Ski pants

I'm trying to help out a friend here at work

He's a skier, no "spring chicken" but very fast, has been skiing forever and his ski-gear (ski's aside) dates back to many years ago. He recently caved in and bought a new jacket, and has now got a taste for it and want new pants too.

Being old-school, he stil won't move away from bib-style pants, and has his heart set on north face or marker stuff.

So do any of the skiers out there have:

1) other suggestions of manufacturers he should look at first

2) on-line or local suppliers where he should get a good deal

All input gratefully recieved,.

Thanks

The real problem with NF gear is the rip-off's from china, they are pretty hard to spot and are incredibly cheap over there (<$20 for an adult jacket if you are good at haggling).

There seem to be loads of them on e-bay for $150, must be kicking the crap out of their sales and reputation.

I heard neon one pieces are coming back!!

If I thought I could pursuade him that was true.......

I was thinking more along the lines of them stopping production of high-quality jackets for snowsports, mountain climbing, etc. Ever since they hit mainstream popularity in the '90s they've been churning out jackets for soccer moms who ski two weekends a year.

Isn't that true about most products...the soccer moms have all the money and they like to spend it.

Maybe he'll compromise by getting suspendered pants? The whole idea of bibbed pants started to be obsolete when ski jackets were improved to where they are now. That big, goofy bunch of material over your chest just gets in the way of the jacket doing it's work.

Spyder is my personal favorite. Phenix makes great stuff, as does Karbon. One brand that's killer warm and dry is Beyond-X, but I hate the styles (sorry CAT Team kids).

If he has the time to do the shopping, the products mentioned above are the "best" and biggest and most well known. If he has the time, check out the ski shops while they are stocked full NOW!! Then get on Ebay and see if you can find the same product.. (you almost always can) and chances are good that you will get a "good deal".

Warm, maybe, dry, no way. The outfit Siblet got when she was there she continued to wear HERE, in spite of the PASEF on it, because her BMRT stuff didn't keep her warm. HOWEVER, the stuff is like a sponge if you wear it in the rain.
