And another groundhog, er, bluebird day.  Temp on arrival was 30’ with firm snow walking to the lodge.  Skiing was pretty much groundhog as well with no new snow and rising daily and nightly temps, the groomers were far more Eastern than Western and were very fast.  Still could get and edge, but there were actual icy spots appearing as well as grass poking up through and lots of rocks appearing again.

There are some rumors of some snow this week, one can only hope…

Did hit up the Olympic village for an opening ceremony viewing party that was fun with some free Deer Valley chocolate chip cookies.

So cool that you can just pop over to the Olympic village for stuff like this. It's going to be awesome when it goes back to SLC in a few years.

Yes definitely!  The other month they had luge qualifiers that we checked out.  The Olympic museum there is very cool too.  Last summer we stopped and they were practicing jumping into the pool.

Also cool is the Olympic Oval is like 7 minutes from our house.  They have youth speed skating and curing competitions there.

@indiggio  I haven't logged on in about 18 months and since logging back on your threads have been amongst my favorites. Are you out in UT for good or temporarily for the winter? What made you choose Solitude over the various other mountains around you?

Huge props to you for doing what many of us on here don't/didnt have the stones to do.

Hey @antman12, grate to see you're back on here!

Thanks for the props, they're very much appreciated.

We're out here for as good as it get, unless something unforeseen occurs that would take us elsewhere.
As for Solitude, moving plans hadn't actually solidified until like September and then things went whirlwind.
I actually had bought a Blue season pass at then end of last year as well as an Indy.
When we finally made it out here, I didn't know what I was gonna do, so I just picked up a full IKON which gave me the most options to vet things out this year.
Solitude is good because their pretty much the only resort where the lifts start running at 8:00am.
Just like Blue, people don't like to get up early, so I can get lots of high-speed laps in before the crowds start to pile in.
It's also very convenient in that one of the Utah Ski Bus lines starts 7 minutes from the house and runs up BCC to Solitude and Brighton.
Also the bus fare is free with the IKON.  So, I just roll on over there, get on the bus and veg out until we hit the mountain.
Still trying to figure out what I want to do for next season.

Like Warren Miller says, "If you don't do it this year, you'll only be a year older when you do." and I don't have that many years left to get older!
