    Skis for my wife

Thanks for the suggestions.....the $300 budget is a loose one, just kind of a guideline.

    Skis for my wife

I am looking to get my wife some skis for christmas. She is just going into her third season skiing. She gets out at most 5 days a year. She is comfortable on green trails, but is progressing towards blues at this point. She likes her skis short, but I'm trying to get her to progress towards some longer skis. I was thinking of something in the 155cm range. I don't really know anything about skis, but she is about 130 and 5'6". I'm not necessarily looking for a new ski or a used, but I don't want to spend much more than $300 for a pair of skis and bindings. I'm gonna get her a nice pair of boots as well, so feel free to give recommendations for that as well. Thanks for the help.
  3. Long range looks good for early November opening....hopefully it pans out
  4. we've all heard your "bottom line" before. What do you want to hear? Of course the park would be better on a straight run. They don't have one to dedicate to a park. They're probably not going to put one in any time soon. What are you trying to accomplish by repeating the same thing over and over? hey man the startac was a great phone. Mine survived many full submergences before if finally bit the dust back in '04
  5. Gore is a cool mountain with a mom and pop feel to it. It and Pico are two of my favorite mountains because of the secluded deserted feel....and some nice terrain.
  6. Oops don't know how I missed that one.... My bad
  7. I am thinking of getting into this this winter. It looks like a great way to get out and get some exercise. Do any of you have any experience cross country snowboarding? My only concern is getting a little too much skooch leg because I don't like riding switch. Check out this video, it looks like a sic new sport.
  8. nobody's stoked by this? I know it's not much but come on
  9. Sunday river blew snow for a few minutes this morning.... Winter is near
  10. They've laid down quite a bit of snow! The snowmaking video on their sit is pretty sweet
  11. I haven't been to Whiteface yet, but Gore is one of my top 5 mountains. It's uncrowded with some sick terrain. Lots of rolling trails. I'd like to get back there soon, whenI was there last I wasn't that into tree skiing and I'd really like to check out their tree terrain some more.

    Wide board

I have a Venture Zephyr 162 with a waist width of 27cm. I have size 15 feet so I was looking for something as wide as you can get. I like it a lot...its the best board I've ever owned.
  13. I like Cliffhanger and Pharoh both a lot. But at the same time, I like Razors and Lazy Mile at Blue. I just feel like there are more total ways down the mountain at CB than Blue.
  14. I'm probably going to be getting my first season pass this year since I moved to PA from DE and am now a reasonable distance away from the pocs. I am debating between CB and Blue. I mainly just like to freeride around the mountain. I occasionally like to dabble in smaller jumps and rails, but nothing too crazy. I know I prefer CBs trails in general, but I like Blue's lower sidewinder boardercross thing. I am trying to decide which one I prefer. I know management at CB is usually pretty gay so that is a turn off too. Does anybody have any other opinions that might sway me one way or another?
  15. Hey guys, I'm getting married on Friday and flying to Vancouver Saturday morning. I convinced my fiancee to get in a day at Whistler before going on a cruise to Alaska. Unfortunately we're only going to be there for one day....and only Blackcomb will be open. Since I'm only going to be there for one day, I thought I'd ask any of you who've been there if there's anything that's gonna be open that I should make sure to hit. I'm pretty stoked my season's still not over...I might actually count this day as my first day of next season haha. Thanks for any info you guys have.
  16. I just left bloo moutain myself. All in all it was a good day. I ate shit doing a jump on the side of lazy mile. On my last lift ride of the day there were 2 telemarkers in front of me on the main street double got dumped off. They sat down and right after liftoff, the swing back effect dumped them right on their faces. The lift attendant didn't even see it until 3 or 4 chairs later. In the meantime one of them tried to get up and got whacked in the head by a chair. Fortunately for him he was wearing a helmet. Overall, the snow was great with some fresh poe in the morning. Someday maybe I'll ski with some of you guys.
  17. I'm planning on going skiing tomorrow but I can't decide where to go. I went to blue last weekend and had a good time. Do either of them have appreciably better conditions right now?

    Smokin Snowboards

Similarly, I got my Venture Zephyr last year from Silverton, CO. It is easily the best board I've ever ridden. It is also made by hand using sustainably harvested wood in a facility powered entirely by wind.
  19. We're going up to our place in Blakeslee for thanksgiving and my sister in law wants to know if theres enough snow on the ground to make it worth packing her snow pants. She's a non-skier, but wants to play in the snow if theres any on the ground. I know its been snowing here and there lately but I didn't know if any of it has been sticking around....thanks for the info
  20. My Camelback jackassedness meter is dropping to below average now.....could they not be as retarded as they've seemed in the past few years?
  21. I'm surprised noones talking about the fact that camelback isn't opening for thanksgiving weekend (besides the tubing hill terrain park).....I know its not unlike camelback to eff something up, but come on I want to ride a hill with a decent amount of vert instead of big boulders measly little pile of snow. Not to mention I was hoping to avoid the jib crowd.
