  1. we could clock the ski patrollers and whistle at them when they're going too fast.
  2. lol, you HAVE TO go to blue. it's funny hearing it put like that....because i'd LOVE to go to blue. does anybody foresee BC having decent booters by sunday night? if they do, please let me know, I might drive up. thanks!
  3. remember, listing it as 2 days hurts your average vert/day i personally would probably listed it as one...it's one session at a mountain. I put in longer sessions when I was younger. I've never had a pass so I have to get the most of my day when I go. I'd go to big boulder and ski from about 10am to 8pm, with maybe 30-60 minutes for lunch/bathroom breaks. nowadays, i usually put in 5 hour days. not my fault, the people i'm with usually tire out and want to leave. i'm starting to get annoyed as they are holding me up and keeping me from skiing longer. i'm gonna head up to blue on my own a few times this year and just ski as much as i can.
  4. Buy a helmet, ride or learn for free...at Killington National Safety Awareness Week Kicks off Saturday and we have a great deal for you! Stop by Killington Sports or Killington Outfitters and purchase a new helmet through Jan. 19 and receive a voucher to exchange for your choice of a free lift ticket or Perfect Turn group lesson.
  5. How can I learn to wax/tune my own skis?
  6. do they scan tickets at bb or just spot check them?
  7. I was thinking that myself. since they scan only at the 2 checkpoints at blue, one idea would be to put an optional scanner near that lift that a passholder could go up to in order to scan his own tag. they wouldnt need to pay more people to scan tickets, just install the infrastructure to run the system. Also, it wouldnt be hard to allows vert tracking for daily lift ticket holders, just give them a website where they could enter their ticket's barcode number and check out how much they skied.
  8. I'd definitely like to go...but i don't really want to pay $46 for a lift ticket. Any solutions?
  9. these commercials are AWESOME!! how did they get video of people skiing or tubing on Sno Mtn tubes if they've never had snow (excuse me, sn
  10. Of all the areas on the DCSki link, Ski Snow Peak seemed like the best option for a new ski area. Anyone got a ton of expendable cash? http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=18
  11. I've been having trouble with the webcam all this week. Issues both here at work and at home. At work nothing comes up, and sometimes WMP fails to connect. At home, sometimes there are buffer issues, and if it does connect, I only get video for about 2 seconds before the image freezes. Any thoughts?
  12. Ya I was thinking about what I said all this morning and realized I was wrong. They can make snow on the other trails if they don't blow on the open trails. I got one thing stuck in my head and looked at the situation without an open mind. Do they blow on open trails at Blue? Somebody who's up there today, how are the other trails looking? Any good coverage on other trails?
  13. I saw some flurries in Center City Philly this morning around 10:30 .
  14. Sorry in advance to the regulars, but I do wish Blue would stay closed until noon and make snow as long as possible. With 4 days of rain in the forecast, I would want to make as much as possible. Then again, they have many more years of experience operating a ski resort than I do...I'm sure they know what they're doing.
  15. It's actually Danielsville, not Danville. It is one of the two towns you drive through on Blue Mt. Drive if you turn off of Rt 145. Last year on the conditions page, they had the small weather thing at the bottom set to Danielsville. Now it's Palmerton. I always check the weather for Danielsville, not Palmerton, because it is closer to the mountain.
  16. I'm up for this trip. And I'll stay out there with you at 3:30am What's up with donations and fees? How much does this cost, and do they require a certain amount of donations? I hope I can get people at work to donate.
  17. I'll join up with you for the Vertical Challenge
  18. I snapped this pic from the side of the Snowshed Slope on Friday at Killington. I couldn't decide if these were air compressors or generators. (Link for full size after image) http://steve.wister.org/photos/albums/2007...070105_0323.jpg I learned about the Muddy Run pumped storage facility when I worked at PECO Energy last year, but boblikescats beat me to posting about it. The pumped storage system is actually the most efficient and cost effective method of energy storage. Exelon uses this facility to meet peak demand loads during the day by letting water flow through a turbine into a reservoir at a lower elevation. At night, when loads are lighter, the turbine is used as a motor and pumps the water back to the reservoir at higher elevation. Batteries turn out to be extremely inefficient and costly. Check out the link that Bob posted, it's pretty neat to see the details on a facility like this. Mark, I think installing the wind turbine is a great idea, if it is feasible.
  19. I ski Blue a lot. I liked their park last year and am looking forward to the improvements this year. I really liked Bear Creek's park last year, I was very impressed with it. However, I only skied there once. I prefer actually skiing than hitting the park all day, and BC is the last place I'd consider going for skiing. If I do go to BC this year (I'll go at least once) it'll be for the sole purpose of the park.
  20. Why is this not allowed in PA? Is it a law or just something that is generally not done? About 5-6 years ago I was skiing at Blue Knob. I was on the trail Run Out as a groomer was doing it's work. I skied behind it at a distance for a short while and then passed it. It was pretty neat to see up close. I was wondering why I haven't seen daytime grooming recently. Which trail do they groom in the day at Blue?
  21. don't change your avatar danger...everyday it provides me minutes of entertainment.
  22. I learned to ski about 10-11 years ago at Shawnee mt. But on my second time out, I was at JF and I took another lesson...told them I was out before and wanted a more advanced lesson and they accommodated me. It was a long time ago, but they were friendly, the instructor was knowledgeable, and it really helped me progress early on. Take the lessons, they'll really be helpful if it's one of your first times out.
  23. I'm pretty sure the Eagles play the Giants...we should win, easily. I'll be on a bus on the way home from Killington during the game...my friends and I are working on getting a tmobile sidekick or putting a cell phone next to a radio or something so we can hear the game out of state. let me know if you have any ideas.
  24. I had the chili back on Dec. 9...it was amazing. I'll definitely be getting that all the time when I go back up. I got it in the bar (though it's cooked at the snack bar), and the bar tender topped our bowls off when a new pot came in because when we ordered he only had one bowl of chili to split between my friend and I....sweet. I had the chicken fingers at the Valley lodge the week after that...they were good but nothing special. I like food in the summit lodge much better.
