  1. if i remember, i will take a pic of the bases of my skis this weekend, show ya what that rail session last friday did. i dont know why you would go out and buy another pair of skis just for crappy conditions though, just use an old pair you already have.

    Best tune-up?

you can save yourself a lot of money in the long run if you learn to do it yourself. its not very hrad, maybe www.swix.com might have something of a tutorial, or reliable racing?
  3. yeah i got raped. so did everyone else though too. that box was haggard. it kept falling apart, but this will happen when its held together by duct tape.
  4. the only brand of skis i have ever ripped on is atomic, and the cheap salomon rental skis. i've skiied both, and thought they skiied like crap, and i worked in blue's rental shop before and have seen how those skis fall apart. i've seen people come back with heel peices ripped out of the ski. everyone on this board takes me way to seriously, its called sarcasm. never once did i say i was an expert. i consider myself to be knowledgeable, but not an expert. i am just stating my opinion on the skis. and as far as websites selling things cheaper, its not a physical store in some cases, which lets them get around that. also, different types of shops have different minimum prices; i.e mtn shops, city shops, online shops. that is part of the reason you see differences in prices. i am guessing that the loft would be considered a mountain shop because of thier proximity to camelback. also, i haven't been up there this year so i dont know what they are charging for things. some stuff we sell, yes, it is overpriced. most of the time, no, its right where any other reputable shop would be selling it for. and about skiing in mid march, i skiied the same pair of skis all year last year, for everything, from skiing at blue, to killington in late march, my front yard, philly, and encountered all sorts of conditions. until i used those skis last friday night for an early season rail session, the bases were in perfect working order.
  5. unless blue mountain decides to listen to us finally, bear creek will have a better park, hands down
  6. have fun skiing the verse 5s. also have fun ripping your bindings out of them if you take a good fall.
  7. depends if they get their act together and start the freeriders program for skiing or not. i would much rather just go ski, but i need a job, so it might as well be teaching kids how to huck their meat right?
  8. ahhh olin mark iv's such a classic. in case anyone didnt know, they rereleased them. its the old k2 enemy with the classic mark iv graphic on em. hotness
  9. i think craige is right. anyone who considers themselves a true skier should be able to do a 360. same goes the other way though. all the park kids on here, when your mountain's race team is practicing, go ask the coach if you can try a run through the gates, or do a skiercross race or something. you're not truely a skier until you have experience in all aspects of the sport. after t his season i can finally consider myself well rounded, i will be going out to colorado over spring break, skiing real powder for the first time.
  10. i will be in attendance. word on the street (and roundtop's website) is that it will be a downkink box. what do ya think craige? 270 hurricane that beast? i'll probably get eatin a live like i did at the boulder slopestyle haha
  11. ski i am not goofing, i personally hate atomic products. i have skiied them, and thought they were inferior to other stuff on the market.
  12. ski999, i am saying atomics are not good skis because of how they are constructed, not simply because they cost less to make. that and atomic's bindings, which they make you put on nearly all their skis, are the least safe binding on the market according to industry tests. and a foam core ski is inherently inferior to a wood core ski if for no other reason than durability alone. wood just lasts longer, simple as that. and the ski magazine thing, ever notice how its always the same few companies at the top? certain companies pay off the magazines to get good reviews. look through the mag, the companies that have the highest reviews often have the most ads in there as well... coincidence? and the ski garauntee, i think its a pretty decent incentive to buy skis from us too
  13. the return of ed makes me want to gouge out my eye with a rusty spoon. the man has no idea how to build anything. anyone go to blue's big air last year? worst jump i have ever hit in my life, he refused to even rake the lip and landing for us and proceeded to drive his snowmobile back and forth over the inrun so we had a nice little rythm section coming into a 50-6 foot gap. ed should have stayed out of the game
  14. the only other kid at blue rockin PE's that can ski. he came up to boulder with us for the prelim comp and filmed. ha i know thats a bold statement but its true, the majority of kids at blue that ski PE's wish they could ski half as well as this kid
  15. ok, i work at nestors, so obviously i am going to say thats the shop to go to around here. i think i am right in saying that, and i have ski magazine to back me up. we dont overcharge on anything, except maybe shop services ($40 for a full tune, $45 for a mount is a bit much i think), everything we sell cannot go below minimum advertised price unless there is a sale. that is a contractual agreement any respectable shop makes with the companies they carry, and is a ski industry standard. a reason people find us more expensive than other shops in general is because for the most part (the loft excluded) other shops dont carry as high quality a product as we do. for example, pelican carries atomic. atomic is currently the cheapest ski on the market to produce, therefore it can be solf for less all the way down the line to the consumer. on the other end of that argument though, you get what you pay for. foam injected ski with a semi load bearing cap with a core that breaks down after 30 days on the snow, or a wood/metal laminate ski that will continue to ski the same as the day you bought it two years from now? for $50 or $100 more, i'd take the second choice. also, every boot or ski you buy from us comes with a garuantee that the boot will fit you, and the ski will perform well for you. if you find otherwise, bring the boot back in, we will work on it to make it fit or put you in a different boot, or if you find that the ski is too stiff, too soft, or otherwise not right for your type of skiing, bring it back in before the end of january and we will swap it out for another one of comparable price. so you get what you pay for.
  16. K2 is now, i believe, the second largest sporting goods manufacturer. nowhere near what volkl/tecnica/marker has, or atomic either. K2 owns shakespeare fishing rods, rawlings baseball products, as well as their own inline skate, bike, and snowboard divisions. K2's race skis are made to be more skiable than other companies, geared toward lighter skiers. they arent nearly as stiff longitudinally as a volkl, dynastar, or everyone here's beloved atomics, but since it's a metal laminate constuction (very rarely available to the general public), they are very torsionally stiff, therefore hold an edge just as well with far less effort.

    Ski Weight

a heavier ski gives you more stability, essentially. there is more mass to absorb vibration, and also more weight, which keeps the ski on the snow, so less chatter. a lighter ski is more maneuverable and livelier and snappier. thats essentially the difference. not much as far as speed or float in powder goes.
  18. i could have sworn those things are going to be selling for around 350-400. and as far as the electronics go, you dont set your din digitally, its still done with a screw driver, they just tell you whether your boot it in correctly, or if something is malfunctioning on the binding. but really, there is no need to even bother with anything atomic-made if you want equipment that lasts more than a season and still skis how it was designed to ski.
  19. craige when you say locals you mean me kev and miller right? haha you got blue's park pretty much nailed in that description, but if i have any input or power whatsoever this year, that will change. plus ed's house is dead, so maybe our comps wont suck this year
  20. i am gonna drive up there in an hour or so, i'll let everybody know whats up. and theres no reason to repaint the rails, paint on the top just gets worn off anyway
  21. did any of you go to bear creek last year? their park was hands down better than anythign else around here. i dont know why you all love blue's park so much, i rode there all the time last year cause its really close to my house, but god their park sucked balls. nothing was ever groomed right, all the rails were ride on, there were holes in every landing, yeah i could go on for a while
  22. the colored lights are from the light coming through the mist of snow, works like a prism. those crown vics with their hooked up engines top out at about 127 when the governer kicks in, so if your going 140 and have enough highway to work with, your in good shape
  23. you can actually ski for more than a minute before getting to the lift at blue, unlike pretty much everywhere in the poconos. our park sucks though unfortunately
  24. i will be on salomon 171 1080's with s912Ti bindings and 4frnt 180 MSPs with look p12ti bindings, and of course, lange boots (probably fr120)
