pass...or $500-something for a season pass is more than enough money for them. Charging for parking or whatnot is just nickel-and-diming customers. I think charging for parking at Dorney is lame too. But then again, as faras I know, most people dont go to Dorney every weekend, or more than 3 times a week. Some of us got a season pass because we want to ski more than twice a season...
  3. Unless JFBB and Camelback do it too, Blue will close. Nobody is going to pay for parking when there are other ski areas around that dont charge. And if that happens (and its not free for passholders) then I am out...
  4. Oh but the VIP line makes this so much more bearable! I wonder if its going to help with crowds this weekend though since people think VIP line applies to them even with a day ticket. When they were running the races last week at Blue and it was crowded they actually posted a guy at the VIP line and checked passes! Awesome!
  5. Who's gonna brave it? I will be there Saturday and Sunday for opening bell. Likely to ditch around 11:30 when the busses from NY start rolling in... Last year I was taking a break at the base and was sitting on a bench. Some fat lady sat on me and exclaimed in a thick Brooklyn accent "Oh I didnt see anyone there!" No appology, just the exclamation... Get ready for the moving slalom course that gets set up on Lazy Mile
  6. This is beyond stupid. If true, it would just make me take my season pass dollars elsewhere. Seriously... I would just get the more expensive pass to Elk and suffer the extra hour it takes me to get there. Skiing is expensive to begin with, and I can afford to buy a season pass - but to be nickel and dimed at the same time is a horrible way to treat customers. I do think they should install some cameras in the lodges. They know they have a problem with sticky fingers there, it would help them and all of us.
  7. If I'm still there at 2:00 I'll try to get there
  8. I'll be there Friday from open to whenever I get tired...
  9. I got there at 8 and ran Midway -> Mainstreet down to the 6-pack. I heard about the race yesterday so I knew Razors would be closed right away. Lapped Challenge 4 times or so before running a couple down Lazy. Things got crazy starting around 10 so I stayed mostly on Challenge. By 1:00 the snow on Challenge was getting scraped off so I went and found the only other uncrowded place on the mountain which seemed to be the bumps. Lift lines were getting to me and even the passholder line was taking a while. Was 45F by the time I left at 3:00. Excellent day...
  10. Spent a few hours there this afternoon. The snow was pretty much a wreck everywhere but it was fun to pretend I was skiing "off-piste" Trail of the day seemed to be Razors Edge. Had a bunch of moguls on the top and was mostly ok the rest of the way down. Crowds were huge for an afternoon so I had to stay off Crazy Mile except for two runs. I think I saw Atomic Jeff there from a lift a couple times and passing me once on Paradise. (Or was that someone else with an Obnoxious Blue coat? ) My wife got taken out on the upper part of Razors Edge by a SPORE who couldnt figure out how to handle bumps on a steep hill (Hint, Power Wedging isnt it ) Ride home ended up slow as the turnpike was snow covered from Lehigh to Quakertown.
  11. Indeed - but I still wouldnt wanna fall on it, although I trust all of mine to not go off. Even my 1911 which would be cocked and locked at all times...Another thing - wouldnt want to get it wet if you fall and get snow all over the place... Indeed. Open carry is 100% legal on foot only. A permit costs like $40 or something and is good for 5 years and takes like 2 days to get...
  12. Its hard to tell from themap - but looking at Google Maps' topo map of the area, it looks like it drops 200 feet over about 500 linear feet. This works out to about 21 degrees... rough measurement obviously... OK so its kinda flat
  13. Its fun but I stopped doing that a little while ago after nearly plowing into some guy in a power wedge trying his hardest not to die on it from below where I could see. The connector from Lazy Mile brings all sorts of crazies...
  14. Maybe I am being generous The hardest thing about Razors is the initial drop off and thats all mental. Over the lip and its just fun from there... I remember last season I looked over The Falls and thought no way...this is imposibly steep... Last week I thought it looked flat. I was even dissapointed I didnt have enough room to turn on it before it was over...
  15. Its funny how from the lift, you can see that the headwall on Razors is only about 22-23 degrees or so... But when you are standing on top of it looking down you would swear its just a straight drop off....
  16. Even if I did feel the need to carry while there (and believe me some of the riffraff at Blue makes me think about bringing one of mine) I couldnt imagine figuring out a safe way to carry it. Falling while skiing/riding is pretty much a given for everyone. Falling on a chunk of hard metal cant be much fun. Doubly no fun if it actually goes off...
  17. I would be happy if they at least stopped the people with day passes from cutting into the VIP line. But yea unless they have students, the instructors really shouldnt be cutting that line...
  18. Got there late (8:15) due to all the goobers who dont know how to drive in snow or were trying to drive the Civics on the ice... The fresh snow was a joy. I spotted Atomic Jeff blow past me on Challange as I was headed for the Falls from Lazy (Hey that blue jacket is easy to spot) and I assume a bunch of you other guys were in that crowd. I bailed at noon though due to the crowds and desire to watch the Eagles. Leaving the rest up to others to report
  19. I've already admitted that it was my bad. This is one of so few times we didn't use the lockers I could count them on one hand. I know sticky fingers happen and our skis are always checked - even for short breaks. I guess I just never thought someone would walk away with an entire bag of clothes! Meanwhile I'm blind as a bat with these dried out contacts. I'm getting a beer and hoping the little goober will have atleast enough sense to bring my glasses back - sigh. The rest of it is just stuff.
  20. An open letter to the cretin who stole my bootbag. You saw a nice bag laying around today didn't you? You noticed that it had MY name on it - but it called to you. Oooh wouldnt a new bag be nice - so you took it. You left my husband's though to be nice - wouldn't want to take too many things at once you reason. Well the jokes on you - you netted yourself a nice bag sure, but what was inside it - Lowa boots (size 10), a Hopkins sweatshirt, some work clothes, a nice Life is good T-shirt, contact case, skin lotion, goggle bag, glasses and maybe if you were lucky a tampon or two. Hope you find some of it useful. What you didn't find ... any money, a cell phone, credit cards or an iPod. I might have been dumb enough to leave my bag out (with all the other bags!!) but I'm not dumb enough to leave that stuff in there. If you would please be so damn kind ... feel free to keep the bag. Its ok, ill go back to using a grocery bag - but please turn the rest of the stuff into lost and found, PLEASE - especially the glasses!! Lovebug (Noofus' wife)
  21. Wish I could be there today. Stuck at work all day Elk is having a big demo day tomorrow. I'll be at Elk all weekend so I'll be hitting the demo day there. I need new skis desperatly...
  22. Well part of the story was they didnt install snowmaking or lights because they werent sure if they had to regrade it due to the issues mentioned above.
  23. Hah, did we ride the quad together today? I got the exact same story while riding the lift...
  24. Im willing to boot up at the lower lodge for this. I'll be there for first chair for sure I ran Paradise earlier today and there was a Red Coat standing near the entrance to Dreamweaver. Looked like he was there to keep people out of it, though I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to try to ski on the basketball-sized ice balls all over it. I asked him if they planned to have it open first thing and he said he thought so but wasnt sure...
  25. Even if they did read the forums, complaints from someone incapable of correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar would get ignored anyway.
