No, it's true. I was there on Saturday night (4-8), and there was only Main Street chair going up. That has actually been the trend with all mountains this season. Spectacular opening weekend followed up by really lousy skiing next week (bad snow, long lines). First BB, then BM. I'm actually afraid that it's gonna be CB's turn this weekend.

Because not everybody lives around the corner. And even if I did, a mere couple of hours in the morning would just whet my appetite.

OK, we'll see if you can predict snow better than crowds on opening days. If they open up lazy mile or upper main street, I'll definitely come for night skiing to BM. Lazy mile is one of those trails that even in the worst nights shines.

The terrain that Blue has opened up will not sustain skiers this weekend. Even last week by noon the Midway was completely trashed, and this redirected all cautious skiers to the Vista lift producing looong queues. Adventurous kinds still skied down the Midway, but it was a torture. Those boards are completely brainless, I feared not so much for falling as for being knocked down by some crazy kid. You may say that they're just cautious at Blue and prefer to undercommit than underdeliver, and we'll see more trails available, but I'm not buying it. Nobody forced them to list the number of trails in that FB post. They could've just said that they'll open up for skiing.

Blue has stopped snowmaking at the moment, but at CB it's still pouring on several webcams. I think it's gonna be a nobrainer this weekend. I very much like seeing fresh snow blown for skiing at CB than snowtubing at BM.

Did you really pay $600 for your superpass, or were they cheaper last year?

This sucks big deal. Even with me not having anything to do this weekend, it's getting boring to ski the same stuff yet another week with gradually increasing crowds. Maybe JFBB will open a 3rd trail, heh.

I've seen a few guys on fully rockered skis while waiting for a lift. It looked like the area of contact hardly extended beyond the bindings. How does it feel to ski slow speed or straight on such skis? I also saw a guy, perhaps on park skis, perhaps on fully rockered ones on Midway last weekend skiing it like a border. He got to the middle, then turned sideways, almost backward, then again forward. And it wasn't that hard braking skidding turn, it was done with no effort, like fooling around.

Nice collection. And good for me, since so you should know how they ski in comparison... Do you notice in general that fatter skis have worse edge grip than SL skis? I skied my 70mm back to back with two other wider pairs (still a far cry from 115mm) once and was unpleasantly surprised by how they constantly wanted to wander off to the side from underneath me. And I knew for sure that they were quite sharp and with decent 0.5/3 bevels... Yeah, they were skiable, but in a more gentle, cautious way. It took many runs to find the right balance of force to maintain control, and it made my legs hurt a lot in the process. I simply could never learn to fully trust them. IDK whether they were just bad pairs or that's a general rule, the wider the ski, the less the edge grip. What do you think?

How? Isn't the rocker just a gimmick to make skis float better and reduce edge contact length? Yeah, it helps to turn by making it easier to skid the skis. How do you maneuver with a 30m radius ski on a busy slope?

I have to ask... Do you keep a pair of powder skis stashed just for occasions like that, or do you always ski them? I would drown if I was on mine, and yet I can't find a reason to have something wider because it's hardpack 99% of the time.

Well, aside from the dangers of this being a kickstarter project (and I've seen some crazy stuff on kickstarter like a laser shaver), I don't think it's going to be "set it and forget it" kind of a tune. They admit it themselves that a periodic base grind will be needed to "to establish an appropriate structure for specific snow conditions and temperatures while removing “hair” from abraded bases". Sounds like periodic waxing is going to be replaced with a periodic base grind.

I don't see anything going on in the Valley. Not a single gun working. So much for "our one of a kind automated system will take every opportunity of blowing snow".

Today was equally good here. Having skied BM and CB back-to-back on two consecutive days, I've enjoyed CB much-much better. The trail may be one, but it's long and empty. And the gradient and width of the Honeymoon part is just right for some crazy carving. Very uniform, fast and no need to brake for beginners and boarders all the time. An express with no line is hard to beat too. BM on the other hand yesterday surprised with long lines at the Vista lift, awfully scraped and bumpy Midway, equally crazy snowboarders buzzing around and dropping in front of you like flies. As much as I was displeased yesterday, I got happy today. On the last ride up lift attendant was saying: "see you next friday", which I guess means that CB will reopen by then. Cool.

I second that! Pics please, for I need to decide whether to go to CB tomorrow or just stay home. BM was pretty sick today afternoon.

With all the sales going on right now, and a possibility of loading multiple peak and off-peak tickets onto ones card, I have a question... And ironically, BM reps themselves can't answer it, so I'm kind of hoping of hearing here from someone with first-hand experience. Suppose, I have three kinds of tickets on the same card: peak, off peak and night tickets. Is the BM's system smart enough to always pick the most appropriate ticket for the time when I start skiing on a particular day or not? I.e. can I be sure that if I come on Monday it won't use a peak ticket from my account, and if I come after 4pm, it won't use a whole day or 8-hr ticket, and instead will grab a night ticket?

Do you guys stone grind your skis? Where? I have edges protruding over base surface a little, and want to get it fixed.
