  1. exactly. you dont need to use the groomers for everything. tonight we uses two of my friends's snowboards for shovels to rebuild the lip on the smaller jump off to the right after the sharkfin. i didnt use a groomer for that, i did it by hand. yes, they jump was initially made with a groomer, but you dont need a groomer to do upkeep on it. the two snowboarders were getting clean 7's with grabs and i almost got my first cork 5 on that jump tonight, it was a good time.
  2. stuff just wasnt set up correctly from the start. i was told sidewinder was gonna have no ride ons. 2 of the rails are not ride on. the wall should have been built with about 5 more feet of snow under it. yes, i'm bitter. i was just up at okemo for a few days, with a foot of fresh snow and a perfectly set up park. you dont need a ton of snow to build a 2 foot high kicker in front of a rail though, so yes, blue could be doing better than they are right now.
  3. so far i've heard nothing but speculation and running your mouth, with no results. there are no new rails at blue thus far, and the flatbox doesnt count because it is the exact same as the old one, minus the rotten wood sides. you're talking about all these new rails, as is everyone else who works up there, and i have seen nothing yet. they dont even have everything out from last year.
  4. the first one is on lower sidewinder/terrain run. the second one, in march, is on raceway, and is a much faster race. the first one last year, starts off on lower sidewinder with a right hand turn then a ton of rollers through the left hand turn, a drop off burm right turn, a hip that shot you to the left, a 40 foot or so table, a set of rollers into the lower park, 20 foot table, 3 more rollers, and a banked s turn to the finish. you get moving pretty good by the bottom of lower sidewinder from if you can pump/gap the rollers right and take the hip and table correctly.
  5. you see, the key is being tall and lanky like me. that thing is low enough in the ground that i cant nut myself on it. same thing with the downkink up until a few days ago when the snow started to melt. that downkink has been severely owned this year. my brother's got 450s on locked on that thing. it disgusts me.
  6. this coming wednesday and thursday (12th,13th) there will be demos at blue mtn for free. wednesday is buckmans i think, and thursday is nestors. its a safe bet that k2, salomon, rossi, and probably dynastar will be in attendance thursday.
  7. i made it on their pics of the day and i never even saw it. if anybody saved the pic by any chance can you send it to me? that rail isnt bad now that its set up right. the drop rainbow thing is just got aweful though.
  8. yeah blue is finally catching on. sidewinder was amazing tonight. easily better than anything bear creek has served up this season. 2 perfect jumps and 2 perfectly set up rails tonight, there was some other stuff too, but i was pretty impressed so far. my brother his a disaster 450 onto the downkink, so i think its safe to say they got the lip thing somewhat figured out.
  9. i'll be doing skiercross for sure. unfortunately, i wont be around for the slopestyle, or to defend my title for the second skiercross. the skiercrosses were kind of haggard last year, especially the one on raceway. everything was packed in really tight and the jumps were not nearly long enough. fun time none the less though.
  10. go figure the racers always get the new trail. they run that place, and its starting to get mildly annoying. anyone on the inside up there who isnt part of the race program knows what i mean.
  11. ha it will probably be complaint worthy, unless management actually lets the park crew kids have their way this year. we can hope. and the only reason i am complaining is because i know they can do better than that. they didnt give the park crew kids any work yet, everything in the lower park was just built by the groomers. if they let the park crew loose, stuff will be much better.
  12. the mailbox is roughly 8 inches high. it was sitting on the ground. that is not elevated. the flatbox is about 2 and half, 3 feet high, also sitting on the ground. yes i was there, i know those rails very well, and they have both been set up much better before.
  13. i have a dark green salomon jacket with offwhite salomon pants and a black helmet and a frames. i realize the park is only one trail, but they half-assed it, as usual. look at what bear creek has set up right now and you'll see what i mean. instead of making the take off for the jump so wide, make the jump longer. the lip wasnt terrible, but you could come in to the thing half speed and still flatbottom it. the flatbox did have a landing, but it dropped off too quick. the mailbox just didnt have one at all. if they built their rails higher up, on top of a little table or something, you would have a much better lip and landing for the rails. just some simple things they could have done to make the park much better.
  14. god awful sums it up rather well. typical blue mountain fashion. a jump with no lip, the landing not nearly steep enough, the flatbox was ride on and deathly slow with no landing, and the mailbox was the same. the little roller afterwards was fun to butter on though. blue needs to get their act together ASAP.
  15. ha kmar i can 100% confirm that the old box is gone... it used to be in the burn pile, but we rescued it from an untimely death. it would be nice if they made the new one a lot longer though. any word on when there will be a park up?
  16. first night up and i already got in trouble with patrol. the season is off to a good start. we did build a few hits, one on top of switchback is decent but will probably be plowed by tomorrow if they open lazy, but lazy is full up places for natural hits. i'll be there after 6 tomorrow night (saturday)
  17. i'll be there. all day. 4FRNTs.
  18. ahh bill's a good guy. he did my custom footbeds for me, did an excellent job, but he doesnt work there that much anymore. if you are going to nestors (which i would recommend, ski magazine gave them top ski shop in the east coast last year, they've been top 10 nationwide for several years now) talk to adam or dan, they both do an excellent job as well.
  19. i can assure you that the explorers program at blue mountain is not babysitting unless the kid makes it that way. if the kid wants to ski, then they teach him or her as much as they can fit into the allotted time period. if the kid doesnt want to ski, theres not really much you can do, whether he/she is in a lesson, or with their parents, the kid just wont ski. i had kids last year that went from first time on skis to out on the mountain skiing legitimate green circles and some easier blue squares in two days. its all about making it fun for the kid so they want to learn more and get better.
  20. razors would make for a decent park, because its actually steep enough to make decent landints. lazy mile is not in most places, sidewinder isnt either. paradise just has lots of room to work with, so they could build up a lot more snow for landings. they dont have big air over falls for no reason, at least they know that by having it there, the landing is steel enough
  21. yup you need to go to the window. i would suggest putting him in the explorers program if you want him to take a lesson. i worked there last year, and its amazing how quickly some kids can pick up skiing when taught the right way. i'm not saying you dont know what your doing when it comes to teaching someone to ski, but you said you are unfamiliar with takign a kid skiing, and kids need to be taught differently than adults. it will also give you some time to go cruise around while your nephew learns how to ski with other kids his own age.
  22. razors would make a beautiful park, but god forbid they give up their precious race course, which they used to use challenge for anyway. paradise wouldnt be all that terrible either, just because its so wide and long. lots of room for options, but again, they wont give that up. so they use sidewinder, the trail that no one used to like anyway.
  23. their plans are for the 17th with 6 trails, according to dennis sr. easy out, vista, school hill, explorer hill, mainstreet and midway. no park features opening day, dennis claims they wont have enough snow to set up a rail, which is a load of crap. but they did get a c box, rainbow box, and other boxes and rails, or so he told me. if any of that info is not true, take it up with dennis at the mtn, thats what he told me when i was up there today.

    new skis

whoever got the XT, you wont be dissappointed. awesome ski for PA conditions, and still wide enough to bust through crud and softer snow late season. for the originator of this threat, 181 is real big unless your going with a park ski or something that doesnt have a ton of sidecut like a powder/big mountain ski, which the cobra is not. look for low to mid 170's if your looking for more of a carving/cruising ski. dynastar skicross 9 or a volkl 5 star sounds like they would work well for you
