  1. I'd like to point out that the 14th/15th of Feb is President's Day weekend. I imagine Blue would be super crowded, so my vote is for another weekend (plus I couldn't make that weekend anyways). Should the Blue PASR day be Gaper day or should there be two (Feb and March)? Just throwing it out there to consider...
  2. Well, I'm not south of 80, but I just woke up and looked outside and the streets are covered and it's snowing.
  3. Okay, I've got time for a full TR now! Woke up at 7, but didn't get out of the house til about 8:45 (it takes me a while to get moving in the morning). Pulled into JF and got my ticket; by the time I got on the snow, I think it was about 9:45. I wanted to do a warm-up run, so I went down some green and cut over to a blue. The snow was SO SLOW. My skis need to be waxed, but I think part of it was that the snow was so cold, it was slow snow (this is just a hypothesis). I took the lift up (some double chair) and had to book it over to Exhibition for the group meet up. Met up with everyone at 10 and we all took a turn introducing ourselves. We skiied a bunch of runs and had a blast all day. Man, it was COLD out. Our toes and noses were def. getting cold all day, but I think other than that, most people were very comfortable and dressed for the weather. Bob, Leslie, and I decided that some company should invent a goggle with a nose warmer on it--just a little something to prevent the nose from being exposed to the cold/wind. I would buy one. Lunch was fun, and so was post-skiing drinks. The Bacardi girls were giving out swag. Leslie, of course, managed to get the best swag (and a free drink) from some guy at the bar. Bob made a special friend at the bar (head Bacardi girl) and got a round of free drinks. I just used my debit card.... It was great finally meeting Barb, with whom I hope to actually ski at some point! OH, the E-2000 bar is really cool, I highly recommend it. Bottom line: PASRs who have not come to a PASR day before should know that we are a fun and relaxed bunch, and even if you don't know anyone, you'll make tons of friends. I know we all made a concerted effort to take the lift with different people to get a chance to chat, etc.
  4. I don't have time to write a full TR now (friend coming up--must clean messy apt and go to food store!), but for now, I'd like to remind everyone that if you are going to bomb the black diamond, be sure to turn, so that you can stay IN CONTROL. Remember, if you tuck the run, you might hit the tree, but if you are making turns, you totally won't. This logic brought to you by the JFBB redcoats. Also, when using the radar gun, do NOT yell out "48 MPH" in front of the redcoat. This attracts unwanted attention.
  5. oh. that makes more sense. i thought it had some sort of spacey future theme.
  6. Is it me or is "e-2000" a hilarious name? Hope everyone is up for post-skiing drinks!
  7. Yes!! Also, it will be so cold that you and Bob should wear your one-piecers!! Let me know if I need to throw the champagne in the car tomorrow am. Question: Does JF have a bar? Or at least a place to grab lunch? I know BB does, but never been to JF. THanks!
  8. TTC6--everyone is honestly really nice in person. I think you already know this, but in case you are apprehensive about hanging out with people you don't know, everyone is super nice in person. Chippy, come to Jack Frost! If I have time in the a.m. I'll pick up some beignets.
  9. 1. Moe, I said BEIGNETS, not funnel cake. I like my fried batter french. 2. Okay, well no one has really said anything so I'll just eat/drink in the lodge, all are welcome to join.
  10. So, will it be too cold for parking lot pimping? I ask because I was going to pick up beer (or, as was suggested to me, perhaps I should bring bourbon) and breakfast. Specifically, I was going to get some Abita Purple Haze and beignets (think funnel cake in donut form, sort of). Thoughts? Please post a review of those toe warmers if you get a chance! I picked some up last night and I'm curious as to whether they work.
  11. I'm really excited! I've never skiied in this cold of weather, but I'd like to be prepared. If you've been out this week, please post how you layered and whether your layers were sufficient--I'd love your input.
  12. SO, great news (or maybe not! haha) I am 95% certain that I'll be able to attend since my friend is gonna be stuck in LA this weekend. Yay! Can't wait to meet some new PASRs!
  13. I'm pretty sure there is no PASR feud that couldn't be cured by a few beers! Guarenteed to be ICE cold saturday!
  14. Haha, Barb, so funny. Post of the day! Man up, Doug! Just be like a 5-layer player!! In other news, slight chance I might make it--just got word that my friend flying in just got a work project so she might not be able to make it (in which case I can probably come to JF).
  15. Was snowing in Scranton earlier. Got a good dusting, maybe half an inch?
  16. Snow quality at Sno is fantastic. It will NOT be crowded. I can't really comment on the glades as I don't really ski them (other than off of upper fast track).
  17. Maksim, I bet you can tackle any groomed black at Blue if you are confident in your abilities and just traverse side to side. As long as the run is groomed out, just traverse side to side, and if it makes you feel better, you can stop, at the side of the trail, as well. At the end of the season last year, I did White Lightning at Sno, and man is that trail steep (okay, maybe not steep to everyone else, but to me it is!). I had no problem with it, though, because I just traversed back and forth, and then when I felt more confident, I skiied a bit more like a normal person! Also, skiing with a buddy is a great way to boost your confidence--it's great to have another person there with you. Good luck! Edit: Corrected spelling mistake.
  18. Is he out on bail or lack of passport? I'll be sure to float this around to interested parties.
  19. No--neck gaiter (am I spelling that properly? I'm thinking not...), hat, and goggles. Wasn't enough!
  20. My friend drove up from Philadelphia today to snowboard. She picked me up around 9:20, which was awesome, because I'm not sure if I could have gotten my car out. We made it there by 9:30. While we were booting up, we realized how freezing it was. Of course, being the irresponsible person that I am, I had left my mittens in the trunk of my car and when I went to get them out (before my friend picked me up) they were frozen. Then, I realized that, althought I thought that it was, my hair was not completely dry, which becomes obvious when one is in 20 degree weather. SO, the point of all this is that I had my usual layers on today but I was still FREEZING. This was my friend's first time on the snow this year, and she is still a beginner snowboarder, so we did the green circles for a while. I got extra cold because the lift seats were covered in ice. After a while, we went in and had a diet coke and soft pretzel. My friend went back out to ski, but I stayed in to try to warm up. I had a beer at the bar, but I was still cold (was hoping alcohol would do the trick--damn!). Finally I sucked it up and went back out. We then moved over to the blue squares and did them. I had to work had to stay warm, because with my friend, I spend a fair amount of time waiting for her (which isn't a big deal, but that is how I get cold). After a while, we started doing Whistler to Lower Runway (the one next to Cannonball), which was SO FUN. Lower Runway had really good snow on it. Then we did Cannonball a few times. My friend is improving, but she still needs to work on carving instead of doing the falling leaf thing (or whatever they call it in snowboarding). We headed out around 4pm, so we put in a full day. Oh, finally saw Ski this season, can't believe it's this far in and I hadn't seen him yet! FYI, they were blowing on a bunch of trails. Time to warm up!
  21. This is fab news re: open trails, but I hope they get phoebe snow back up and running!
  22. been snowing all day in Scranton, really fine though.
  23. It's snowing in Scranton right now. Has been since I woke up about 15 minutes ago.
  24. Thanks all for the input and helpful tips. It's great to know that I could still go to CO and have fun even if I don't know how to ski powder. I'll keep everyone posted on what I end up doing this year!
