ah yep... Not trying to sound whats the word? (I'm sure Ski and doug can find something derogatory to call me) but based on the question at the start of your thread. Do Killington first. Then you guage other "big trips" against it as time goes on. No doubt there are "better, nicer" places you could start with, but you risk everywhere else potentially being a let down in the future as time goes on. Personal favorites - ParkCity, Vail, Steamboat, Breck, South Tahoe in that order. Great skiing, great towns. Killington is going to have more to offer including crowds compared to other Vermont locations. 1 week in the poconos was how we started. Then vermont for a week, then west for a week. Now we do 2 weeks out west progressing to snow cat tours and talk of hiking cornices. ugghhh BTW - who is we? The people you go with can help or hinder the experience of a ski trip. Like if you don't like rapping and karaoke. Don't go somewhere with someone like that to a place that doesn't have that to offer, otherwise you will end up being the audience for a whole week. Or don't go to a place with a racer that has mostly back bowls and tree skiing and gets epic dumps of snow. Give them east coast ice, which only a racer can appreciate. Best of luck! Caught the bang for the buck did ya ski?

dude, thats not worthy of a response.

Killington will give you more bang for the buck. We will be there first week of march. If you decide to do Killy end of Feb - post some reports!!

I dunno enough about terrain park topography however, if it is truly a mile, then skidude, Ridge and I made it in 75 seconds. So you can build the speed. Nile should be a giant jib park with some smaller jumps. Raceway would be the best trail for the big stuff with all the natural benches for sure. Super Pipe.... If only, everyone had one. Good idea, though I think BC is well on the way to actually getting it done.

huh? what? uhhhhh...... yeah! Beaver Creek and Crested Butte got 18" but that was a couple of days ago..
-
Slope safety awareness was in full force at RT.. I had to post your vid steve.. tooo funny. http://media.putfile.com/beat5118 I got 2 of those tickets for 4 drinks each - Hey if I announce that I skied drunk, think they will put me on the cover of a National Publication? That guys, is way too smart, Jeeez, talk shows, news shows and weekly periodicals. One sentence............. Face it, there are no pension plans from the USST, and if there was, the FIS would probably take it and use it for who knows what.

wow!! sorry to hear that. that sucks. heal up quick!!! Our montage fans are.... well lets say.. nope can't do it..

I ski hard first runs in the morning, but with the comp, I like to gape. So... hovering means I lazily cruise around the competition area, taking it all in, but not really in the middle of stuff. I don't chill at a base for too long except to eat.. Hard to get lost at Shawnee - see you guys sunday.. Watch for nipples, He is the easy one to spot.. a little midget tearing the park up...
-
I don't think so, they have to be open any way because most grocery stores restock shelving at night - we are talking one cashier who likely double duties. not a whole staff of skipatrol lifties let along the juice it takes to run a couple people up to the top etc etc Edit: oh ! and hate on CB and tell everyone to go to Blue pleeeeease - the more over there the better for me over here...
-
I'll have you home by 11 you can ride with us.

The only negative to a park pass is that people think they are entitled to the whole mountain or they are like skidude, don't like being told no, but will be happy to tell everyone else "no" about what he believes in. or they are too lazy to take 15 minutes out for a priveliedge that lasts the whole season.

This is from a park crew guy who works at CB - I think this idea has a ton of merit: and is a good one. Noobs can still use the connector that zig zags back and forth from the Stevenson lift to get back to the lodge. Glade goes beginner park and is free and is next to ski school. Mad Steeze park is next Raceway and has the pitch. Nile Mile, pass only access. Giving credit where credit is due, the following is an idea.. EDIT: you guys with graphic skills, start drawing the layouts up and submit them!!

Depends on time of year and what type of scene/conditions you like... Whistler for sure, just make sure they have snow.. last year was bad. They are finally getting snow now. When are you planning your trip? I would post a video from a summer snow camp, but.... I'm not allowed to....

I don't mind at all. Let your friends know too. Watch for the Nextsnow comp kids... Thats where you will find my kids at.

NO! absolutely not, my bad......... johnnyP= John Pierce, sorry I have seen his posts and they are great posts, but have not made the time to check him out via stats or anything else. I'll check out the mag now! Congrats johnnyP!!! - think there is any chance you would put a PASR sticker on his helmet? Did I see somewhere that someone saw something about PASR on RSN recently?
-
Thanks for all your enthusiastic information Parkbuilder. Nipples will be there and I think he is bringing me too. Sounds like a great number of PASR people on Sunday!! Make sure you guys hit me up for stickers. I'll be hovering around. Look for a black and white Bonfire jacket that reeeeally stands out.

Who is John Pierce?

Wally World?....... CB sucks? and you tell everyone that? Nice way for a snowlover to show support. That happened to me a couple of times in the early 80's Now if just one of the multi million dollar a year on-line sellers would give something back.. HAHAHA Thats a good one!

As much as I hate to say it or admit it. If it does not make economical sense to stay open. Then I too would close so that I could be open for next year. When you have more employess on the mountain than you do guests you are going to end up closed permanently if you don't have an extension to the season with epic conditions that allow you to do so. My ski shop is hurting due to this weather, the advid snow lover is hurting, the mountains are hurting, the employees who didn't get to work, who made a late payment due to a "short" check etc etc etc. But imagine how bad things would really be, if that mountain ran itself into the ground. Blue apparently can afford to stay open, Camelback cannot.... On the other hand if they would turn those freakin lights off at night - they would save a ton of money. Hey Blue fans? want all the CB fans to come to start coming to your mountain? I bet not..

Local Class in Kennett Square PA - Mondays are private and are coached with skiing in mind, Thursdays are the typical gymnastic trampoline class. He is at Level 6 It's a long thread so some of the finer points got missed. Generally he enjoys being with the race team - he just doesn't want anybody to know that. Sorry Steve. Competitions? he loves them! I don't know and it is not looking good for the USASA comp either. nipples gets 5's in the pipe, however I doubt he gets the amplitude to compare.

Thats a reasonable settting for an easy intermediate skier. You want them to come off if she falls, correct? She won't likely pre-release them at that setting unless she is doing aggressive GS carving turns in bumpy terrain or jumping. Have her put boots on, step into the skis (inside on carpet and get ready to catch her) have her lean forward and see if she can make them release, if they do, then the setting might be too light for her height and weight. It is very risky with old bindings, but if a certified shop wont set/test them, then you are on your own. Make sure they do work at a minimum, make sure they do release. Falling with a 5 foot lug wrench tied to your knee that won't come off is not a pleasant experience and tends to ruin your whole season and potentially any thought of skiing again. You can turn the DIN up later, if they come off too easy, but you can not turn back the clock and lower the DIN after an injury. My racing kids' DIN is set at 6 - but he is of expert ability and pre-releases skis set at 5 on hard GS turns. The ski shops won't set his binding any higher than 5 due to chart setting of 80lbs 5'1" - My freestyler was set at 4.0 by a shop - his skis also pre-release (pops off on jumps), I just turned them up - he is of expert ability at 70lbs, 4'-10" Giving binding setting advice is a cardinal sin by anyone other than a certified ski shop. I see people with ridiculously high settings and I see people with lots of knee damage. When I fall, I want to come out of them, I am an expert skier but have my DIN set a at an Intermediates level. Hope all this helps. Is that a straight ski or a shaped ski that she inherited?
