  1. Spring staying closed today to keep employees safe. Should make for nice fresh conditions tomorrow. All powder in eastern MontCo. 8 inches on ground lots more falling. High winds with lots of blowing snow.
  2. Good day to put the kids on their pink plastic toboggan going down a hill within walking distance of the house.
  3. Seems like they are closer to the snow zone than Blue for this weekend. Wondering if they tend to leave any trails ungroomed when the fresh stuff falls or pack it all down quickly. Last time I was there it was still Doe but might check it out again Sunday if they will have lots of fluff.
  4. There are no friends on powder days but there are kids. They can enjoy places a lot bigger than Spring these days, but if Spring gets 12 inches and Blue gets 3 it will be my choice for them to experience some fresh snow.
  5. Probably taking the kids to Spring. Bet they leave the "double black" ungroomed and it probably won't get much traffic.
  6. Seems like Sunday will be a great day to check out Whitetail, Roundtop or Liberty.
  7. I dislike the turnstiles. Had one day when I two separate times had to go to guest services for a malfunction with my card. And they were real slow dealing with it, wasting about 70 minutes of the time I had to ski.
  8. Of course it isnt. Nor is 30 seconds possible for White Lightning or Boomer. But 30 is to 48 seconds (ok should have said 50) as 600 feet is to 1000, even disregarding that Montage is more challenging.
  9. If they were to build a hsq I would want it where Phoebe Snow is. White Lightning and Boomer and glades off WL are IMO the best skiing in eastern PA, even with 600 foot vertical. If they are over in 30 seconds as you say (they take a good bit longer for me when moguled up as usual), then at least you get right back on the lift and do them again, as opposed to skiing 48 seconds at Blue and then queueing up like cattle for 10 to 20 minutes. To me the slow lift beats a line for a fast one anyway. I would rather sit with a view than stand in a crowd.
  10. The reason for non novices to ski Montage is all handled by Phoebe Snow. Long Haul is a nice sky ride to some flat stuff though.
  11. Elevator would need a good bit more cover unless you have rock skis or rentals. But looks like it would be skiable once that happens.
  12. If you ski Phoebe Snow lift I find they often let you go a good bit past 1
  13. Use of knees and ankles and arches and stance. He was asking us to copy his form while doing turns on blue and green terrain and then making a couple comments after we each tried. I had heard most of it before though still don't do it all with correct form. But after an hour of it I was not getting that much out of it. Though it had gotten better once group had shrunk from 10 to 5 through attrition, it was not that much better and I decided to let it shrink to 4 (still including the buddy I came with) and go get a few more runs on Floyds and RS.
  14. Nice day, a bit icy in spots, though it got a bit better with late day snow putting a fresh dusting on top. Everything was open but trees had too thin cover to be worth skiing. Run of the day was Floyds. Got a free "clinic" as part of Subaru winterfest, but bailed part way through to go back to East side. No lines on the expert lifts at all so it was a good call for the holiday weekend.
  15. When Challenge and Nightmare aren't open yet closing Razors for racing is pretty significant
  16. In this case there were a lot of out of control fools on the green open at Shawnee last weekend, especially boarders, while the blues had folks who knew how to do things like turn and stop.
  17. Had to explain to the kids last weekend that the green trails are actually the most dangerous on the mountain due to the large number of out of control fools on them.
  18. Maybe use that pneumatic tube that appears to be under Christie's shirt
  19. Don't know if it was called Raceway for a while, but it was called Widow Maker all the way back in Little Gap days. Going to ski Sunday and might do Blue, though without VIP access I am a bit reluctant to brave the holiday weekend crowds there.
  20. Props on the new web site and on being the only place in the Poconos 100% open for the holiday weekend. Thinking I may head there Sunday as the holiday weekend lines are often less bad than at other places. How is coverage in the trees looking? Props on the new web site and on being the only place in the Poconos 100% open for the holiday weekend. Thinking I may head there Sunday as the holiday weekend lines are often less bad than at other places. How is coverage in the trees looking? One thing I have never got about the JF trail map is it looks like there are 4 trails down the lower part of East Mt. and I only ever see 2. What's the deal with that?
