  1. I've completely lost track. Is anyone going to be a Blue tomorrow?
  2. Lol, I was given a snapshot of the employment package, and if I'm lucky enough to be hired, the position comes with a season pass to a nearby resort. Enduring 500' vert may be an investment in a gnarlier future.
  3. Jesus, I just looked a the discounted prices on Liftopia. I think I may just go to Boreal.
  4. Shoot, a post as empathetic and broad-minded as that could earn you membership on the Lady Site! To be fair, I don't think Lindsay Vonn needs any help from photoshop. But I totally agree about the sexualization of athletes.
  5. Well, I want to avoid crowds if possible, and it would be nice to go someplace with lots of Truckee locals so I could chat and maybe get a feel for the place. I can ski at Boreal on my Max Pass for free, but also I'm not going to skimp on my one day in the Sierras, so I'm cool with paying for a regular-price ticket. I don't want to go to the school's affiliate mountain because if they see how I ski they might think twice about hiring me. Maybe Alpine Meadows?
  6. I thought that was LIndsay Vonn saying she didn't have a Valentine's date?
  7. Me, too. The students mostly hate them as well. I'm just an adjunct, though, so if I want to stay on this particular gravy train I have to do what the department says.
  8. I've been an online adjunct for 18 years at a college where I used to teach when I was a grad student. Those RTMs didn't pay for themselves, you know! I leave for SV on Thursday, interview Friday, and return Saturday. Then the following Thursday I go to Tahoe--almost the same schedule except I'll get to ski out there on Saturday and come back Sunday. I will definitely post a TR!
  9. Well, indirectly they pay for everything But the page number thing was for my college students. I'd still do it, but they made us switch to an electronic book this semester.
  10. Got that right. For years I just added the new page numbers to my syllabus but kept the old ones so students could buy eight-year-old books if they wanted to. Good luck with the binding. I think Blue's shop has a lot of different board binding brands? At least I think so, from killing time over in that section of the store one day. The guys in the shop are usually pretty great about that kind of stuff.
  11. I think it was Martin Luther King, Jr. who said: "The arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward ad hominem internet pettiness."
  12. Ah, shoot. Looks like a work day.
  13. Shit, that is grim. No chance the warm temps will soften it? Was hoping to get out this afternoon.
  14. Thank you! No takers on the cat, so I'm gonna need to secure kibble money.
  15. To be fair, Naomi is completely lovely and it's a great school in an amazing place. Eighth graders are simply an unfamiliar species. I should probably tone down the snark just a bit before i end up sleeping in my car next September. Plus if any mods want to delete my previous post on the subject, that would probably be prudent.
  16. There's a woman named Shelley on AirBnB in West Dover who rents rooms in a nice, big house just outside town. I've stayed there a couple of times for $35 a night; she's friendly and helpful; has a sweet old yellow lab who will steal your stuff when you're not looking and then play keep-away with it. Good fun. Cup n saucer is great for inexpensive breakfast alongside taciturn Vermonters. Good god, Mess, the Snow Lake Lodge is the sleaziest, sketchiest, most hilarious place I've ever paid money to stay. The bar area is like your creepy uncle's basement in 1975. The rooms are a living re-enactment of lower-East-Side tenements, and walking out of there in the morning unscathed feels like an accomplishment!
  17. Doesn't Mt. Snow have some sort of Reggae Fest around that time? Might want to check that date, either to enjoy or avoid it.
  18. I'm planning on going up tomorrow whenever the rain lets up; have the day off. Then Sunday for sure.
  19. Posters should stay on topic keep the conversation focused and productzxcvbnasdfghjklwertyuiop Oops, sorry: I fell asleep from boredom just trying to type that.
  20. I thought the vert comeback was solid and in-bounds. I like your posts, Salty. I'm baffled by your choices sometimes, but who cares. I'm basically George Costanza on ski days: I'll arrive insanely early just to get a good parking space, then just hang around killing time. I post dumb stuff all the time. Win some, lose some. Come ski at Blue, It will be great to meet you!
  21. When I do a search for "eaf" in "all content" literally nothing shows up.
  22. This thread went sideways fast. I hope you get a pass at Blue because Blue is the best and it would be fun to ski with you.
