The hotel / waterpark was a dumb idea anyway with Great Wolf Lodge literally right across the highway and H2O right up I-80. They seem to be doing fine without it.

I'd be willing to bet that they absolutely are not closing on the 28th

I like both places but Elk is an overall better mountain. As you know its pitch is sustained top to bottom. Sno's layout is good for some, not so good for others. It's flat at the top and steep at the bottom. Good skiers will stick to quad that services the north face basically cutting the vert in half while beginners stick to the top. That being said the steeps on the bottom are steeper than anything at elk. Sno has the long haul but it's kinda out of the way. Elk also has the winding trails like kickapoo that sno doesn't have. The lifts aren't the best at either place and the snow is good at both. In fact I think sno may actually have a leg up on elk with their fan guns. Every time I ski sno I'm riding the north face only (except for the last time I went where I got hooked on nastar.) whereas at elk I'm arcing wide turns on top to bottom trails like Susquehanna and slalom. Bottom line is drive the extra ten miles and go. You'll like it. Comparing sno to elk, I put elk ahead but that being said sno is by far better than most places south of it.

Where are you skiing this weekend? (February 23-24)

No skiing for me today. - Looking like JF tomorrow with mulitple runs in happyland, turning like a mofo to get the legs burnin' before Utah. -
I'm cluless when it comes to terrain parks but if I had to guess maybe the terrain park scene is dimishing somewhat. BB Park - Their signature park over the past however many years has been a trail the entire season. Love Park is crazy looking but BB Park is a straight trail. With less demand, it's possible that less $$ is being spent on rails, additional snowmkaing for jumps etc. But like I said, I know more about tween pop stars than I do terrain parks so I could be dead wrong.

lol...This sounds like one of my Daughter's math word problems. "10,000 Joey's are skiing at K-,Mart. 5000 are wearing jeans, 3000 have their jackets unzipped. 1000 got lost in the the woods. How many Joey's are left?"

Beat me to it. Alta doesn't even have bars on the wildcat lift. Collins has a bar but no foot rest. I never put it down unless I have a student with me or if I'm "in uniform" with other people riding with me. Laziness I guess.

Oh I agree. I thought he was referring to injuries incurred from skiing out of bounds resulting in the search and rescue.

Welcome back and I agree.

So funny how this is like the skiing version of "distribution of wealth". While I'm not fan of the concept in real life, in this instance it almost makes sense. I'm OK with it provided that a) the cost of charging it up front is minuscule and b - its only charged (as moe mentions) at resorts with a high Joey population (like k Mart). But as schif mentioned "the Joey tax" is hard to accept on principle alone which is why I would avoid places like K Mart like the plague. That being said... Stupid Joeys!

Here's a good read about Vail's gnarly ummm restaurant tables. I kid you not... http://www.skinet.com/ski/article/vails-newest-tables?cmpid=enews022013&spPodID=030&spMailingID=16207537&spUserID=NDU1MzY2MDEzMAS2&spJobID=211894375&spReportId=MjExODk0Mzc1S0

Vermont is so quick to legislate but that's Vermont I guess. Ultimately it's a no win situation. It'll end up costing the consumer no matter what you do. I like #3. The fool venturing off into places where they have no business being should be responsible (for thier rescue and the replacement of thier starter jacket complete with matching hat and gloves). Mountains do their job by providing ski area boundary warning signs but if someone doesn't heed that warning then its on them. That's like a thief trying to break into someone elses car the thief suing because he cut himself on the glass while breaking in. My suggestion, buy a lesson, stay inbounds and tip your freaking instructor.

Oh you know it. Possibly some video too if Philly core lends us his go pro and if we can figure out how to attach it to our pole like you do. It's just me and jf dan the Man. Philly core couldn't make it this year.

1 to 2 feet forecasted for the Wasatch (and probably Vail too but who cares) - just in time for our arrival.

Without the drive.

That may actually be a really, really good thing if it's true. -
I forgot! Nothing tops a toast and co. Utah trip report and now I'm hurt that you're hurt so I'm quitting now too. Why can't we all just get along?

I love the face. Lookout below is looking good - such an underrated trail.
