Pay for a lift ticket at Blue???? I haven't done that in 11 years!

They are going to get their customers, because like you and me and everyone else on this website; we are freaks about skiing/riding and will do just about anything to get our turns in. Do I agree that they should charge full price for, realistically, 2 slopes, heck no. But if you figure it into acreage, well they may have a small argument for doing it. Still, I'll never pay it. Besides most of the folks hitting Blue early are generally season pass holders who took advantage of discounts.

I'm not a park rat so I prefer Blue for 2 reasons. 1. Moguls 2. Fall line speed on Razors and that is basically it. But....I teach at Bear Creek for 3 reasons. 1. Ski for Free 2. It's only 15 minutes from home. 3. Half price lessons for my Daughter and $25 season pass for the wife.

My $.02 on the other stuff: Glade skiing in PA - risky, rare, but not impossible. Best place is probably Frost right after a foot or two. Bear Creek did some clearing at the top of the triple too. Freeriding, multiple definitions. However, most of us think of the big mountain guys in ski porn flicks, at least that is what I think of. In PA, maybe it is searching for the little kicker along the side of the slope that can possibly get you airborn or huck off a rock that was partially covered top side by the overnight guns. Maybe that's our homestyle brand of freeride here in Keystone land.

Personally I like the term Ride Free (both on snow and in wallet)

Camelback still has better terrain than blue it is just run like crap. Best combination in PA would be Camelback run by Peak. Then no one would go anywhere else. They would be open early, stay open late. While blue edges out Camelback on 2 trails of vert, Camelback has many more top to bottom runs than Blue, and much more natural terrain. If Peak where running it the parks would be legit, equal to or better than Boulders, all would be well in the world. Then what would blue have? A shitty park and only a few good trails. What would boulder and jf have? Less vert. What would bear have? An equal park but no vert. Shawnee would basically have nothing. And mountain creek would still have only a park. But until Peak buys Camelback, every resort will have one giant glaring flaw that prevents everyone from being happy.

Frankly if Camelback could make a park like Boulder but still have the same length season, I would get a pass there and just buy lift tickets to boulder early and late. I would probably say the same for Blue, they have enough fast trails to keep me happy, a few more would be nice but the 3 (soon 4) that run under the quad/6 pack are enough. So make their park 20% better and I'd switch there.

Mountain creek will probably never win me back unless their is a new owner, Intrawest is just so full of shit they will never get it together.

But for now the early/late season and the park keep my pass at JFBB and I buy lift tickets to the others, I am just jealous of the vert and lifts at the other mountains.

I'll be out at blue a bit this year thats for sure.

Camelback may have more "top to bottom" runs, but they're so short. Camelback has nothing with a sustained pitch (flat or steep) like Main Street, Switchback, Lazy Mile, Challange or Razors. Their headwalls just lead into run out.

That may be true, I know camelback a lot better than blue. I've done camelback 20-30 times in my life and blue only a handful. Paradise is the best cruiser around, nice pitch the whole way through and some big turns. Razors and challenge are fast and steep but they're so straight, but I love the falls drop that is great for some air. I barely did the main street side, we hit the quad the entire time and I never made it out to Blue last year with the 6 pack. I'll be out a few times this year for sure. Do any of you guys go mid-week all day? I am trying to avoid going on weekend days, and I like to get out before the after school crowd too, I can rock the totally off peak hours it is amazing.

Wow full price and no quad/6-pack, that sucks - in a big way. This is the beginning of the end of Blue as a player in the early/late season openings. They are looking for cash, and marginal periods aren't going to cut it anymore.

The fanboys won't be swayed though. Blue with it's *cough* impressive 1082 feet of vert will remain the greatest in the minds of those living in the lehigh valley regardless of what other areas are doing. Proximity and convenience play no factor in their opinions, these fanboys would travel far and wide to ride the best the pocs have to offer, fortunately for them, the best is right next door.

Go back to Camelback, we don't like your negativity.

people buy passes to bear creek for the terrain park because if you ask any person that is not from either mtn they will say bear has the better terrain park and blue has better freeriding. thats basicly what it comes down too

bear has a good terrain park and so does blue, both have drawbacks, bear is mad small including the terrain park and their jumps blow. blue has square coping and ice, but its hugeeeeeeeee. yea i did get a pass to bear last year cuz it was closer and cheaper, i'm blue all the way this year, but i'll still visit the creek

the only reason they are making people pay full price is to help pay for all the additions to the mountain.. the multi-million dollar lift, condos, new trails, new everything.. thats like the only way they can help their revenue and expand the mountain.. i mean it is kinda rediculous but it will work out in the end when they mountain gets bigger and better

When will you guys realize that most of the PA ski areas could give a shit if you "real skiers" came there or not? They make way more money on the mom and dad and 2 kids who buy tix, rent skis, take lessons, and eat lunch at the MT.

I'd quit bitching and be happy that they give you a few "parks" on trails which no one ever skied anyway.

It's really not a big deal what the price is this weekend, they aren't opening any sooner than anyone else. If you have a pass, go. If you don't have a pass see has the most terrain and go there.

Doug/AtomicSki - we'll figure it out once they get Paradise/Challenge/Razors open I'll be coming up a bit.

or maybe just because it Rhymes with Blue

I have less issues with "True" than I do with "Mountain"

The only definitions of mountains rather than hills I could find are that a mountain must have a definable peak (not the case here it's just part of a ridge), or in England there is a convention that dictates a minimum elevation at the peak of >2k feet (also not the case).

In both cases that make CB much more of a mountain than Blue.

Poo also rhymes....
