I'll believe the hype when the snow's on the ground...

Spectacular opening day.
Kudos to Blue for seeding bumps from the get-go.
By mid-morning they were perfect.

When was that??
When only the doubles were open and the lines were long, probably around 11am.

The point is that if they just let the whales sit the cookies would be minimized and the conditions much better. They spend tons of money on state-of-the-art snow making and still make crappy snow. It wouldn't cost them any more to wait.
What? Take away the death cookies that Blue has worked so hard to perfect? Perish the thought!

"if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball!"
Will be dodging other skiers/boarders this weekend!
I would disagree with that...u ever ski breakable crust??? That is a whole nother ball game than cookies and there are cookies everywhere depending on the weather. Not just at Blue.
Yes, skied breakable crust before. Not fun when the tips go under the crust and the crust slams you in the shins...
Blue makes the best cookies in the Poconos!

nom nom nom
If you can ski/board Blue's cookies, you can ski/board anywhere...

I wouldn't be surprised if they have Lazy open for Sunday.
They've got to give the uh, less able skiers another way down beyond Midway, which is gonna be its typical spectacle.
Trail listing says they blew on Chute? Sounds like they want to try to take some more heat off Midway.

Jibhonks stay on vista chair
True jibhonks don't ride lifts, they just pike it back up...
-
I'm pretty sure I remember they added a higher capacity pump.
"Our snowmaking system increased water output to an impressive 14,000 gpm & air for snow to 55,000 cfm - keeping Blue the region's leader in snowmaking technology"

Probably decided it's not worth working on the valley yet and decided to concentrate on Main Street.
Whales on Main Street are impressive!
Should get better production today with diminished winds.
-
Hard to really tell for sure, but from the webcams it sure appears as though they're able to run more guns concurrently than before.
Or it's probably just my perception, hoping they blow a fuck-ton of snow before the warm spell hits.
Also wondering why they stopped blowing in the valley???

You breaking out the skinny sticks your first day out?
Probably not. Not until there's some good lines being formed.
-
My belly-button's been puckering and unpuckering all day!
Thinking about scraping the storage wax off the skis.
-
Yup I love this discussion cause whenever it occurs it means its just about time to ski.
They should starting blowing tonight on switchback really change things up for opening.
No! Then people might figure out just how good a run it really is.
-
I've done it, plenty of times. Sometimes on weekdays it's just good conditions, sunny and empty. I've easily gotten there before 9 and left when the busses start showing up. Not skiing the entire time, gotta hydrate often.
Do it all the time.
Sun comes up, crud broken up and the moguls soften, best time to ski!
-
Too warm to blow this afternoon.
Right, but they obviously had a number of hours last night that they could have blown.
-
Was looking at them and wondering why they only tested and didn't leave them on longer??

Fancy TP4...I don't even wear ties to weddings anymore but I do wear a sport coat. I thought most car salesman wear a polo shirt. Honestly I've never been able to tie a tie. When I worked for Merrill lunch my mom pre tied my tie and I would just tighten and loosen it everyday. I tried super hard to learn when I was in finance club in college and just couldn't do it.
But you can remember every inch of every run you do in a day at Blue?

I'm still wondering where the hotel is gonna go.
They could really do it up nice with an ice skating rink and outdoor pool if they want.
I thought it was going at the summit over by the water park, but then they'd need to run shuttles down to the fishing pond...

I know on finish line but wondering what will become of school hill and skiwee. Maybe they can build something on those areas.
With the extended lodge now into where Explorers was, I don't think there's enough room there for anything.
Don't know what they're going to do with school hill.
May keep using it for specialized learning (moguls, freeski, etc.) classes.
-
What are they gonna do with school hill and ski-wee?
Gonna be down where the luge run was on other side of quad.

Was looking for the lights on early this morning, but no joy...

From the webcams, it looks like the snow held up pretty well.
Compressed down a fair amount, but with 70 temps what can you expect?
