theprogram4 Posted March 9 Author Report Posted March 9 Jackson Hole Day 1 8 years, 1 shortened trip, 1 cancelled trip, and 2 knee injuries later, I’m back in JHole! In theory got to the mountain at 9 but didn’t get on the slopes til 9:30 due to a ticket mix up. 2-3 inches of fresh overnight. Started the day going right to left. Started out as the most winter esque day of the trip so far with temps in the 20s. Started on aspres blue lift as I wanted to hit the woods to the right but didn’t check to see they were closed. No biggie, lapped that a few times, lapped Teton and Casper lifts for a bit. Enjoyed the best snow of the trip. Soon after the temps had completely changed and it was now a spring day with spring conditions. After a nice 2 gondola runs the slush at the base was building up so I took the tram. Completely different world up there, low visibility, wind, and some snow (might have just been blowing). Took a nice run and then lapped sublet for the rest of the day. The upper two thirds of that area stayed winter esque most of the day so I took advantage of the good conditions off that lift. Definitely bigger crowds than the previous two resorts, but not bad lines at all. Unfortunately the hobacks were closed but such is life. The snow report mentioned the far left side being open, but was closed when I got there. pics from first half of day: pics from second half of day 8 1
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 Nice report. I don’t think Saratoga bowl ever opened this season and I saw the Hobacks are closed at least two of the three. Where are you staying in Jackson hole and have you had any meals there yet?

Staying in Teton village at a condo about 5 mins from the tram. Went to snake river brewing last night. Food and service were excellent (I had a pepperoni pizza) plus they had multiple hockey games on TV. The night before was Wendy’s in Idaho falls. I had a medium Dave’s triple cheeseburger value meal 1

theprogram4 Posted March 10 Author Report Posted March 10 Jackson Hole Day 2 rode from 10:15-4:15. report said 3 inches over night but it was above freezing at the base by like 9 so most of the day felt like spring skiing. Stayed to the left of the gondola all day. Started with a full Sundance run and then headed to thunder to hope sublette got off wind hold soon. I think I did amphitheater again, then grand twice. By this time I saw sublette running so headed over and lapped that. Again, better conditions up here than most of the mountain. Did numerous runs down Laramie bowl as it’s one of my favorites, plus hanging rock to rendezvous never fails. Decided to head to the tram and did a run down rendezvous bowl. Better conditions than I expected as it wasn’t too bumpy. Got to sublette and it was back on wind hold, not to reopen for the day. I feel lucky I got to ride it the two hours that it was open. Got down to thunder which was also on wind hold (another lift on the right side was also on wind hold, don’t remember which one). Rode marmot twice and back to the gondola. Did two top to bottoms from the gondola and saw that thunder had reopened so headed back there. Hit Laramie bowl twice before it closed for the day and got two more gondola runs in. Timed it good to load for last run at 3:57. Another great day at Jackson, this place is so fun. Looks like more winter like temps for the next two days, probably wind holds for one of them. Just got back from Big Hole BBQ where I had a delicious brisket sandwich. Top of rendezvous bowl: 8
theprogram4 Posted March 10 Author Report Posted March 10 Jackson Hole Day 3 Snow day! Rode from 9:45-4. Snow wasn’t forecasted to start til the afternoon but started around 10:15 and was pretty steady within a half hour. Definitely the coldest day of the trip, but not bad. I’m guessing low 20s but pretty good wind at times. Lapped Casper with my dad and eventually headed to marmot as thunder and sublette were both on wind hold (I figured they would be closed all day). Got two nice amphitheater runs in as the snow on the edges was very nice. For some reason I decided I needed to hit Teton quad and I’m glad I did. At that point, they were the best laps of the trip as the snow was piling up better than I thought as crags to Moran had great conditions and the glades next to them were fun and playful. For some reason wide open had some icy spots and wasn’t good lol. By this time got word that thunder and sublette were both open and went straight to sublette with a nice Laramie bowl run in between. Hanging rock to rendezvous had the deepest snow of the trip so I did that a few times, and made by way down bivouac as well. Wanted to do a run down grand but due to the wind, snow, and my pesky snowboard, I stood no chance on Laramie traverse so made my way to thunder to get a grand run in. This whole time I was debating a tram run, but made the decision not to as I figured it was way too time consuming when I could just lap lifts instead. That was the right call as I talked to a local who said visibility was so bad up top that the run wasn’t enjoyable. I ended the day with a few gondola runs, but unlike yesterday messed up my timing and got to the bottom at 4:02, just too late for one more. Definitely the best conditions I’ve ridden this season. Between the wind and people on the slopes, I’m not too sure how much snow fell. Probably only a few inches, but it was nice. 8 1
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Nice report, the woods to the skiers right of crags run are predominantly north facing and aren’t skied much. I do really miss the old Moran area..now going the other direction off the Teton chair towards Casper faces south and can be super scratchy and cookies and shit.
theprogram4 Posted March 11 Author Report Posted March 11 Jackson Hole Day 4 rode from 9-4:15. 9 inches in the past 24 hours…6 during operating hours yesterday with another 3 overnight. Started gondola to amphitheater to thunder. Snow was awesome and second best day of the trip but I thought yesterday was actually a bit better conditions as the snow fell. Rode Laramie which was groomed and then went to sublette. Rode bivouac a bunch of times which was great, my personal run of the day for sure. It had Fresh snow that didn’t bump up much til the afternoon. Rendezvous trail had plenty of snow as well. Spent a few runs on sublette when I decided to go check the tram line. Way too long for me, but took a bathroom break and locked up my board with the $17 lock I bought for this trip (stupid decision lol). When I returned to unlock it the code would not work. I fooled around with it for awhile with no luck. I couldn’t unscrew the binding off and then unscrew the high back as since this is the best pair of bindings I’ve ever owned hands down, i haven’t replaced them and most of the screws are so worn out they won’t turn at all. I purposely before the trip took a picture of my board, a pic of the serial number, and a screenshot of the receipt just in case anything weird happened. I was glad I did this because it was about to look like I was stealing a board. I tried pulling it apart my self with no luck. I then found a screw driver randomly and tried breaking it open with no luck. Eventually from a crouch I jumped slightly into the air and just used all my body weight with the help of gravity to break the lock. The base was packed with customers, ski patrol and employees yet nobody noticed this 20 minute spectacle. Hiding in plain sight I guess. Went to Teton lift and lapped crags to Moran, plus a woods run. Wide open had the worst conditions of the day. Did a Werner run and St. John’s run off apres vous, then headed to the tram as I wanted a 4,000+ vert run. Least crowded tram I’ve ever ridden here, I’d say 80% full. Rendezvous bowl was great, it doesn’t seem to bump up much. Figured I had enough time after this to get 2 gondola runs in but got there at 3:58 to get an extra final run. Hell of a trip, and Jackson did not disappoint. 8 1

Thanks I was trying to figure out how much extra money I’ve pumped into Jackson hole mountain resort and the entire valley..I mean in the early days of PASR chippy went, nastar Glenn, -Dan, ThinkSnow Greg, AngryHugo, Johnny Style(although he lived there in the 90s), MBike Mike, JFDan, NMSki, PARidge, Mute, Ryan, Dirtwolf, Nazareth Jay, Gary, Indiggio, Tarpenhead and I’m sure many more. I felt a little sour on JH my last trip due to not feeling great and bad snow but I made the best of it and you sure as fuck made the best of it. You put in some long ass sessions, you and Johnny law definitely the most dedicated PASRs 1

I’ve gone through San Fran twice to and from JH..you really get your moneys worth taking that @RootDKJ and pitchers and catchers soon and that centerfield song is gonna be relevant soon as well me personally I prefer third base cause no diseases or pregnancy and my fingers never get soft. 1
