  1. most ski clubs have lodges up north that you can stay in for less than 20 a night. and for those of us that are straight its often a good way to meet women.
  2. Just throwing in my $.02 here... Blizzard does make a race ski. fact. Their skis can be skied quite fast. I believe Bartek owns a pair that he races on. Do ski's stats point to one ski being a better ski than another? In some ways yes, but in other ways deceptively yes. Is Atomic the best race ski on the market? As much as it pains me to say so, more than likely I'd have to say yes. They get feedback from the best racers in the world on their skis. If Blizzard was getting feedback from (and had the money to pay) the Hermanator, Bode, Daron Rhalves, and the US women, Blizzard might have a shot at the title. Nordica is very low on the list amongst mens skis. Are they a bad ski? No way, I love both of my pairs to death. They have a reputation as being a ski with amazing hard snow edge grip, but at the same time are REALLY stiff and unforgiving. There are simply different reasons to ski different brands of race skis. To get back on topic: is Blizzard a bad race ski? well, you're better off on their SL skis than on a pair of Atomic Eye-Sores sorry, I mean Izors, or Goodes in a race. But very, very, VERY few serious racers or skiers for that matter will be found on a pair of budget oriented Blizzards. My take on things: Blizzards suck and feel like cardboard and are stiff in all the wrong places. Don't get me started on Goode skis as Phil will end up backed into a corner. (they should never be mounted with anything but a backcountry binding system and used for such a purpose) wow... what a rant. anyways, I'm done now.
  3. Yeah, really is a loss. I wanted 'mom to come race at the cup race with us! Interesting side note: that pacesetter tina at Blue was I think the 4th fastest woman last year at this race. She was bested only by ASRA's own Kristin Bucholtz and Mel Foy and some other girl I don't know. And yes, I finally gave in a joined a ski club, obviously, if I'm racing Sunday. Anyone who knows me knows I'm really in it for the free food and beer.
  4. Hey all, just checkin to see who will be around on Sunday. I'm racing in the Eastern PA Ski Council Cup race, so I'll be around. Who will be up? Anyone else racing?
  5. sally- I meant the other doug. lol. I don't even know if I'll be at the Go-Pro. I think I have my regional pool qualifier for nationals that day.
  6. ski- I played a lot of football and had to do a lot of combines... hence a lot of 40 yard dashes. I was running a 4.8 sec 40 at my peak. 'mom- I thought you were with mainline? You can come sunday and ski on my team!!!! doug- don't just do nastar. Nastar is a lot of fun, but ASRA is a lot more fun. Besides... I have a lot more fun on skis than i do on my board.
  7. OOOOOH, I can help here!!!! Skating is actually a lot like running a 40 yard dash, which happens to be something I've done a lot of in my life. First and foremost the thing that will help the most is increased power and quickness. The best way to do this through olympic clean-style lifting. As I don't see 'mom doing power cleans all day, you can do plyometrics. get yourself an 8 to 12 inch high box that you can jump up onto. Jump with both feet up on the box at the same time and then down. Do this as quick as possible in 30 second to minute intervals. 3 sets or so a day and you'll be suprised how much faster you are. It really builds a lot of core strength, quickness and muscle endurance. As for simple techniques to try- Running and skating are different in that the hand/foot coordination is opposite. At the same time, however, you can still use some form running techniques. First- come out of the gate very aggressively, but don't go over your tips. Start with your head down and your body forward while skating, and steadily rise up as you get to the first gate. Second- pump your arms hard. There is a direct correlation between your arm motion and your leg motion. Not to mention the added power you'll see as you pole. Third- don't over stride. Hope this helps 'mom. Maybe we'll see you at the PA Ski Council race on sunday at blue???
  8. I'd definitely take advantage of that! In fact, I plan on not shooting pool as much next winted and doing a lot of gate training instead, but coaching on nastar nights would really be invaluable. I don't think ski is talking about an annoying guy going up to everyone and telling them what they're doing wrong. I think what he's got in mind is someone being on hand for us to pick their brain at our discretion, or someone there just to see everyone and say, "hey, would you like a little bit of help?"
  9. So Jeff, you're saying doug is part of the reason that all of the "good" snow gets swept to the sides of the trails? Just checkin...
  10. You shouldn't get that scraping sound no matter what you're on... Try using an edge or 2.
  11. Now I don't ski or ride park, but I post on this message board quite frequently. I have to say that this thread is the way things should be handled. I am sick of seeing CB get bashed though. I already think CB's terrain is fantastic. I also think that with constructive input such as jerseypro and Glenn have offered up that CB's parks can be on par with Big Boulder and Bear Creek. ski911- you, craig, ashleigh, and ben are some great go-betweens with the skiers/riders and the people behind the scenes that make CB run, meaning the park crew, etc. I KNOW that CB can realize its potential this year. Please, please keep doing what you're doing ski911 and pass along the suggestions. P.S.- off topic, but the redcoats at CB are awesome. You guys pulled my wrecked arse off Big Poc last year in the sled and were somehow able to keep me more comfortable than the paramedics could once they took over. Just thought I'd give credit where credit is due.
  12. Just thought I'd quickly point this out- I had 2 races at Creek on 2/10. They were at south and it was only open to season pass holders and racers. EVERY SINGLE SEASON PASS HOLDER that I rode the lift with, spoke to, skied with, etc. was a rather pleasant person. Which basically reinforces in my mind that it truly is the assholes from NYC that ruin Creek. Just wanted to say that I had a great day at MC though. The race staff was top notch as always, snow was fantastic, and the people were friendly. Amen.
  13. Hardpack? Ice? Where do I sign up???? Its more fun than slush.
  14. Well, I do have to say on a positive note for bear creek that the race department and mark are extremely devoted employees worth commenting on. I do have to say, however, that with the exception of Bob, DH, and a few others who have posted in this thread that you should all abide by the 5 minute rule. Please think about the post you are about to make for 5 minutes before posting. Take that 5 minutes and make sure you're not about to post something completely foolish, ignorant, childish, stupid, illiterate, or unintelligable. And please don't corner bob as being an idiot because he's upset with bear creek over a tubing experience. Its obvious that none of you tube. Good for you. There are many of us out there who don't ride park. We truthfully don't really give a damn about your park complaints. We're not going to sit here and wail on you because you complained about the park. Be considerate. And if you can't be considerate please try and at least be a little bit intelligent.
  15. I was really just joking around with that post. Doug, you're awesome. Don't go changin'.
  16. Hmmmm... ski lesson Sunday of presidents weekend. Tell her to imagine trying to teach 25 kids calculus with a horde of 500 pissed off vikings trying to break into the room so they can rape and pillage everyone and everything in sight. Then tell her its worse than that.
  17. I also used to smoke a pack and a half a day
  18. That were making his penis smaller? And by the way doug... you tryin to call me slow? I don't think you are, but in the slight case that you might be you should check out nastar.com and review the times on there;
  19. Speaking of the Mt Creek slalom... Next weekend I'm going to just like Bode and finish my first slalom in a year.
  20. Yeah, crankers suck... why can't gate setters just let us keep that rhythm? Damn them. Everytime I start doing something right they foil my plans for race and/or age group domination.
  21. Ski- Actually i've never posted on a pool message board. People who can really play know the number one rule. You don't talk about how good you are. ever. FGT- A cranker is the reason I DQ'ed yesterday, though mine was a much lesser magnitude than 'dude's I'm sure. I always miss coming out of the hairpin... damn Bode syndrome.
  22. LOL, I'll ditch pool in 3 weeks when I get back from NY maybe... don't know... i'm on a very tight budget right now. Might mean I'd have to miss on a night at Blue for a course thats longer where I can get more runs in without Jeff and Doug being there... hmm... tough decision.
  23. I wanna come race the bear creek nastar course I have pool though... I've got to cut just 1 second off my time to make gold. I've been close... really close.
  24. Wow... for the first time in racing history 'dude and I have something in common. I hooked a gate today also... (I also broke another one) That sucks dude. I hope you're ok. The text you sent earlier was somewhat incoherent... lol. Something about your crash and alex... right. Oh well, go get 'em next week, Bode.
  25. As for my performance in the slalom... it can best be described this way: Me fall down go boom. Actually I DQ'ed the first run, then crashed the second, hiked and then finished out for a horrible run. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't crashed on the flat part of the course. Bernie wasn't there today, but Roman showed up to give the course a thorough ass whoopin. Today they reset between runs. The second course was UBER turny. It ended up being 6 seconds slower than the first for the fastest racers. Once again the snow was absolutely incredible, the race dept at RT put on an amazing race, and the course held up perfectly. Nastar was a blast afterwards once again... I skied that a WHOLE lot better than the slalom. I came within 1.17 seconds of gold on slalom skis in my coat and pants... Really fun for all who raced it. Another great weekend at Roundtop.
