  1. Another great day skiing, the slopes were in good shape, but not super like Monday. Challenge was a little marbley after a little bit. Razors top section was a little patchy with firm and soft spots, But once you’ve got down to Razorback it was nice and consistent. The west side slopes were a little soft but fun when I got over there. I put some yellow hydrocarbon wax on last night and it helped when things warmed up. Fresh edges helped on razors. No lines at all today, hopefully things will stay like the rest of the season. Got down to 32° last night, but were in for a couple of warm nights. Hopefully below freezing again on Friday night. Took a couple lifts up with BenM, nice to catch up on things.
  2. It is pretty convenient.
  3. Probably switch from Icon to Epix and ski JF as my local mountain if that happens.
  4. No! Jack Frost did that to me with their over 65 discount, cancelled it just when I became eligible. They figured they needed to give the discount to people just getting into the sport, which I can’t blame them for I guess.
  5. My wife and I had some joint aches and were kind of lethargic the day after our second shop, but felt back to 100% the day after that.
  6. Nice day, sidewinder was amazing first run. A few runs on the front 2 then over to Switchback, Widowmaker and Main Street (right side still in the shade was nice). Still no lines at 11 when I left. Going to try some red hydrocarbon wax for tomorrow.
  7. Kind of like RVing, recreational kayaking and rail to trail biking last summer.
  8. The hero route is straight down from the middle of the flat spot above the last drop on Rivershot with some jump turns. The normal person route is entering near the trees on the right side of Elevator (just at the end of the head wall split by the tower above the last drop on Rivershot) then once out in the middle of Elevator either making some turns to get to the bottom, or just looping down and using your speed to loop back to Rivershot where it starts the flat run out. There is a rocky ledge\rock that may be snow covered on the right side of the hero route, and below you on the normal route. Or you can ski elevator glade to the right of that head wall split by the tower into Elevator into the normal route. AFAIK.
  9. Yeah, I skidded off some speed before I hit the soft stuff once I knew where it was, tried to keep my knees glued together too. First time down got the heart racing a little. Glad I was on the soft stuff when I did my face plant. Just came up from the basement getting the skis razor sharp if Challenge is the same tomorrow that it was today. Although we are supposed to have a low of 32 tonight, as opposed to 18 last night, so who knows what conditions will be.
  10. I think you have to get your pass before opening day. I got my day pass card, load it up online and go right to the slope.
  11. Was on the chair behind GSS and did Sidewinder first tracks. Spent most of my time on razors. Liked the contrast of smooth on top and light chopped up fluff on the bottom. Staying right could avoid the fluff. Took my first tumble of the year when I got distracted and caught an edge in the middle of the fluff. Consoled myself by some really nice runs down Challenge. Lines were ridiculous for a weekday, although the quad wrangler was letting 3 season pass pairs thru for one of the other lines, so it wasn’t too bad. Left about 12:30, and things were a little soft (except Challenge) but not slushy.

    March 5

Noticed they had the fences up along Razors yesterday.
  13. We have a little group that parks in the corner and pulls out their camp chairs to boot up. Got complimented on my fold up rocking chair yesterday. Occasionally have to use the bathroom and am scared of the hand driers. Story about a nurse that dressed up for her hospital around the holidays as a fan powered inflatable Christmas tree and spread Covid to practically everyone on the floor. Wife and I are a little achy after our second Moderna shot yesterday, but no major reactions so far.
  14. Welcome to the geezer side.
  15. Left at 10:30 and still no lines. Maybe the crowds will start to die down. Widowmaker was nice just before I left. Something flashed by me on Razors, didn’t quite catch what it was ;-)
  16. Trust a corporation? Oh, my sweet summer child.
  17. Went up the quad first thing, there was a line of 3 or 4 people for the VIP gate, so I went to another gate that was open. When the VIP gate opened up, it must have been a good minute before any of the other gates open. Reminded me of bull riding at the rodeo, waiting for the gate to open.
  18. Fortunately I was nice and loose when I hit the first one, otherwise I would have been a homesick angel.
  19. I think that if you are virtually guaranteed not to die from the virus, the J and J shot will be popular.
  20. Holding down the fort. Great conditions, smooth with enough loose snow for turning. Stayed later, but the VIP lines moved pretty fast. Paradise was in great shape for the first run, Sidewinder was great also, but they groomed in some small rollers. Challenge looked a little rough, they must have done a fair amount of work on it last night. Waited until 10 to run it to let it warm up. Top slope in the sun was nice, but once you hit the shade it was teeth rattling frozen cord. Run of the day was Razors. Nice at the start and just kept getting better. Never made it over to the west side.
  21. In Edinburg Scotland they bricked up a plague infested alley and left all the people inside to die.
  22. Many photos from that spot. My son 15 years ago. Looking at the picture, those are the ski boots I’m wearing now.
