3 days 3 PA mountains TR...

Decided to do a small mountain tour of local hills this weekend (Blue, Boulder, and BC) instead of heading up to VT because a few friends couldn't make the trip.

Started with Blue on Friday. Checked out the new sign and pulled into the lot around 8:35ish. There was already a pretty decent line up for tickets but it was moving pretty quick. We got out on to the snow by around 9:15 or so. Speaking of snow, it was pretty bad in spots and only got marginally better as the day went along. At the time it was fine because hey its early in the year but after riding Boulder and BC the following days it really showed how poor the snow was. Park was fun with some interesting features and didn't start to get crowded out until around 11 or so. Lift lines were a pain in the ass though. One of my friends passes would only scan every other run or so. Ended the day with a few beers before leaving at around 12:30. Overall not a bad opening day for Blue.

Saturday it was time to hit up Boulder. Got there around 8:30 with the same group of guys. Booted up and were on the hill by 9:00. Surprising it was pretty empty which made for some really fun park laps. Park setup was the best I have seen this early in the year with a solid selection of features. Snow was good which was a nice change from the previous day. A little surprised that they don't have more terrain open but it looks like they should be able to open more soon if they get a few more days of blowing. Lift lines started to get long around 11 or so. Did a few more runs and called it a day at noon.

Sunday was opening day at BC. Got up there at 7:45 to grab passes and beat the line up. Got a new glamour shot for my pass and ended up grabbing 5th or 6th chair up. Morning snow was the best of the weekend. Seriously, Blue should take some lessons from BC on how to make snow...it was that much better. Morning runs down Cascade with man made pow turns on skiers right were the best I remember from any opening day at BC. Park setup was decent. Wall ride / Stall shouldn't be setup directly across the trail like it is and the new rainbow rail, while fun, could use some flashing under it. Saw a few very close calls with the support bar at the end. Crowds were pretty heavy by noon and park was getting sketchy with the traffic so called it day and killed a couple of pitchers in the Grille.

Over all great weekend of riding for early December and hopefully a good indication of a great season to come.

Blue's snow is a result of intent and equipment not knowledge.

The old style guns are cheap but require better atmospheric conditions than the newer fans guns, additionally water heavy snow is cheaper as it's more resistant to fluctuations in weather and the constant pounding it takes from the 10000 idiots that constitute a good percentage of blue riders.

Upper Main St is always better because it see's less traffic, more sun and doesn't require the newbs to make a billion turns. Lower Main St is narrow, generally in the shade and is steeper almost all the way down to the lift which is rare for a PA hill. This means all the newbs getting funneled into that lower section to ride the only decent lift open have to make a billion turns to slow down to get in the lift line. The snow there needs to be rock fucking hard to put up with the skiers and snowboards going 40 into the last 200ft where they jam on the breaks throwing all kinds of snow into the woods. The trail design at Blue is very good, Switchback is one of the best in the state, designed by someone who actually rides but lower main st is always going to be difficult.

Maybe....Maybe not.....maybe go fuck yourself

I'll give you credit for keeping your response under 500 words. Although a dissertation on the history of different ways one could go about fucking themselves might make for an interesting read.

What exactly do ya mean about the wallride at the bottom of black bear??? Haha I'll admit I thought that rainbow looked a little sketch too but the kids seem to be greasing it no problem. I think the lip helps as it seems most people are launching til about the middle of the rail before they even get on. I didn't see any close calls last night. Actually saw a few people backflip off the lip it's so poppy.

It would be a cool feature to have angled down the hill instead of perpendicular like it is now. Build a lip so you can either slide the face of the wall or pop up and slide the top.
