Well said Justo and very well understood. Thank you for taking the time to write the lengthy reply on topic, it shows the passion for the sport that most of us have. I appreciate that. Get that raise! The Nextsnow competition was outa reach for him last year. He should have qualified last year for the finals. It is a judged event, he was an unknown last year, he placed 2nd at 3 events of 4 last year. The fourth one they didnt do places. The Roundtop Kid who won last year couldn't go, did they call us? noooo... they sent some kid who finished nearly next to last place. The winners last year were all season pass holders. So he goes to summer camp, meets some of the kids who went to the Nextsnow finals and finds out that they were cut on the first day of slalom and moguls qualification. He knows that racing skills is what he needs to stand out in the competition. He told me what he needed to do. I provided the resources. He thinks he has the skills now. So we all enter a fun race. Ridge beats me (he is 11) but I beat Steven by a full 2 seconds. I say.. "you are not there yet".... Train 1/2 days with the CB team when we are at CB. (no training last weekend and only 1/2 day this coming weekend) Matter of fact, at whitetail 2 weeks ago, only the winner was to go to Killington. well guess what? It turns out that they are sending the second place kid too, announced after they had said that Steven won. I am very well aware of burnout - it was my biggest concern this year with Ridge and entering him into the USSA program after his wild successful ride in the Nastar program last year. Steven on the other hand, I wasn't worried about. He has fun on most days with the race team, but there is somewhere else he would rather be. I still think that he said to his friend "that he was being punished" because he has so much fun in just the park and wanted me to look like the bad guy. He didn't dare tell his friend that he wanted to go to race team, it's just not cool. I am ok with that, I am not ok with it being repeated by grown adults on this board. The CB coaches know why he is on the CAT team. Besides he is the first official Freestyler on that team with a USSA freestyle number and all. It could be the future for CB. I'm working on supporting that and a Snowboard team, you heard it here first. So you know, don't be surprised if you see him on a Snowboard in the coming 6 weeks - Showing that you can do both is a huge asset in that competition. After the first week of March all of this will be over. I keep telling him and I that, for reassurance when there seems to be too much pressure. BTW he is not happy the showdown event got rescheduled again. See you soon!

Hey POC.. I have a garage full of stuff. Stop around ..

LOL! thanks for the advice xnick - He roller blades when he isn't on the computer in his basement, he has a cool little jib park built, and.... already does a private tramp class on mondays focusing on strengthening and stretching - Thursdays are the double mini's . the big one with the belt and then the foam pits It freaks his coach out with him corking and underflipping so I had to give her several DVD's to get her "buy in" - We have a tramp at home and will tape up ski edges accordingly. Yeah - instantly.... after three months of tramp class he landed his first attempt at a 900 at BC on xmas eve. He attributes the tramp class to the spin progression and good set-ups at BC. He is working on switch 7's now, switch 5's are stylish, I like them. He is corking 5's now but they are ugly. 270 on, switch up, 270 off just about any box. I am. I am typing on this message board.

Do you have any information on what the set up will be for the NextSnow Competition?
-
naaaa.. probably black market european stuff smuggled across the border with no warranty.
-
I'll make 2 runs Saturday if things work out. I think I have guests coming up, Chrissy is headed for Punta Cana - no guests = BC trip early Saturday while Ridge is at Training. Steven has a standing appointment at BC with a videographer if the conditions and park are good.
-
The big deal is that I don't take public critisism well, especially when it is an out right lie spread by a grown adult. I figure I lay all my cards on the table to stop the crap.
-
yes you are... I have seen you ski and I have seen other girls ski in our area. The Bear Creek showdown has a girls division, you would do well in that.

I think we will be at CB on Saturday.... I will be at Shawnee with Nipples on Sunday - Got fingers crossed for BC on Wednesday night.

Nice update - been hearing a lot of good things about liberty this year. Do you associate with the RoundtopRider Crew?

I'm glad I kept some of my old stuff around - Nipples has been eyeing it up and trying it on. We gotta glimpse too -
Wow - guys thanks for taking what I consider a serious thread and whatever.. Doug.... I have seen some good ones, not up north, have you seen n.... Steven? He is doing pretty well with what he can throw intermittantly in the bumps CB finally has some growing, but they get killed by the inexperienced skiers. on the other hand the lack of pattern has to make any other run a cake run. I disagree and I know you would to if anyone even as so much whispered something about your kids. If my kid wants to tell other kids lies about why he is race training, I can understand where it/he is coming from. What I can not understand is how a grown adult who doesn't even know me or my kids personally would spread something like that, especially on this board.

Excellent pictures - keep them coming! When I hear about mirror polished edges and flouro and areodynamics of speed suits, it just seems to me that any resistence (hitting a gate) can not be good regardless if it is a slightly tighter line to a faster finish. Excluding slalom.... I would think that the cleanest line as close to the gates without touching them would produce the best results.

He is very good at them, Ridge and I will watch him out west on the side of the mogul trails because we can't hang. Thanks for picking that part up. CB finally has moguls, we hope to make up there this season but we will be in Breckridge on that date. There are 6 criteria of the NextSnow Competition in Killington Personality Slalom Race Carving Skills Moguls Slopestyle Big Air I tried to get him to change it to Nibbles or shorten it to Nips - but that is the name the kids gave him on the bus from the airport to summer camp in Whistler and he likes it, so I do my best to respect it. I'll give him this, it does create a memory point

My GF bribed the gods with who knows what. But she said this weather is all my fault for never being home and that the "gods" are paying me back. I think that was #130 of you know you ski and ride too much when...

roller blades - Thanks for your support however every time I read one of your posts I get a really weird visual. we have an option that you can change that if you are concerned about me seeing ski gear in body orifices..

Fun Fact: 1/3 of a Canadian Junior Race Training Video shows the racers in the pipe, throwing 3's off jumps and various other park activities. No rails though I am sure that edge damage outweighs any benefits of balancing on the rails I am - he wants to go to the competitions Simple, if we wants to compete and win, then he SHOULD enter a training program. I agree - keep in mind that we have been recreational skiing for 9 years together. That has been the largest concern that I have had when they decided that they wanted to compete, knowing that they don't know what all is involved or should be involved. I don't mind putting them in a program as like a baby sitter service. But both seem to have a desire to compete to win. He surfs, skimboards, fruit boots and skateboards, rock climbing is a favorite activity Oh yes there is... There is no point in spending the money and time carting him around to NextSnow events only to have him disappointed and bad mouthing because he didn't win. I have no problem "pulling the plug" and letting him stay at Camelback in the park.... BTW I compromised with him.. He only trains with the CAT team 1/2 days (about 3 hours) when he is there, which is not that often. Quite often CAT team training has been cancelled due to weather. I think.. out of 24 days he has had .. maybe.. 7 half days of race training... Let me put it another way.. The kids that won last year over steven have all told him that they didn't know that they needed race skills. I am not going to take another week off and go to that competition if he doesn't respect the format at the finals. Forcing him? no.. All he has to do is tell me that he doesn't want to go to the finals in Killington and I save thousands of dollars. He is happy and so am I!

Crap - we will be in Breck at that time, wish we could do both..

This is an attempt to squash a rumor floating around that Nipples is being punished. Nipples (Steven) wants to compete in freestyle. He needs your help and here is why. As a parent, I will not allow him to continue to compete on the level he is on, nor will I spend the time and money carting him all over this region without cross training, body awareness, balance and strengthening drills. Last year, he placed 2nd several times at the NextSnow Qualifiers. Last year, the PA kids who went to the National Competition were cut on the first day of qualifying at Keystone CO. Want to know why? The first day consisted of Slalom, Interview, and Moguls. None of the local PA NextSnow qualifiers rated the kids on those skills last year or this year so far. It showed in last years' results. It probably will show again this year, that the PA kids suck in that competition. The reason you go to the National Competition is to try and get on the NextSnow team. You have to make it through the first day, then the second day, (park skillz) then onto the team. THAT TEAM (from last year) is going to be featured in a one hour special on NBC on February 11th just prior to the opening of the Olympics. Lofty goal and aspiration. His agreement with his mother and I was to get race training, so that he has a better chance while at Killington. We got a USSA number, paid a bazzilion fees, now he has to live up to his end of the bargain. It would be much easier and cost effective on his parents to just let him run in the park, believe me when I say that there are a lot of times when I wish he didn't want to compete. We travel way too much. He thinks it is cool to hate on racers and racers like hating on park rats amongst his peers. He may think that racing is not doing anything for him, but he is painfully aware that all of best freestylers came from different disciplines other than the park. So rather than have to answer from peer pressure about being on the race team, he can say he is being punished. It makes him look cool, I guess? What is not cool is adults advertising or announcing publicly, that he is being punished. So for those of you who agree - your support and encouragement would be hugely appreciated. He has mad park skillz, no doubt, however the competition in Killington is about being all around good on the snow. Matter of fact, if he was really smart, he would get his snowboard out and get better at riding. (bonus points for having skills in both areas) He forgets that, when he is having fun on the snow and it is time for race team practice to start. If you see me on the slopes, talk to me. I appreciate hearing anyones thoughts negative or not.

Papasteeze replied to parkrider's topic in General Chat
now I know........ I heard that you can/should wear it on your leading leg also, so people/judges know when you are going switch??? -
It seems as the season has progressed the lifties (some) do loosen up and allow the Ski team to cut line when there is one.
-
So there is no advantage to have him race everywhere he can other than gaining experience. 7 springs is 30 minutes farther than ELK, driving time from his school location. not that big of deal Confusing? yes, but I think I understand the concept. I'll check into it more tomorrow.
-
Agreed!! What I was referrin to was like filming, holding jumps facing up hill, standing on the edge of race courses and being able to push backwards and not worry about catching an edge. Flipping around and riding switch just for fun. the set of twins I got this year are so nice. I actually have them tuned with a race edge to grip the slick conditions or I can sit back and tail butter the crud as I zip by all the noobs on the connector trails. I liked my lines I rode last year, I love these Karmas for this year! They call Metrons all a one ski quiver... BS! Not in my mind compared to these.

I think I understand, but it took both of you saying the same thing in different ways to understand. THANKS!! Question - if you look at the J4 race schedule, there are races at 7 springs and Tussey - shouldn't he be going to those too? Based on the way the points work - the more he races, the better the chance of a higher finish however, I don't understand why those 7 Springs and tussey races do not appear to be a factor in the overall results. Is roundtop, 7 springs, tussey in a different division? How large is the typical field of competitors at the state Derbies?
