  1. I watched part of the video so far. It's crazy how strict Ray Tuthill the founder and former owner of Blue was. Tickets pulled for jumping. Was that commonplace at other areas back then?

Blue needs a Super G or citizen downhill!!!

Not sure if it was commonplace at other areas, but I remember being warned about catching air off moguls/lips back then at Blue.

I recall a few years back, that inverted aerials were a no-no as well...

  2. EPAWA is pretty good. been paying attention to them for a while now. i dont think they hype shit, and they really haven't said much about the weekend storm other than its there on the models, and could be pretty significant. They were really on top of Sandy, when everyone was saying that was going out to sea, and it wouldnt affect us.

And yes, there are a ton of facebook weather sites, posting model runs from a week or two out, which is just silly. with facebook anybody can be a weatherman.

I think they've reduced their hyping after taking a lot of abuse for doing it early on.

Probably one of the better ones on FB.

  3. There has been a trend of officlial sounding weather groups that post model runs that are weather porn without explanation. There are always a model that says 4000"of snow and another that says ots. There exists no correct model, just ones that are less wrong, if you don't explain it to people they think somehow a bunch of fb people somehow know it's going to snow in two weeks. It's nerd stuff that rustles my jimmies....

I've totally stopped listening to FB, TV, radio, etc. weather, as it's all hype.

I take what Mother Nature gives and slide on it. You can't change it anyway...

My Subaru's will get me to the mountain and back, regardless (save ice storms).

  4.

That would be clutch but they would probably run somebody over, those kids ski in hordes, like a ball of people right down the center of the trail.

I can remember standing at the top of Main Street waiting for the groomers to pass and Ski Patrol to give the go ahead.

There was always a mad rush down the freshly groomed cord.

The trick was trying to time it right, so you're up at the top just prior to them opening, but not so early that you're standing around for a long time.

Many times I was caught riding the lift, watching the mass ski down the just opened run.

  5. Breck has perhaps the greatest t-bar up peak 8,

I love surface lifts, surface lifts keep everyone but the real players out of the game. They are simple and cheap, you want to run a lift up some cool shit, throw a poma in. It keeps the numbers low and the herbs elsewhere, they can be tough to smoke on but at least the lifty gets quality entertainment. Everyone no matter how good they are has fallen out of the poma track and done the ski of shame past those going back up.

    Oh yeah, forgot about Breck's.

    Damn straight!

  6. Indiggio since you put in long weekend sessions do you often session razors after the race team leaves the run late morning/early afternoon? That's my motivation to try to stay later is those razors laps.

Get the speed runs on Razors out of system early, typically before racers close it and the snow is hard/fast.

Eventually make way back to Razors after racers are done, depending on condition of bumps, Switchback, etc.

However, now that there are bumps on Nightmare, that run is a fun mix, quick bump run to a high-speed runout (nice lip about 50yds down from where Paradise connects).

Motivation to stay later? Skiing! 35 runs Saturday, just couldn't stop...

  7. I think Sunday nights are crowded cause they have discounted passes.

As we were leaving, there seemed to be a lot of people coming in...

No wait compared to the high speeds and I was mostly running Switchback

With the 6-pack VIP line, the lap difference between the 6-pack and doubles is negligible.

  8. Just returned from yet another spectacular day at Blue, wow!

Day started out at a balmy 10*, booting up to beautiful, clear blue sky, with light winds.

Luckily I had on enough layers for the temp!

Snow was just awesome, with a mix of fresh, cold powder, mixed with a set of new man-made and groomed to, well, almost perfection.

Heading to Nightmare to Dreamweaver on squeaky cold snow.

With the temperature and speed of the snow making for wicked fast run, the wind chill my face hurt so bad, it felt like it was on fire.

Took a early run down Paradise, which the snow truly was!

Headed over to Main Street for a speed run on it, and it truly was magnificent.

Excellent snow, and beautiful grooming made for a bunch of great runs.

Ended up lapping Barney's and Sleepy Hollow for the rest of the morning, as the sun rose over the mountain, it lit up the bumps perfectly.

On to about 10:00 or so, all of a sudden the clouds rolled in and there went the sun, flat light and temps began to rise a bit.

Took a few runs down Chute, but it wasn't too much fun, lots of ice and distance between bumps turned me off.

However, the entertainment of watching MANY renters trying their hand at it made for some interesting spectacles.

About 2:00pm rolled around and what have we here? Flakes flying yet again!!!

Nice squall set in and put down a paper thin coating of fresh.

Nothing to speak about, but it was rather pleasant to have two consecutive snow days at Blue!

Another couple of runs through the glades and Barney's, along with the side run of fresh on Main Street and called it a day.

One of the best weekends at Blue that I can remember.

  9. Yesterday at Blue was just magnificent.

Got into parking lot around 7:25 to a brisk 14 degrees and started booting up, with a flake or two beginning to fly.

Snow started a steady fly around 8:30-9:00, which everyone expected to start around 10.

Snow everywhere was glorious man-made powder, perfectly groomed, save Switchback which still had it's share of marbles here and there.

Snow was coming down quite heavy by 10, showing no signs of letting up.

Looking up the north side of Mountain Drive, people were coming down at a crawl, which explains the closure. Driving must have been pretty hairy.

With all the snow, there was nary a bad run to be had.

All the bumps where filling in with fresh powder, making them very attractive.

They blew snow in Sleepy Hollow glade, but not many were venturing in.

Snow was hard wells, but carveable.

By 4, the snow had pretty much stopped and blue skies were breaking with a little bit of remaining sun shining through, making for a fitting end to a spectacular day.
