    Elk 1/16/22

Only for some, others are some of the most critical of blue. Blues card system is total shit, it has only ever kind of worked and unless it's in your sleeve you have to know how to hump it. Half the things are broken because even when you do it right it still doesn't scan and peeps just push though. It goes with the lifts and some of the grooming and some of the snow making quality and some of their business decisions. I do think it was one of the first systems in the area which may explain some things. Controversial opinion..... Elk is one of the exceptionally few places I cannot recall more than a few sections of trails because they are mostly the same and boring in design.
  2. The driveway is steep but I remember it being short. Once your in town I don't remember much super steeps on the way up the road just a slow climb and there are 383828282 places to stay there. You can be at the base if you stay at the Hyatt at Spruce Goose.
  3. You can tell alot about what is going on by the sound they are making and you got them apart that's always the hardest for me but apparently the new g3s are super easy.
  4. Siiiick bird !!!!! And that goes on your list for pros of non pow days, dope ass fancy lunches.
  5. Today was super good, the snow wasn't as good as yesterday with some crappy spots around but still very very good. The ice has come in and frozen up Chukchi Sea, it's not terrible but very fast and hard so icebreaking ships only. You can make it to the Berlin wall but your going to be moving very fast. I think yesterday pretty much everything was very high trafficked and as such the drier softer snow has yielded to a more blue like surface. Still very good but more to watch out for. Switch and main were best or maybe Chute for putting me on my ass. Super disappointed to miss my favorite meal, toast and I were talking about the fruit by the foot pancakes but it's my brother's bday and the responsible thing to do was leave at 930.....so I left at 1045 🤣🤣
  6. It's not complicated but we pick communist leaders because it's all the way left.
  7. Tomorrow when your ripping down a perfect groomer and it hits that spot where it really gets interesting that's where blue runs out of vert and you'll still have 4k to go. Plus who the fuck ever knows what the weather will be here but my gut says it warms up a day and then goes right back into the freezer and it's really been the consistent temps.
  8. Looks like a hyper good day with zero crowds
  9. Today was sooo good, we had a whole politburo going down Vladimir Shreddin. Our comrade Ridge racer has joined the revolution on a most fortuitous day. Most excellent crew as always but I super enjoy watching other people's creativity and how they ski it and thieving my favorite parts. Mute going left of the tree, toast tree airs, dirtwolfs pure speed in the trench etc etc there are a billion ways to ski it all super fun, scrappy, loose knees tight cheeks skiing. For all the fun it brings they should just turn that whole trail into a series of trenches. Unreal pattern we've been in, the other trails are perfect, even the glades where pretty good. I always feel lucky to be a skier, even more so with the blue crew but the last month has been like hitting the lottery lucky.
  10. Just the scale of that place is insane and when something is really good sometimes you take zero pictures
  11. 11 out of 10 I don't even see one cookie
  12. I might not go that far but I saw Billy Joel in October and he was actually awesome especially for being like 1074.
  13. Unless it doesn't run, that would guarantee a dump
  14. You gotta go full USSR and start before the gun up top, today you could go two left of the poles which is as far left as I've gone on the top. It was like slightly faster cross country where it's flat but was mad nice making doodle turns looking at squirls and rabbits and shit.
  15. Honestly I only got up this morning as I couldn't go yesterday with work and all the way up to first run down razors I figured a coating at best. Hopefully this is a good omen for tonight, even 3 would be nice.....especially wherever the wind ends up taking it all.
  16. Both days for sure but maybe only one day if something comes up
  17. It's called just the tip.....like Ivanka Trump I awoke this morning to a surprise two inches. NOAA said a half inch but the keen eagle eye of BenM was the first to spot patrols deeper tracks on Razors. A solid 2 made razors a dream and light for pa, if you didn't look down you didn't know it was even there. Next up was CS, with snow Mao Pow was in full effect and held excellent untracked soft snow all the way to the Berlin wall. Not surprising given the quality of his inaugural run but BenM has joined the glorious revolution. You can stay deep in the trench you can play high on the wall you can even grind the spine shit is all spectacular. Everything else is tits Mcgee but after two more on switch and widowmaker the untracked was gone. Fucked with blue bomber glades which were so nice I decided to fuck with the switch woods which were a luge track with some fluff so more time for the woods woods to be in. Super super nice sleeper morning with snow that skis really really nice even after it's all cut up. You can't hear people skiing from the lift, the skis are throwing up cold smoke and there is adventure in the skiing. Outside of the real snow days it's as good out there as it ever is.
  18. For anyone not in the know this song was first featured in the ground breaking documentary Booter Crunk. Of course remembered by all for asking the eternal question of how does one get Booter Crunk? It also sums up the feeling of skiing hike to Josef Stylish, Karl Marx, Rainbow Stalin whatever we are calling it. Perfect fluff all tucked in though all the way downtown is a bit firm. Rode this morning with Gary and Kurt, sixer only. They blew a skif across almost the entire mountain and while the snow is very nice if yesterday was 10/10 today is 9/10. Very good snow but some loose mixed in with harder patches. No bumps on main made it super wide and massive news they've groomed a bit of a ledge into the center section of switch. Personally I've always wanted to be able to mix a little air in there and make it harder to get on the right turn fast enough and it's perfect pop land insta carve right. Lazy now has rollers before the big turn. Now what everyone really wants parking gossip. Gary said that he was told by the blizzard ski guy who claims to be the former blue finance guy that it's 40$ a day up close 10$ in the back, no season pass. Then I heard from Diane ? The lady in the vail mask that it was an extra 150 on your season pass or 20$ a day any lot. This caused another lift rider I'll call lady who's always with the lady that might be Diane or Diane herself to proclaim that a lifty told her it was 10$ for front row only weekends only to pay for the new fantasy lift. FWIW I think we are all eating our own rumor and then regurgitating the slop as new news but if they do something my hope is just that it's not stupid and annoying. Like having to give the can zinchy guy an Andrew Jackson everyday to break my neck because I'm not wearing 12 point steel crampons to navigate the glacier that is the lower lot.
  19. Have a kick ass sea bass time, looks gorgeous
  20. I'm a jelly roll, hike only TCS is dope and the way it should be weekday mornings. The snow looks so good and grey PA winter mornings are what I think of when I hear the word winter. I say refer to that line by a communist of your choice, be interesting with your stashes and name matters eg Hydrox vs Oreos
  21. Got out for a quick two hours before work, only Kurt in the house. Blur skies and full sun made it feel warm and no wind. Snow is a continuation of this weekend. Challenge was a carpet, rasins was groomed and except for a few ice patches was very good. Switch and Main were perfect 10/10 snow though they are blowing full bore in come around so there is some loose blow over on upper main. Side in full sun is glorious though they did take a little off the top of the third roller. Quad sucked balls by 930 you had to use the vip and at 940 or so it stopped for 15 mins. That nuked the line but thankfully one of Kurt's crew was spying on the sixer and noticed it was now going and we could escape the quad. ROTD was Karl Marx they had blown on the CS headway which had filled it in with a nice inch in so of the super spongy. Super fun slash turns but they've built a very complicated exit out of the nets someone is going to be like a dolphin in a tuna net.
  22. It's highly likely most days I love to talk and I'm pretty sure I'm remembering the right person. It was nice chatting say hi in the future for sure if they are wearing a pink or purple poc it's me.
  23. I'm wonder how low it's programed to display down to ? Baller BV day and you can ski from the top of there to all kinds of places. It's actually a super cool hill but how many layers where your wearing ?
  24. Some may disagree but I think the more important question is what do you want to do with it ? Mostly EC ? Slack or way out in the boonies type shit. Do you want to be a goat going up or hucking cliffs on the way down ? If you have a concept with want you want to do you can build out the rig. EC dominant narrower and light but has to be 10000% bulletproof, shorter for getting around and slightly forgiving for when it's shit is my preference. FAT softer surfy more slack rigs out west where it's almost always lifts and gates approach but that's what I want to do with them. The ski matters more than in resort skiing and people are way more particular about bindings. I would say fondle some in the lot at blue or in a store and get an idea for how they are different in how the work, ramp angles, pivot points, burliness, heal lifters etc etc. Pick the one that meshes with the idea behind the ski that you like but certain ones are on the hype machine. Boots in my mind have to be comfortable because there is alot more going on than in resort skiing and if there is a hot spot your feet can get eaten up.
