  1. Just enough snow at the airport to affect your flight. Do you know where from and when your plane is coming in?
  2. That's being kind. 95% of the time I have driven that road was on weekends, and in the morning it is fine, but a lot of times in the afternoon its a disaster .... especially during the holiday season.
  3. The Taurus SHO's were no joke. The new one is 365HP ... not too bad for a Ford family hauler/grocery getter.
  4. Correct, it did have the V6. Being a Ford Contour, it was actually quite a nice looking car.
  5. I'm surprised to hear you say that. I had a 2004 Ford Focus SVT and it's was 170HP and about 140 ft/lb tq. You can't compare the torque steer of that car to one that's lighter and has 60 more ft/lb (in your case with the ST) and 140 more ft/lb (in my case with the Mazdaspeed3). What blows my mind is the new Civic Type R is going to be 300hp/300tq all to the front wheels. They talk about some new electronic control to keep tq steer at bay, but I assume that will make the car feel anemic, kind of like the new electric assist steering that they are using on some cars.
  6. Doug, I think I remember you saying you've had connecting flights from Denver to JH canceled before and you've rented a car a drove up. How long did that take you?
  7. Glad to hear its a 6MT. I had a Mazdaspeed3 and torque-steer was a bitch. I assume with your curb weight and FWD you will have similar issues. Not true ... but sure to look at the "The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act." It is the dealerships burden to prove that any modifications to your car are the sole cause of them denying your warranty. Also, if you get a tune, you should have the ability to reflash back to factory when/if you have to take it in for any warranty work.
  8. Please tell me you went with the 6MT.
  9. Toast, I was assuming your line would be "single mom's generally avoid Doug as well"
  10. The only one I had ever been to was on the way to Blue ... there were almost too many options. I liked all the hot foods, but don't think that they coffee was as good.
  11. Yeah, they were 2012's but were in great shape with really nice bindings on them. I posted them on craiglist and had multiple replies in just a few hours. I probably could have asked for more money, but I was satisfied with $200. Yes, I still snowboard but haven't since Feb 2014. My right snowboard boot developed a hole in the toe so I had to throw them out. I've been looking for a cheap replacement pair but haven't yet found one. I typically only snowboard when we go with my wife's friends who are either terribly skiers or even worse snowboarders. That's what attracted me to them. While they are 115mm underfoot the turn radius is under 20m. So it's a great ski for powder but still handles well in bumps and tight trees. The Gotamas were awesome is large open bowls and blowing through crud, I just couldn't handle them in trees and bumps.
  12. New Head Cyclic 115 w/ Fischer Attack 13 bindings Best part is that I got the Cyclics for $250 off craigslist and sold my old Gotama's for $200. Won a $200 BackCountry.com gift card over the summer and used that for the bindings. $50 net for new skis is pretty rad.
  13. Out here those would be Texas plates ... if you think Jersey drivers are bad, you haven't seen anything.
  14. This all seems exhausting ... bought my first season pass this year, have access to 10+ world class resorts. I understand that they are all owned by the same company, but other resorts with different owners have banded together to try and offer a competing pass. Why hasn't a "Pocono pass" ever been put together? I understand that the owners in the Poconos are very protective of revenue and skier visits, but I think that they are being short sighted about the impact that could have.
  15. Yes, we have the Epic Local pass. On Sunday we primarily skied off the Falcon super chair and Mercury super chair and never waited in line. Monday we got stuck a few times on Independence chair, but then never returned to the base area and stayed on Kensho and never had a line.
  16. True, but Vail got dumped on not long before we were there so I was hoping for better conditions. That 1500 feet really only seems to matter late in the season for maintaining good conditions and avoiding the freeze-thaw cycle. That wasn't the case last week.
  17. Hasn't been above freezing in the mountains for a couple weeks. Skied Vail on Xmas and then Breck on 12/27 & 28. Surprisingly, snow was better at Breck. Skied mainly Peak 10 on Sunday and then Peaks 6 & 7 on Monday. Peak 6 had great snow and the steeps off of 7 were fun. Heading to A-Basin on New Year's Eve and somewhere else on New Year's Day ... JADIP!
  18. Tree wells are nasty. I fell into one face first on my first trip west. Scared the shit out of me and I really struggled to get out. I wish someone would have warned me about them
  19. Anyone else see this headline on Weather.com? "Warmest Christmas in Living Memory Possible as 'Blowtorch' Weather Pattern Likely in the East, Midwest"
  20. I am shocked at how bad people out here are at driving in these conditions. So many cars and trucks with 4WD/AWD but the wrong tires ... they are all over the road.
  21. My backyard looks the same as Barb's and my wife's school closed for the day, too .... this is one of the days that it sucks that I work from home, no snow days for me. If I didn't have 3 really important meetings today I would have taken the day off.
  22. I told you ... Xmas in Wheat Ridge Agreed ... I wonder if any other places will follow suite? Forget new lifts and lodge upgrades. That's got to cost a ton of $$$/Energy to lower that volume of water by 10 degrees.
  23. Aside from my weekend trips up into Summit and Eagle counties, I have a long weekend planned for Crested Butte and Monarch ... hoping to hit the cat skiing at Monarch. Then a Easter trip to Utah (Park City/Canyons ... thanks Epic Pass).
  24. If it's 65 degrees above 10,000 feet in December most likely the planet is on fire.
