  1. I arrived at Camelback around 1:30 there were barely any cars in the parking lot. I walked up to the base area and was shocked to see how much it had receded since the last time I was here Sunday. I was breaking in new boots today, totally forgot how much it sucked. After my first few runs my feet were in pain and I was feeling discourage. After some adjustments and tweaking my bindings things started getting comfortable again and I had a great afternoon at the Camel. Coverage is still good but definitely getting thin, some narrow spots in the run outs where the trails are melting away but I think it will hold up for a great weekend. A couple lifties said they think the Stevenson might run this weekend but I guess only time will tell. I took a spin down to the Glen lift parking area and there were about 20 cars of people in the park around 4:30. MAJOR PROPS to Camelback for staying open! The base area receded quite a bit since last Sunday!! Nice and quiet, no lift lines. Thin spots, groomers did a great job making things passable. Marijies and Rocket have plenty of snow still. Mad technical glade area skiers right of Marjies Tons of snow on the Asp Big brown spot on the Hump but all the lolipops were tossed aside and it was deemed open! Dirty dirty snow on the flat to get to Birches. Good place to take a stroll practice safety. East Side closed off. Possibly open this weekend? All in all JADIP!
  2. I will tell ya when I get back, gonna take some pics of the coverage. I would say regardless they will be open this weekend because all the hype they're putting into the events. I'm def gonna just have my beer at the mountain and stick around and watch the park comp instead of Barely this year, they're always fun to watch. West side only + segregated park it seems. Better than nothing!
  3. Looks like the East side may be closed anyway. I seen on the site some of it was listed as opened today but it appears that has changed. On my way up now I dunno where this Nick Malozi lot is but it's such a pain in the ass walking all the way down to the main lots for a beer or safety meeting then back up lol.
  4. Yes it does, you drive up to the ticket window and put 4 way flashers on. Get ticket get back in car and drive straight left and right to Glenn/Stevenson parking
  5. Sunday may be the last day not Saturday..... but maybe they might give us another weekend?! Looks like they are with the park.
  6. lol this event should be quite a spectacle
  7. +1 I'm sick of Robert's attitude towards people who don't agree with him or offer other suggestions. I find an instructor who finds PA black diamonds well beyond their ability level to be to creditable.
  8. Hmmmm Hunter is a possibility depending on how much terrain the Camel has open for the weekend, never been there before. Less than 3 hours away.
  9. DOH no riding until Thursday now! They postponed it a day I guess to have more time to push snow around. This is sad not being able to ride I almost was going to go to Elk today until I seen they only have a few trails open now after the rain. At least CB is still planning on opening for late week and weekend. That rain was BS imagine if all that precip was snow instead :*(
  10. Indeed everyone should park at the Glenn lot.
  11. Any Blue Crew skizers entering the bump comp Sunday?
  12. I be der, this weekend was epic.
  13. Ya supposed to rain Monday & Tuesday
  14. I only visited Blue once this year on one of those few Pocono DEEP powder days and it was a great time. I even went and checked the quarter locker area and they looked crisp freshly painted and the open ones were all empty. When you go to a ski resort mid winter on a Friday night some icy conditions are to be expected it's foolish to expect otherwise unless its exceptionally warm or snowing. It's the busiest weekday and by night the trails get scraped and icy. The best place to ride weekday nights around here is Big Boulder since they don't open until the afternoon and groom during the day.
  15. I never skied in my life but I'd imagine fat skies are the answer to this problem?
  16. Robert I wasent hijacking anything. I was merely replying to your response on topic wig this thread with my feelings on the subject as intended on Internet discussion boards such as this one. I only spoke of powder in response to the initial statement about powder in this thread "There's no difference between slow slush in 60 degrees and riding in 8 inches of freshies powder" with my opinion. I am in no way attacking your threads just shareing my thoughts. It's perfectly fine that's your content in your world on the easy side of Jack Frost no ones taking that from you.
  17. Falling yes falling, that's what I mean when i say it's very forgiving. I don't need a lesson from a pro I know how to ride..... There is a huge difference between slush in 60 degrees and 8" of fresh powder however they can be compared in the way these conditions are ridden with a setback stance & putting a little pressure in the back seat going over deep spring snow and others deep tracks. I enjoy both conditions although I would take fresh tacks on 8" of powder on any given cold winter morning over 60 degree spring conditions given the choice. I haven't taught all that many people how to snowboard in my time but the few that I have did their best on nice smooth cord. No doubt spring conditions are good conditions to take a newbie out given how forgiven the snow when they fall but I personally wouldn't say they're the best. Here's a video reference from the Snow Sports School Directer at Camelback claiming powder is the best conditions above all to learn in http://vimeo.com/9946071. Progression in any form builds confidence in any conditions. I agree there is no reason to not come out and enjoy the Spring conditions, it's a shame more people don't otherwise more resorts would stay open longer. That black crud is just part of spring snow, if you stay on top of it it's not a problem and surprisingly I have yet to accumulate any yet this spring and I've been out every single day this week. Now I wouldn't imagine those beginners out there looking to learn put much though into having a fresh coating of spring wax on their board or any other maintenance required to get the most out of spring conditions. Nothing can be more of a bummer on spring conditions than a dry board that rides like it's on glue. Of course the snow gets crazy choppy in spring conditions. Fresh cord doesn't last long and the more spring snow gets tracked up the more track trenches and bumps form it's just the way it is has nothing to do with grooming. I know plenty of skiers who come out in the "snow, the rain, the ice, the spring melt off, the mud" many of them are even on this message board! They can also handle the steepest of trails in PA on icy conditions and spring snow most even better than I can! Skiing and Snowboarding is just a matter of personal preference we are all enjoying the same thing just with a different object attached to our feet. Robert when there's fresh powder there is absolutely no reason to be on the trails your on. It's to be expected that fresh pow on flat trails will be lethargically slow. It really baffles me that you don't venture over to the other side of Frost and experience what powder should be on the steeper trails. You wont get hurt falling into deep powder there is nothing to fear progression Robert progression. I understand you are older and very concerned about potential injury but please please please next season when there is a big dump head over to the black diamonds and try it you will thank me.... I'm not trying to be a dick when I say this but I really think you would have the time of your life.....
  18. That was freakin unreal amazing. I wish they showed the whole run

    See you at the Camel!
  20. It's not the best conditions to learn to board. Very forgiving yes but newbies have one hell of a time in slow choppy snow. Constantly see them falling and having to unstrap and walk. Usually the get very frustrated and demand their money back because these conditions are not acceptable on a 60 degree spring day! Lola
  21. Well it depends. Do you want to ride? If you do it's worth it, if you don't it's not. lol
  22. Splish splash riding spring mash!
  23. Possibly Big Pocono State Park above Camelback? I'm not sure if camping is allowed and the main gate wont be open until after memorial day. There is a big gravel lot up there though right before the park entrance I don't think anyone will bother you if you got some shuteye there. Or parked there hiked down the trail a little and pitched a tent in the field.

    TR: park

They will have the park lift running on the weekends for sure so that mess wont be an issue if you decide to return. Future reference I'm always in green pants black jacket mirrored goggles and pokerstars hat. Usually white rome graft board white bindings.
