  1. Better days are coming. That can get you through many things😊
  2. Yeah it was sunny here a little bit ago, just north of Quakertown. Now it's pouring. Was on a ski lift once in a thunderstorm, it was not fun.
  3. No he does not work for State Farm. Works for a company that underwrites/ insures construction, engineering firms. They don't do any auto or health insurance or that sort of thing. And yes, I would love to go to the Snowbowl! Does that count as skiing out west? They are getting hammered with snow this year.
  4. Wow, too bad Phoenix didn't work out for you. My son lives there, it is a fun town. He's within walking distance of tons of things to do and rent is much cheaper than any where around here. You can also drive a couple hours and be in a whole different world- Flagstaff- another awesome town and Grand Canyon. Guess what he does? Works in insurance, not exactly what he planned in college, but he got a paid internship and it worked out well.
  5. Got there around 930, skied until about 130. Definitely needed cookie crumbler on Upper Main street. Lazy did soften up a bit. I am just happy to ski at this point. Went to Bear after that, was a bit disappointed, I thought they would have more open. Snow was nicer- not a cookie to be found. Park looked pretty good. They had a lot of features, and kids looked like they were having fun. I left around 6- place was getting packed. All in all, a great day.
  6. I'll be there early- not sure about opening. I could never drink beer in the parking lot, then drive home. Lightweight.
  7. I ski Bear, so no thread isn't pointless. Maybe tomorrow I'll ski Blue in the am, then go to Bear at night.
  8. Bear Creek has a lot of beginner terrain. Get there before they open on the weekend, be one of the first people on the lift- usually not that crowded until about 11am. Also, when they are able to handle skiing and getting on the lift themselves, you can let them go out on their own- it's not that big, so less chance they will get lost.
  9. Yes, when you are skiing with kids, the bar is definately out, as well as buying lunch for all. Gotta love Ramen Noodles! Enjoy skiing with your kids, I miss it. 4th and 5th graders get a lot of free ski passes. Have you looked into that?
  10. Rained pretty steady all the way up here, just foggy here. Skied couple of hours. Snow holding up well, no crowds. Glad I came out.
  11. Off today, think I'll give it a try. if I don't probably won't get out til after New Year judging by weather forcast.
  12. I was going thru some pictures on my phone this am. Looks like I was skiing at Blue on 11/23 last year! My son lives in Phoenix, he told me he had to scrape his car windows this am. I'm jealous.
  13. I think rail jam is Feb. 7th.
  14. i can't believe the yurt is gone! It was pretty old, probably ready to collapse. Didn't they have a yurt at top of the A chair for ski patrol at one time? Maybe Bear will build the park crew a nice little shack and supply a grill like ski patrol has!
  15. Only on carpeted part where you walk in front. It's great to just loosen up your boots and defrost your feet a couple of minutes.
  16. Heated floor in bottom lodge. Gotta love that on a day like today.
  17. Does anybody know if Blue plans on being open during the week?
  18. Back to the topic. Prolly be there Sunday am. Great not having to drive to Vermont for early season.
  19. Elk is a fun mountain, but I would limit it to 2 days. The problem is no place to really stay close, unless you want to stay in a bed and breakfast, or a small kinda crappy motel. Their slow lifts don't bother me, kind of goes along with the feel of the place. The restaurant/ bar is pretty good, and prices are reasonable, but I think they are only open in the evening. Oh, and don't duck ropes, or ski in the trees unless its one of your last runs. Ski patrol gets a little upset.
  20. Haha, same thing happened to me last year while we were at Mt Snow. Pretty awkward when you are with your 18 year old daughter. I was hoping she slept thru it, but we had a pretty good laugh about it the next day.
  21. Just sending my money in today- hope its not too late.
  22. Got the FKS's online, backcountry.com I think. They were recommended to me after I tore ACL by someone who I feel knows a lot about gear. Bear Creek will mount them. Ask for Finelli, not sure if I am spelling his name right.
  23. Why wouldn't insurance cover that? If medical personnel treating the injured person feel it is necessary, then the insurance company should pay. Medivac helicopters are not flown at the drop of a hat! I think when my family member was medivaced, we only owed them about $100.00. I think we got a bigger bill from the ambulance that transported her to the area where the helicopter landed!
  24. My daughter and all her friends never put the bar down, it drives me crazy. Most people I've ridden up with don't mind when you put the bar down, as long as you give them plenty of warning. I've gotten clocked in the head by the bar, and it is annoying.
