2015 Closing Party Discussions (Saturday 3/28)

I hope you all have a great time. I'll be there in spirit. I'll actually be at blue but on the bunny slopes with my 5 year old. Been promising her that I would take her skiing and every time I try something comes up. Anywho we'll stop by and say hello if you all aren't too crazy. Lol. -
I like how the guy yells "Athletic stance" lol... Amazing skiers? I think so!
-
Really sucks to hear no one was there. Probably 50 to 75 here at blue still... Crazy how popular this hill is.
-
Still a good amount of people here.

Ok I take back what I said about the snow. NMDW is a hockey rink. The snow on the side of the trail reminds me of the snoopy snow cone maker. That thing was the shit back in the day.

Pulling up the rear with a Sunday night sesh despite stopping at taco bell for dinner. So far the need to blow up blue Mountain's lower lodge rest room (middle stall) has proven itself elusive... Thankfully.. Anyway snow is decent. Fast sugar. I'm liking it!

They're open till 10 tonight right?

From this morning -
Dodge city is the reason why blue will be open until mid April. Oh and they'll even accept your Montage pass now that they closed (with a ton of snow).

Great morning. NMDW and surprisingly sleepy hollow glade were runs of the day. The snow and the mountain / tree tops covered in snow gave today a mid winter feel. -
Sounds like blue may have actually had better conditions today. SMH. Blue was sweet this morning.

When I re-upped my pass the other night the lady told me daily until the 29th, then possibly weekends after that. Now back to your regularly scheduled Taylor Swift thread. -

Meh. I really didn't care about it from a personal standpoint. It was my first season teaching and I wanted to learn how to teach people to ski, not be taught myself. It was that way for the few seasons that I instructed. Training was never my thing. Not because I'm so vein in thinking that I'm that great of a skier. More so because I wanted to just ski and have fun... Not work on wedge christies. -

Quick anecdote... I remember during one training session we were required to do "whirlybirds".. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure how that is supposed to make me a better skier. The only thing it made me was a douche. I want to ski with the level 3s at snowbird and have them show me how to ski the Cirque like a baller. -

One of the reasons why I couldn't teach anymore was because of the my dick is bigger than yours mentality amongst the PSIA 2s and 3s. The training and critique totally takes the fun out of sliding down the mountain with an ear to ear smile on my face, which is all I want to do. I didn't want to focus on my ankle flex. I wanted to jump into the trees or ski with my buddies having fun on East mountain. Some people are cut out for that shit. Others aren't. I look at all of the idiots on this site and see some damn good skiers doing what they love. That's what matters. -

This thread delivers... Nice work Doug I like Elk. I like the hill. Their marketing, prices, lack of tree skiing turns me off completely. It's in no way like Vermont and it takes balls to advertise as such. When you can't and don't deliver, that's false advertising... A shitty thing to do. Phillycore is right. Kickapoo is their switchback... Just not as good. Blue still has NMDW, Burma, Paradise etc. Blue's trails are cut to perfection. Yes it's 1k vert in the heart of the Pennsylvania slate belt but there is variety and character which is nice. Obviously I like frost but what makes frost special are the trees and parts of East Mt. (and they seem to be taking that away). If taken away and it's a wider version of big boulder. Plus their ski season lasts 12 weeks tops (I don't care how long BB stays open... To me they are 2 separate and distinct areas). Plus of you work a 9 to 5 skiing at frost is limited. When I worked nights a few years ago it was great. CB is a circus. Every time I'm there in waiting for the clowns and the elephants to make their appearance. The mountain is kinda boring with the exception of Pharoah and cliff hanger. Margies etc are a smaller, flatter version of razors and challenge. And yes Tannersville (complete with outlets) doesn't give off that ski country vibe. Nor do the water slides and Rollercoaster. At least blue has a cool ass covered bridge. Blue is far from perfect but definitely gives you the most bang for your buck. And they are open till 10pm every night. -
That's funny about the people waiting for my spot. I even told them that it would be a few minutes. They could care less. They were just so stoked that they scored a good spot. The skiing was really good. NMDW was it's usual awesomeness. Challenge was good first run but quickly turned to shit. Skied it at 8 and it was great. Skied it again at 9:45 is it was a death cookie minefield. It transformed quicker than the first generation Megatron (the only Megatron that I recognize, not the bastardized version from the Michael Bay movies) when he needed to transform into the gun to attack the Autobots. Anyway I digress. The challenge bumps make absolutely no sense if razors isn't open. Anyway today was still pretty awesome. Switchback was also sweet. NMDW gets the nod over Switch for better visibility. #freerazors #groomchallenge #VivaNMDW
