  1. that flatdown box is super sticky. i tried a 270 on last time i was there and almost died. thank god that thing is too low for me to nut it.
  2. its the slowest lift in the world. its almost quicker to hike.
  3. i practically live at the place, i have 40 some days on snow this year, easily 30 of them have been at blue. and i dont really care what kmar, or anyone for that matter, thinks of my posts, whether i am complementing, complaining, or whether you think i am just being a little crybaby about it. blue's park was the best it has ever been a few weeks ago. it has the potential to be much better than that. it seems that they think, ok, we have the terrain park all set up, its good for the rest of the year. they let it go and it gets crappy. they need to realize that parks need work to stay consistantly good. i, as well as the majority of the crew i ski with, have emailed the mountain about the recent downfall of the park, and got nothing but,"I'm glad to hear you are concerned about our terrain parks. We are constantly trying to improve them." If they call what has happened lately an improvement, i dont know whats going on. so if you feel the same way as i do, information@skibluemt.com would love to receive your hate mail.
  4. thanks for backing me on this one. and what i am complaining about mostly is the fact that the park WAS good at one point this year, and has recently just gone to shit because they havent maintained it at all. Management sucks, they need to realize not everyone who rides there wants the rails to be ride on. there are those of us who know what we are doing and want to challenge ourselves, and i dont mean by making the rail a challenge just to get on. And to whoever asked me if i ever ski razors, yes, i skiied sidewinder maybe 5 times this whole weekend. the rest of my time was spent on razors, challenge, lazy, and switchback. so yes, i like to actually ski every once in a while too.
  5. when they actually had gaps onto rails, i had no problems with them. about two weeks ago, the park was excellent. the jumps had lips and they were long enough too. i guess once they had everything good they figured it didnt need any more work. flatten the trail, blow some more snow, then rebuild everything and it might be decent again, but i seriously doubt anyone in management at that mountains cares enough to make people happy anymore. i'm really fed up with that place this year. bear creek is half the size of blue, and their park kills it. their halfpipe is regularly groomed and it actually goes vert at the top. at bear, there's kids airing a good 10 feet out of the pipe. at blue, you're lucky if you can even make it to the lip without getting your ski caught in a hole in the wall. if you're not going to do upkeep on the pipe, get rid of it and throw more park features in there or something, make a decent sized hit and put a quarterpipe at the bottom. the halfpipe right now is absolutely worthless. p.s. kmar i dont mean to take this out on you personally, but as far as i know, you are the only person on this board representing blue's grooming/snowmaking staff, so you get the brunt of the complaints. if there is anything you can do to persuade management to stop living in the 80's and realize that some of the local kids at blue rip and that they dont need to cater everything at the mtn to the philadelphia/new jersey weekend warrior trash, i, as well as many other kids, would greatly appreciate it.
  6. yup, i'm gonna complain about ride on rails. and this is not the only place that i have complained to. i went to park crew as well as keith and tim in snowboard school, because they told me whenever i have a problem with the park, thats what i should do. skiing at bear during the week and then coming back up to blue this weekend was a huge disappointment. sidewinder is the most worthless excuse for a park right now. all the rails are ride on and the jumps are too short. i thought sidewinder was supposed to be the advanced park? i'm not even gonna bother making any comments on the pipe....
  7. who said the answer to what?

    Boxes

as of yesterday, that first jump was a little short for how much speed you come into it with. overshooting landings while spinning is NOT fun at all.
  9. dont pass judgement on blue at night. ski it during the day and you will get a whole different idea of the place. the park was perfect today. nice sized table up top, a step up, a medium table, the kink rail is set up perfectly, a step down, then the c rail in the top park, and the first jump in the lower park has an option for bigger or smaller jump now, then the flatbox, then mailbox, then the double barrel rainbow or up flat box. everything was set up excellent today, must better than i have seen anything at bear this year except the wallride. that and sidewinder is a fun trail for a park because you get some regular skiing in on it too.

    Boxes

sticky? we had a good crew of 15 or so hiking that thing today, totally killing it. tailbutters and nosebutters on, 270s, disaster 270s and 450s, all sorts of stuff. you just need to come at it with speed and its not bad. its a little bit wide for my liking though, it would be nice if it was narrower so it was a little harder.

    Boxes

the new downkink (up-flat) box is a ton of fun. again, problem getting speed if you hit other stuff in the park though.
  12. you tuck, thats how you get speed for it. start at the rollers and come straight into it. you'll clear it, unless you have to pull off because of people standing right after the lip. but thats typical blue, happened about 37 times yesterday. step up is fun for sure though.
  13. if it wont work, i would love to know why. unless they changed something somehow this year, which it doesnt look like they did, it should work. i know kids who have done it and never had any problems.
  14. its funny that you say it wont work. its been done. and it does work. scan the pass into a computer, change the picture and the name and you're golden, its not hard. as long as you have the tools and the knowhow its not that hard to do. the hologram this year would be even easier to copy than years past, it used to be inlayed in the plastic sleeve they laminate the pass with, now its just a little blue foil stamp on the cardstock, which is much easier to duplicate. so unless i am entirely wrong here, why cant someone make their own pass this year? there's no magnetic strip that would need to be activated or anything, just a barcode representing a number in the computer.
  15. its about time. is there actually transition up to the wall now? i wont be back up there til thursday at the earliest, but more likely friday night, so i cant give evaluation till then, but as of sunday, everything sucked.
  16. only first place qualifies for finals is what i meant. such a dumb idea.
  17. so whats the deal with sidewinder? it was closed all week for them to blow snow and groom it. they had time, they had good weather to make plenty of snow, but it still sucks. whats the deal here? when's the c box going in?
  18. you poor disillusioned children from the woods... bear creek's park blows anything boulder has had this year away, by a mile. and blue should have sidewinder ready to go tomorrow, with jumps, something you guys up in the poconos who get more snow than us cant manage to make. when they said they didnt have enough snow to put in rails for last week, that was the worst excuse ever. its consistantly colder up there, you guys definately had more snow than we did, and we still have more stuff to hit in the park. yes, i hate boulder right now, especially the format of their slopestyles this year. only first moves on? who does that? honestly?
  19. those are your only options? what are you looking for in the ski? soft, stiff? all mtn or strictly park? give me more details as far as what you are looking for and i can point you in the right direction.
  20. yeah the downkink has been the only rail thats been consistently decent all year. the drop rail up top wasnt bad til a few days ago, now the lip is really really low. but the battleship, sharkfin, rainbow, flatbox, and mailbox are all ride on as of now. the flat down flat is a whole different breed of haggard though.
  21. ooook so since everything sucked at blue today, i chilled with the park crew kids and sessions the flatbox a bit when they opened it back up. as far as the box goes, they have nothing to work with. there's solid ice, or granular, neither of which can be easily shaped into a lip or landing. they tried to salt the granular to melt it a bit and put it into the deathtrap after it, but it didnt refreeze enough. sidewinder is supposedly going to close during the week so they can blow and totally redo everything maybe with some new boxes/rails. they cant really do anything to it right now because the snow is not packable and the trail in general, you'd be better off with ice skates. i was on freshly tuned skis tonight with perfect edges and i was sliding all over the place. so we can only hope as of now. park crew has some good ideas, its all a matter of whether management and the amount of snow allows them to do what they want.
  22. i was expecting much better of a park than that. everything was ride on and there were no landings unless you count the craters after each box. i'm surious to see what they put out next week, since they claim everything will be different. if they had legit rails with lips instead of that ride on box crap, i think everything would have played out a lot differently. props to the BMT taking a first for the girls and second and third for guys snowboarding.
  23. i'm curious, if you were throwing 270s on, what did first and second do to qualify for the finals? i was planning on it being like last year, that all i have to do is slide the rails clean to make it into the finals. apparently i'll hve to try harder than that huh? i really hope it firms up by tomorrow night so you can actually pop off the lips.
  24. there are age groups. i believe its under 15, 16-18, and then 19+, for skiers and boarders, and then a womens division for each. last year that wasnt split into ages because there were not that many girls. its $10 entry plus lift ticket.
  25. Did anyone from here go last week? i went last year and the prelims were all rails and one haggard hip spine thing, and i was wondering if its the same deal this year? craige, andrew, i'm sure you guys can fill me in? me kev and miller are planning on coming up this friday.
