  1. Disagree. Its not really a push off of a chair... its more a push up to a standing ski position. Pole plants coming off the lift cause pileups. This is especially dangerous in PA/NJ where the lifties at the top are on cell phones/drinking a beer/beating off to pics of dougs old avatar/ripping their one hitter... lifties around here (with exceptions) pay poor attention and sometimes induce piles of people that seem inspired by Warren Miller vids. The only near guarantee- somewhere in that pile there will be someone wearing jeans or a one piece denim suit. Usually they're located near or at the bottom.
  2. Well I want to get some time in with gates, and the BC ski club discount is far better than any discount that blue offers. 15 bucks for a night ticket. Can't beat that. I have some technique to work on.
  3. Hey all, I'm thinking of heading down to BC for some night skiing tomorrow night. They're running Nastar, right? And they still do the ski club discount? Is anyone going to be around?
  4. I stand corrected on some of the points I made as they were somewhat archaic. I appreciate those who stepped in to correct me as I'd hate to misinform someone. Bottom line- WAX. At the least it provides some level of protection for your equipment. As for texturing, listen to the guys on here. I have a guy that does my bases for me for a bottle of SoCo and he does incredible work... but this is WAY northern Jersey... far from you. Back on topic, if you have the chance to have Jeff tune your skis, take it. In my day I've seen a lot of his equipment and it is always in flawless condition. A case of Yeung costs about 18 bucks in SE PA. That's half the price of a shop tune and you'll honestly get a far superior tune. Not that Jeff's head needs inflating here, but I call 'em like I see 'em and he does the best work in that area.
  5. You should always wax your skis when you get them, no matter what the company says is necessary. You should wax as often as possible or as often as is economically realistic for you. Basically skis glide on snow because a bead of water forms between the snow and the wax on your ski. The wax is important because it repels that water and allows you to glide. Essentially that wax protects the bases from retaining too much moisture and also is the most important aspect of maintaining your skis. As a rule of thumb I generally wax my rec skis every 4-5 days on snow and my race skis between every use. If its just a wax you're getting you shouldn't let them charge you more than 10 or 15 bucks. Down there I seem to remember there being quite a few ski shops of high regard. Honestly I agree with the idea of having them waxed once you get to your ski destination. Almost every mountain offers overnight waxing now. Good luck out there, keep the shiny side up.
  6. Just out of pure curiosity, what time are the races on Mondays? And... its slalom? My SL skis De-Lam'ed on the bases... Eh, scratch that... but message me about the team next year. I have classes monday nights so I couldn't race. Next year I'll be in though, just gotta find some SL skis. Anyone got some Volkl Racetiger SL's or Nordica Dobermann SL's they wanna sell?
  7. Hey Racechick, sorry I missed you guys this weekend... I didn't get up to the lady's lakehouse until like 2 and then I was tuning her skis until about 3:30... we slept through the alarm and just skied sno... but the important thing was that I got out and skied... 2 weekends in a row... amazing. And yes... we should all know to find you at the bar. haha.
  8. Agreed. They're having a Super-G at Whiteface this year... should be ridiculously fast. No hero snow there though. Chances are it'll be bulletproof. I'm definitely thinking about it, although its about a 5 hour hike up there even from where I am.
  9. LMAO, she's been hanging around the slopes at ASRA races wondering when I was going to make a comeback so we could party again. For the record- next ASRA race is this Saturday at Elk. Who's coming?
  10. Whoaaaa.... Who let you in here? haha. I just checked... I'm impressed with your times! I don't think I got any worse... I just think you got a lot better. I think we'll have us some fun at Elk this weekend if you're coming up. Haha... needless to say... I'm back for good.
  11. So I'm sorry I missed Doug's crack at me earlier. My experience at CB is that the whole mountain is usually great other than the faces on hump and rocket which are usually just hardpack, not ice, and the other spot is on the blue that cuts across the top of the mountain toward pharaoh's side of the hill. The last spot can be a little dangerous due to the noobs that travel it, but as far as the blacks, if you're afraid of some hardpack and you can't ski it or get an edge in it you have no business being on it. It all goes back to knowing yourself and not being a tool.
  12. Hey guys, I'm headed to Elk for the ASRA race on Saturday... anyone going to be around? My girl toy and I will be racing most of the time, but I'm sure I'll get some free skiing runs in. Let me know who will be around so we can meet up.
  13. Well TWoody WAS the site of the first chug-off between myself and Doogie Steezer MD. I think I might have to take you both up on that chugging contest. I'll definitely let you guys know when I head down to Blue. Yeah, I'll be taking advantage of the student discount at Blue for sure. When do they start Nastar again? Any ideas? I haven't even thought about tuning my free skis yet... lol... hope that doesn't cost me another bottle of SoCo like my GS skis did. haha. Wow... I just realized I'm barely a Jersey Boy anymore... I live 300 ft from New York now... scary... so I'm a little farther from Blue Mtn. The good news is that I'm a lot closer to mountains like Belleayre and Windham though.
  14. Lol Jeff I was just looking for an excuse to move to the mountains And who is snozzberry? I'm lost lol Crap I just looked. Is that really you chippy? Haha
  15. Haha thanks for the welcomes everyone... Tret- I hear ya bro. I had so much going with school I didn't have time to enjoy Doogie Steeze, MD's snow reports. Good to see people even remember me. And yeah, I haven't heard from anyone either really. I missed you all.
  16. Wow, there are a lot of new peeps around this place... After a 2 year hiatus I'm booting up again for kicks and giggles... And what does Metz do? He does it big. Bunny slope? No, I'm racing first day back on a one hour warm up. I might be crazy as some have suggested. Pics will be posted. I'll be at T-Wood Saturday... anyone gonna be up for the ASRA race? Oh yeah, whats up everyone? How you all doin?
  17. Deal. I'll be there around 10. I'll bring the wine.
  18. Yeah. Unfortunately it usually is. If I don't see one on the slopes I'll just head down and see what Sally Slifkin is up to
  19. Ha no worries man. today isn't about conditions... its about having fun, skiiing hard, and checking out hot jewish chicks on the slopes.
  20. I'm not sure those are even intended for anywhere on this hemisphere... let alone this planet. haha. And there's NO reason for those to be twins. haha, none at all. 40* pitch anyone?
  21. Word. Today's my Blue debut for the year. See all ya'll on the flip side. If you're there spot me. If not... well, I do not care about you today. Oh yeah. Merry Christmas Eve folks.
  22. Prolific as always Doogie. (and yes, i will be referring to you as Doogie all year)
  23. Doogie- That statement didn't work out so well for you last time. Try a new one. haha. Well, last night CB was blowing snow while Blue was just... well... blowing. What are your thoughts on this?
  24. Thanks Doogie. Much obliged. Baseball took up a lot of my warm season, so its good to be back. So if- (and knowing its a big IF) CB opens before blue this year, what will you say to that?
