  1. Heyoo, I'll be at Blue on Sunday for the Eastern PA Ski Council Cup Race. I'll have some time to ski around and I'm hoping to see a few familiar faces, as well as some I haven't met before. If you're going to be around, I'll have on a red spyder jacket with black spyder pants and a silver carerra helmet/red lens goggles. If I'm in my speedsuit its a black spyder with red web all over it. I'll be skiing on -gulp- a pair of red and white Atomics or MAYBE my silver Nordicas. Hit me up for some turns. My girlfriend will be with me since she's racing too. If you want to ski don't worry, she'll keep up easily. I'm pretty sure I'll be there for the morning until 4 or 5.
  2. For the record, I haven't been on a high speed lift in 20 days of skiing this year... and I haven't enjoyed any of my skiing any less. If Camelback is getting a lot of snow why would you NOT want to go there? Asp is the sweet spot on those rare powder days.
  3. If you dig curling, go rent the movie "Men With Brooms". Its Canadian, funny as hell, and you'll probably have about 25 new one-liners to use after seeing it. Awesome flick. As for the Olympics, I have to DVR the Super-G from today. Sheer awesomeness. I won't spoil the results here, since I know how some people are about that. (sorry if you're my facebook friend haha)
  4. Yeah, I skied a pair of their Laser SC skis earlier this year. They gripped hard snow extremely well, but the flex was like nothing I've ever felt. Unfortunately they retail for 1300 a pair... without a binding.
  5. That's what I was thinking Jeff, but then I realized it's a holiday week, so not only would prices be more, but my college discount -snicker- wouldn't apply. Maybe I'll skip class another time for such an event.
  6. Dougie fresh, what time you headed up today?
  7. Lol, I tried to take a pic tonight, for the "Gaper of the Year" award. Teenage kid skiing in adidas pants, with rear entry boots, wearing a bike helmet and swimming goggles. It was AMAZING.
  8. Hey all, just got back from a full night of skiing the closest mountain to NYC- Tuxedo Ridge. Great little mountain. Great race trail tonight. Got in 6 Nastar runs with a silver placing. I was glad to spend a couple hours early on working on some technique. The longest I waited in line was 3 chairs. Its really awesome to be able to ski onto the lift, even during a holiday week. Snow was amazing, and it kept snowing all night. All in all I took 18 runs and then came in for some drinks in the bar. A successful ski night if ever there was one. I highly recommend checking the place out if you're in the area. Tickets are dirt cheap, and everyone that works there is awesome.
  9. Hey all, shot in the dark here, but does anyone want to come on up for nastar night tomorrow at Tuxedo Ridge? $18 lift ticket, $5 unlimited runs in the course. Hit me up if you're comin.
  10. 161 or 166... probably 166. I know dawgcatching is checking with his rep today. I'm hoping someone has some leftovers they're trying to get rid of late in the season.
  11. I'm looking for specific skis, Phil. Stockli Laser SL's, non-FIS (cheaters)
  12. http://cgi.ebay.com/Volkl-Tecnica-Vento-6-UltraFit-Ski-Boots-30-0-mondo12-0_W0QQitemZ290401467029QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439d46ba95 http://cgi.ebay.com/mens-SALOMON-Performa-4-0-size-30-0-12-1-2-ski-boots_W0QQitemZ320486390435QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9e7a3aa3 Both of those are good bets to stay at or around 50. you're looking for a 30.0 size boot. You want it snug. Lean towards the 12. I ski 1.5 sizes smaller than my street shoes in a boot. Some of the even better skiers ski 2.5 sizes below. Good luck. Wish I could help, but mine are much smaller.
  13. Just wondering if anyone knows a shop where they carry stockli skis? preferably north of the rt 78 corridor/reading area?
  14. Justo- Thanks for the heads up man. Yeah, I hear Technica generally fits most of the weird shaped feet out there. The instep in the Beast IS pretty generous, but I'm pretty sure many of my problems are linked to the fact that I don't have footbeds in my boots. What attracted me to the Falcons is the fact that they have the custom shell that would be able to fit around my oddly shaped 5th Tarsal area. The outside of my foot stays wider a little closer to the heel than most. More and more I'm realizing that I'm not going to know for sure until I just go get a full fitting done and actually try on all of these boots. Then I will be able to beat racechick, of course, and restore order to the universe.
  15. I was hoping someone in here would have some good advice without me having to go to a shop. I'm probably going to end up taking a ride up to Green Mountain Orthotics Lab to get fit. Johnny- I'm actually skiing the original Beast right now. The instep is brutal, the width not sooo much of a problem, but they're off the shelf. I don't even have footbeds in mine. T-Maki- Did Full Tilt ever do anything with the Raichle Flexon Comp molds? I know they bought the molds when Raichle (and eventually Kneissel) went out of business. I was just wondering if they came out with a race boot. Some boots that I was considering (if anyone has any info or experience with them) are: The Salomon Falcon CS Pro, Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 120, Salomon x3 Lab, and the Technica Diablo Race Pro 130. (I was also considering the Fischer and Lange WC boots, but rumor has it they're VERY low on the instep, and the Fischers are REALLY narrow in the last) I know the width of my foot won't be much of a problem once I'm on footbeds, its the instep that worries me. Any ideas?
  16. Alright, I know not many of you are out there, but I'm starting the boot shopping process and I could use some advice as to what is out there to fit my foot. I'm a bit of a wide foot with a high instep. Looking for a "soft" race boot (120-130 flex, might consider a 110 if the fit is exponentially better). I don't need to know what's "awesome" I just need to know what might fit. Just about anything that will fit my feet will be awesome in this category. Any ideas?
  17. Haha, actually, I already did Doug. I didn't end up going to BC. I found a mountain that's 20 min from my apt, 18 bucks for a night ticket, and they run unlimited nastar on wed night for 5 bucks. See my post in "NY and Northern Mountains". The place is called Tuxedo Ridge.
  18. Hey, I was hungry for some time in the gates last night, so I set out determined to find the closest Nastar hill to my house. Unbeknownst to me, there is a little mountain called Tuxedo Ridge (formerly Sterling Forest) about 20-25 min from my apartment. First of all, having a decent place to make some turns this close is awesome. Second, they set a short, but INCREDIBLE Nastar course and I encourage anyone to get up and try it. They have gates set Mon night, Wed night and during the day Sat and Sun. Carl is the guy who runs a lot of the Nastar stuff there and he's an awesome guy. Wed night tickets are 18 bucks (10 if you're a teacher) and unlimited nastar runs is 5 bucks. Sweet find overall and I encourage anyone who is up this way to give it a shot. When I booted up in the parking lot last night there were 8 cars in it. As much as I like long runs and big mountain skiing, small mountains are great for what they are- places to get in a LOT of skiing in a short period of time.
  19. Good to know... Thanks Bob. Luckily I found a mountain 22 minutes from my apt that does nastar on wed nights, instead of driving 2 hours to bear creek. 6 racers tonight, 5 bucks for unlimited runs. I think I found heaven lol.
  20. Anyone here planning to ski nastar? I know BC is a mountain dominated by park rats (for good reason) but I was hoping I'd at least have someone up for friendly competition. And say I was contemplating bringing a pair of skis for a quick tune at the tune shop... whats the damage, and do you do edges by hand? (damn me for leaving my tuning equipment at the gf's lake house)
  21. Eh Doug, sometimes pole sitting is necessary when you have to take off gloves, etc. Granted, I prefer to be the one who's pole is sat on, but ya know. As for turning on traverses- Doug. KNOW THE CODE. haha. I don't know what that has to do with the situation, but it sure is fun to yell at bad skiers from the chairlift.
  22. Its not a matter of not knowing how to use poles... its when these idiots plant poles between the skis of other skiers... Dayskiers amaze me with some of the idiocy they display. Just the other day I saw a guy lose his glove over the protective fencing by the bullwheel at Tanglwood... so the guy reaches over to grab it without thinking. One of the lifties was shoveling and noticed that this moron was about to be decapitated by a chair that was coming around and ran to yank mr. gaper out of the way before (further) brain damage could occur.
  23. Why shouldn't people worry about this? Using poles can cause pile-ups. And honestly, you've got to be completely and utterly phucktarded to not be able to dismount a chairlift without using poles.
  24. For the record I'm significantly pissed that one of my mandatory classes was only available 6-9:15 on Thursdays this semester. I miss Thur nights at booter.
