  1. "saved" ? I thought you said there was no real problem, why did they need saving? How does the 6.6M compare to a seasons operating revenue / profit? Sounds to me that they are operating under a mountain (sic) of debt which given the area they are in and with the local competition for a limited number of skiers, they may never recover from. It's good to see they have dedicated employees, and some level of local support, it even seems that whoever is managing it right now has at least half a brain and they continue to invest despite difficult conditions. Good luck to you KCSKI, and to any other SNO workers, I really hope it works out.

    new bike!!!

you are assuming that he even owns a bike. Back on topic, nice bike, I've yet to ride a 29'er as I think if I do I would buy one and my wife might leave as a 5th bike arrives in the garage.
  3. missed it, in f'in sweden where the sun wont get lost long enough to sleep, stupid place to live/ work if you ask me. apparently it was quite good in northern CA, my kids got some decent pictures.
  4. Barb, you should definitely get here for the GP, my son and I go every year and it's a great event, nice circuit, weather, atmosphere etc. Tell them to bring something warm for the morning 'cos it's always cold down there before 10/11AM at that time of year. The kayaking is great, I would recommend it to anyone coming to the area and if you can wrap a few days in carmel/monterey around the MotoGP, you will have a great time.
  5. where you headed? weather's great in the bay area right now, sunny, warm, low humidity.
  6. I was there at thanksgiving and it was "decent eastern conditions" on a few runs, we read your reports from back then so we know how much you enjoyed it... FWIW you could probably go to squaw this coming weekend and get "decent eastern spring conditions" for a couple of hours in the morning on a handful of pretty decent runs. Not worth the travel though and not what you come to expect. Spoiled I guess.... BTW, I just renewed my families season passes for next year ($469 for squaw and alpine combined with christmas and MLK/pres. day blackout but discount tickets) so next season will probably be jinxed too. Anyone planning a vacation here should not expect good conditions, the first two years were epic snow years (no passes) last year we buy passes and the snow doesn't come.
  7. from the pictures you posted, it seemed like you had a pretty decent season once it got going, much better consistent snowfall than we had. If not for a couple of big storms putting down a decent base, this season would have been a disaster, and I'm pretty sure for the resorts it was financially a disaster despite those storms.
  8. Kayaking in Monterey bay this weekend, quite some swell in the open water but calm by the shore, we saw lots of sea lions : and a bunch of sea otters just chillin' in the sunshine. For casual kayakers, this place is just amazing, not too busy or scary, some nice waves to surf in and a great opportunity to get really close to some neat wildlife. My "pic from today", riding to work this morning (making a 2 mile commute last 18 miles) Hope you are all having great day too.
  9. For us it didn't start until late January and what's left now is slushy crap. I think I have to agree with the original post, this has been a terrible season by the standard set in the previous 2 seasons since I moved out here.
  10. jealous..... season all but done here, just slushy patches and limited lifts in Tahoe. Time to focus on summer, going kayaking with the sea otters in monterey bay this weekend.
  11. After a season of use, a quick review on my Lib-tech C2 TRS and Rome Targa bindings. First the board, probably the best thing I have ever spent money on for snowboarding, quick and responsive in bumps, stable (well kind of, you get used to the loose feeling) at speed, significantly better in powder than my old Dark series in the same length (though by no means a powder board, I no longer feel the need to get one). Do I have any criticism? The graphics on the base cause a certain amount of embarrassment when people really look at it, it doesn't "pop" as well as the dark, or my old timeless off of small jumps/bumps or out of really fast turns on groomers but despite my concerns about rockered boards in general, it holds an edge as well as anything I've ridden. Even the top-sheet has held up pretty well. Overall, 9/10. Now the bindings: Pro's - very comfortable all day, great foot hold without pressure points and I LOVE the canted footbeds. This might be the one reason why I didn't throw them out mid-season. Cons - and the reason for considering ditching them, QUALITY. after a year these things look 5 years old, cosmetic bits are falling off , the straps have broken twice and for a couple of trips the rear upper ratchet intermittently refused to grip the strap (ice I think but it was visibly clear), some WD-40 seems to have fixed this. The little rubber straps that pull the strap away when un-buckled (great idea) stretch really badly so you have to keep re-attaching them until they snap. If Rome could get their build quality together these would be killer, as it is I am less than thrilled with the purchase. Overall I cant bring myself to give more than 6/10, you might like them if you dont ride that often.
  12. sorry it's a crappy i-phone 3 picture, no camera this weekend. Best day riding of the year for me yesterday, no crowds, good base (the best all year), lovely "spring" conditions, 50+ degrees, blue skies. Spent most of the day on Headwall, Granite and Siberia. Gotta love California, my weekend consisted of Saturday riding my bike on a 50 miler through the hills and vineyards around Morgan Hill, Sunday Easter brunch (outside) in town and all the other easter stuff with the kids before driving to Tahoe, Monday Riding open to close.
  13. So from the other perspective, you have to fund flights to europe, hotels etc to save yourself $85/month for 3(?) years (about $3k).
  14. Reason why you should always ski with someone who has a whistle.....
  15. Pretty impressive efforts for this time of year, makes K-ton look pathetic.
  16. how can it not be steep enough, it's a double black diamond ...
  17. unbelievable they could go from open to that in a week, or that it can look like that in March. The grooming on the trail in the middle looks better than the last time I was at blue.....
  18. Just got back from a great weekend in Tahoe, both days at Alpine, finally some decent base on the ground and some fresh snow under the board. It's been a long time coming but hopefully we will have a long spring season now. Sorry no pic's, my bad for not taking the camera.
  19. this picture made me smile, some awesome quality skiing technique on display all the way up the hill.
  20. I paid $699 (i think) for a Squaw/Alpine unrestricted pass, then only got to ride 2 days there by the end of January because they had no freakin snow. Looked like the worst investment in a pass I've ever made until the last couple of weeks when I've bunked off of work and managed 8 days in 2 weeks (although 2 of those were at other resorts), going back this weekend with more snow inthe forecast, pass now looks like good value (finally). Having said all that, even with the "bad days" in Jan / Feb when they were hurting for coverage, it was still pretty damn good, you just get spoiled over here. Looks like we may have a month left to run depending on how long these storms keep coming but I will probably finish the year with less than 20 days riding in the US, my lowest ever.
  21. Nice.... nothing more to say.
  22. not a lot worse than some TR's posted on here, just forgot to mention the food.....

    Taos

    Nice TR, looks pretty special.
  24. I've watched this at Alpine and Sugarbowl, it's completely nuts, and should be done more often
