Stevo Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Does anyone know of any abandoned ski areas in PA? Names, Addresses? I'm trying to find some good picture-taking spots.

skifreak Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Apple Hill is one located just outside of Allentown.
syd harvey Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) Right between Jack Frost and Big Boulder.....there is Split Rock, granted it never was a big area, still should be a ok place for some pix... Edited January 7, 2007 by syd harvey
Tyler Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 what kind of pictures are you looking to take stevo? old lift wheels and stuff or cut trails, or veiws from the top of the hill?
method9455 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Oh man I remember Split Rock, learning to ski there with their T-Bar. And Craigmeur in NJ, both now gone.

Any pictures. Not pictures so much, but just to hike around and check things out how they were years ago. The name i was trying to remember i just found on the last page you sent- mount aire lodge- i couldn't remember the name.
johnnypowder Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 What about Chadd's Peak down off of Route 1 in Chadd's Ford? on the way to Brandywine. Don't know if there is still any reminants or if they built homes on the hill...

The name i was trying to remember i just found on the last page you sent- mount aire lodge- i couldn't remember the name. Mt. Aire is probably not the best place to hike, as they're building a casino on the site. You can see most of the ski hill from Woodland Road off of 611.
ryan944299 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 These abandoned mountains actually gave me a good idea.... are any of these mountains still somewhat untouched with trails that are still ski/snowboardable? Say we get a storm that dumps enough snow to give a good enough base to ride on, would any of these mountains be ridable? Would beat going to a active mountain and have to deal with the crowds. Kinda like poaching runs but its not really poaching if the place is closed.
skifreak Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Don't try it at Apple Hill. They reguarly police it when it snows, and they prosecute trespassers.
Papasteeze Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 What about Chadd's Peak down off of Route 1 in Chadd's Ford? on the way to Brandywine.Don't know if there is still any reminants or if they built homes on the hill... its now full with town homes. I was there once!!
Barb Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Oh man I remember Split Rock, learning to ski there with their T-Bar. And Craigmeur in NJ, both now gone. I learned how to ski there too.

skifreak Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Well you don't really deal with the cops. The land developer that owns it has his people out there hidden with snow mobiles to catch trespassers.
ShadyTJ Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 What about Chadd's Peak down off of Route 1 in Chadd's Ford? on the way to Brandywine.Don't know if there is still any reminants or if they built homes on the hill... I was there a few years ago hiking around trying to figure out the layout. It looked like a lift base and some other junk laying around. Lots of new houses in the area so I would say no go.
stever2003 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Of all the areas on the DCSki link, Ski Snow Peak seemed like the best option for a new ski area. Anyone got a ton of expendable cash? http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=18

Anyone got a ton of expendable cash? http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=18 I went there once in 90 I think when I was a lift Op at Roundtop. The grooming was not just bad but BAD! We made about ten runs and left with are knees still working and ACL's in place. The Mt. would have some nice drops and steeps at the top for sure. Bruce
Tyler Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) it wouldve had the highest vert in pa if it was ever finished...something like 1300 or 1400 ft i think Edited January 12, 2007 by Oakley21
splooshie Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 i think we should all put 2000$ in an buy an abandond ski hill.
poconoceancity Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 i think we should all put 2000$ in an buy an abandond ski hill. It would take much more than that. The average member of this MB is under 20 with no real income or borrowing power.
Icecoast Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 i have borrowing power and know a few possible investors if anyone is interested in this. its not in pa though, but for 1.75 million, with lifts and snowmaking systems it seems a steal. just too small to compete with nieghboring resorts. http://www.vermont-home.com/ski.htm

Ah, so it's still not sold. Bummer. Someoneone could take that place, turn it into 100% park, and turn profits in a heartbeat.
skifreak Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I can't believe it still hasn't sold.
