  1. Oh man, somebody can't figure out sarcasm.
  2. This makes sense. Similar thing at Killington...OL Express is a double black even though it's relatively flat or even uphill. It leads into Outer Limits though, so the double black is just a sign of what's to come.
  3. Easy solution...just carry it in a holster, unconcealed. No permit needed if it's not concealed Btw this is a good way to legally carry your gun in ANY public place if you don't have the concealed weapons permit.
  4. I've walked across a mountain connector before (they might need to have a path or line off to the side though). Lifties get on/off lifts on foot all the time with no troubles. If you watched the promo video for ZipRider, you would have heard the management at (Winter Park, I believe) say they were interested in an attraction they could run YEAR ROUND. I don't see any problems here. I don't think anybody can argue they Sno can't use the extra cash they'll make running it in the winter.
  5. I think it's supposed to be open all year.
  6. Agreed Also agreed. I have a tendency to push people skiing with me to progress (rather, they're forced to since I don't like to wait or be held up at the lift and I ski fast), and I'll sometimes take people to Falls without telling them, then at the top I'm more or less like "well, we're here, might as well ski it". Tell them to take it easy, go across the mountain, etc... And afterward the response has always been "That wasn't so bad". (Don't worry, I don't do this to beginners, just people who are ready to progress but don't realize it).
  7. I'll second this. Elk is truly a beautiful place to ski.
  8. I'm just saying, use the right gear for the job, or deal with shaky video.
  9. ** Don't forget to keep your face and head warm. Definitely bring goggles and a face mask or baclava, and a warm hat or helmet. I personally think everybody should have a helmet, both for warmth and protection (more importantly the protection). Try on a helmet at your local shop to find your size and then wait for a deal on www.tramdock.com or www.Whiskeymilitia.com. I saw a Giro Fuse on Tramdock today for $50, this is normally a $150 helmet. Everybody who skis even a few times a season should seriously consider owning a helmet. They're very warm, and $50 is like a small insurance policy to buy for your head in case something terrible happens (consider the tens of thousands you'll spend on medical bills if you do hurt yourself). Helmet, goggles, & mask = WARM
  10. FYI if anybody needs to upgrade some gear, EMS has a sale up to 50% off right now. They had everything off at least 20% for the entire month of December. I bought Techwick T3 long underwear pants, and a Techwick top. On the bottom, I wear a pair of boxers, the Techwick long-underwear, and my shell pants, and I've had no troubles down to 20 degF/10degF windchill. For the same temps, I wear my Underarmor cold-weather long-sleeve shirt, a wool pull-over, and a parka. Personally, I love skiing, and I don't mind spending money on quality gear so that I can perform the sport I love to the best of my abilities in any conditions. You get what you pay for. Still, a good shopper can find good deals on quality gear. If you are dedicated to skiing (or any sport), consider your gear an investment and don't be afraid to go for quality. If you're new to the sport or trying it out for the first time, try to borrow warm gear from somebody who has extra gear so you don't have to drop a few hundred dollars to be warm for one day. ** A key note about EMS's Techwick clothing: This seems like their equivalent to Underarmor. I have a Techwick T2 top and T3 botom (levels are T1, T2, T3, with T3 being the warmest). I really like the Techwick gear, it is warm, but not tight fitting like Underarmor. I have no problem taking my shell pants off at the end of the day and lounging around in my T3 bottom for a few hours. The T3 is on sale at EMS for about $35, which is a steal for this gear, so if you're looking for a great base layer on a budget, definitely take advantage of this opportunity.
  11. I remember last year somebody posted helmet cam vids from JF, I believe. They were extremely shaky, I couldn't make anything out from them. There's a reason SteadiCam was developed for videos taken in motion. Poor man's steadicam: http://littlegreatideas.com/steadycam/
  12. ^^ What he said ^^ When I was in college I would usually count on staying a little after my ticket expired. If I did, it wasnt really more than an hour, I just knew I didnt have to be off the snow at the stroke of 5. Nowadays, I just pay the extra few dollars and call it a day. Not that the extra few dollars is really worth the convenience of being able to go in the lodge and come back out, but I'd rather just not worry about it if I have to.
  13. they should wait until 1pm, and make an announcement on the PA that it's gonna open, and wait for a few hundred people to line up for it before lowering the ropes. i'd love to see that clusterfuck.
  14. I'd guess the whole part of the trail that's called Dreamweaver. Last I checked the entire new trail was broken into two parts, Dreamweaver is the bottom part, you'll probably enter off of Paradise. The top part is listed as under construction still on their trail map, though it looks like it's just a small headwall flowing into Dreamweaver. Last year an employee told me the bottom part (Dreamweaver) would be intermediate and the top part (Under Construction) would be a black diamond. More resorts should name trails Under Construction
  15. Snowmakers said Floyds would open Monday morning. There was a shitload of snow on it, 10-15 foot piles top to bottom, the runout looked bare though (guess they'll push snow down onto it). They were setting up for more snowmaking on Floyds. I was at JF and BB today with TT C6. Had a good time, personally I like to ski JF better but we shot over to BB for a few hours in the afternoon and I snowboarded a few runs then switched back to skis when a binding broke. Had a good time, TT C6 is a cool guy and I'm definitely glad he talked me into heading up to Jack Frost instead of Blue. There are some fun trails at JF, I'll definitely head back when there's some more snow in the trees, the was some cool stuff to play around in.
  16. Who do you think they're gonna take more seriously, some kid on the internet or the guy who took the extra 5 minutes to write a legitimate letter?
  17. It would be GREAT to see the conditions improve at Blue, and while this board might be a great outlet to vent, I'm pretty sure posting here isn't gonna get anything taken care of at the mountain itself. How about this: every time you post a complaint here, take 5 minutes to copy it into MS Word, add some headings and all the relevant stuff, print it out and stuff it in an envelope and mail it to Blue Mt. Since there are complaints almost every day, this would definitely equate to a letter per person per day. Hey, if Blue got 10 letters each day from passholders (or anyone) demanding more for their money, they should take notice. Even if you don't have a complaint, or you have good comments in addition to complaints, send those in as well. Let them know what they're doing right/wrong. This goes for all mountains. Posting here isn't gonna get shit done (unless it's BC and you've got one of their guys checking the forum every hour...that helps)
  18. The Allentown Brew Works isn't too far out of the way. Is that considered a good place to watch the game?

    12/23 TR

Elk is sweet, I recommend it to everybody. I wish it was closer but I like to think that the longer drive helps keep the crowds away. I'll definitely be up there at least once this year, hopefully more though.
  20. You says Peak should buy Blue. Consider: maybe Blue Mt. isn't such a great investment? Plus, this would eliminate some more competition in the area, as JFBB and Blue would be allies. This could end up leading to more consolidation between the mountains.
  21. elk is amazing. definitely go. it beats everything else we have in the poconos.
  22. today is december 19. i'm pretty sure anyone you're talking to is already there. right now.
  23. I just noticed on the website that Blue upgraded Chute to a double diamond. WTF? Who think's this is legit? I this could go either way considering The Falls is a double diamond, but Chute has always been a single diamond...why not just keep it the same. Obvious marketing ploy.

    New Pants

I just tried on my ski pants. I put a lot of weight on in the last year, and if i try to suck it in and ski in these pants all day friday i'm probably gonna suffocate. I haven't bought new pants in a few years and the ones I got were in the higher end of general snow pants, but still not specific for skiing (got them at modells or some place like that). From what I've seen, skiing pants look pretty lightweight and are still warm - is this accurate? Can somebody point me in the right direction here? I'm looking to spend about $100 (hopefully less) and will probably go to get something tomorrow, from Buckman's or EMS. Any brands or styles I should look for? Also, I'm looking for goggles (helmet compatible) and gloves. I'd prefer to spend about $50 on each of these items...if anyone has advice in this area that'd be great. I'm sure with the gloves this won't be a terribly big deal. Also, if anyone knows of deals or has access to coupons for buckmans or ems, please let me know. THANKS!
