  1. Depends on what you mean by effects. The pure lack of oxygen while exerting yourself is going to take it's toll on you. There are people that move to a higher elevation and it can take them 6 - 9 months to get fully acclimated. The best advice is to drink lots of water (an extra liter per day at minimum) at least 1-week prior to your trip and continue to consume while on vacation. As Barb said, on the hike just take your time and take lots of breaks.
  2. Where do you think that you will be on Friday?
  3. Loveland pass looks nasty .. windy and pretty well snow covered.
  4. I heard that the east wall was skiing pretty incredible last week. We went to Loveland with my sister-in-law Friday and unfortunately she's not that strong of a skier. We took several runs with her on some of the ungroomed blues and then when she puckered out, we went up and hit some of the steeper stuff and a few tree runs. Snow was great and we had a blast. Wanted to stay longer but we had family obligations back down in Denver. This weekend should be good with some more snow coming mid week.
  5. ABasin projected closing is June 5th, but they will stretch it as long as they can. When I moved out here last summer we missed it by 1 week and we got here July 3rd. They've received 28" in the last week so that should definitely help things.
  6. A Basin or Breck ... would love to get to Vail but have family in town and they close Vail pass too much. Don't want to risk getting stuck out there. I've moved on to bigger and better ... starting to think about why there's no Crested Butte/Aspen interconnect. I dropped my wife off at the airport last night .. the winds were incredible. I heard they were running on generators most of today when they were open.
  7. Its pretty crazy here right now. It was 65 yesterday, 70+ on Monday. Now, I have over a foot on the patio table out back. I70 is shut down for safety with 50+ MPH wind gusts blowing snow. Hopefully I can take off on Friday to get up the hill and enjoy some of this.
  8. Yes, more like a holiday week ... Easter break out here started last weekend and continues through next. The Lodge was decent. Only spent one night there, but the breakfast was good and it had more amenities than I expected.
  9. Just spent the weekend down there. Considering it was a holiday weekend the mountain never got too crowded. It's a great little town and the real estate is still somewhat affordable. I wonder if the expanding direct flights to Gunnison are going to change that.
  10. When I used to work in CC Philly, there were so many good options for lunch. I guess I wouldn't call them fast food, but lots of take-out/delis/restaurants/etc. within walking distance. I ate lunch out everyday and the wife and I went out to dinner at least 2-3 times a week, but we lived in the city and walking to a restaurant was more convenient than grocery shopping. Now that I work from home, I never eat lunch out and grocery shopping is much more convenient when you don't live in the city. We cook at home and eat dinner out maybe once a week. However, the food out here is NO WHERE as good as it was in Philly, so I don't have the urge to eat out as much.
  11. Glad to hear that. The wife and I are staying there on 3/20 and skiing Monarch 3/21. I read mixed reviews about the Lodge, but we didn't feel like staying down in Salida as we will be coming from CB.

    Taos 2016

Thanks, NMSKI. We are looking to go the 1st or 2nd weekend in March and are pretty much going to head where ever the snow is best. If there's good snow south of us, Taos is where we will end up.
  13. Can you report back on the latest regarding the interconnect... thanks.

    Taos 2016

Might head to Taos in a few weeks if conditions improve since my brother is not coming out now. NMSKI, I'd appreciate any pointers you have as far as lodging goes, options don't seem too plentiful. Also, any mountain knowledge would be great.
  15. A little snow tonight, but nothing too significant. The long term forecast isn't looking good, but I hope the adage about weather out here is true ... "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes"
  16. Very nice, Their Cat skiing is supposed to be incredible, but it's a bit pricey at $350/day. I'll be heading there at the end of March ... 2 days at CB and 1 at Monarch. I didn't know about that $40 deal but I got a 3-pack of tix for $100 at Christy's PowderDaze.
  17. The owners of Farmer's Cabinet owned a couple other bars and they all closed due to various reasons.. I think that the owners finally got run out of town. The Farmer's Cabinet situation was due to illegally modifying their liquor license.
  18. If you want something more laid back, there are several good bars along Fairmount Ave near the penitentiary that are good. All within walking distance of each other. McCrossen's is a must visit ... a bit of a walk off of Fairmount, but good beer and GREAT wings.
  19. I think that I have a discount ticket for WP that I got at this year's Warren Miller release. Let me know when you are there and I will see about joining you.
  20. Where in CO? ... and how do you have so many vacation days!?
  21. PASR day at Jackson Hole next year? I'll drive up for a long weekend.
  22. A Basin is open until June ... get out here for some late season turns! Get well soon.
