Snow rumors

The rumors were flying around the office, today, that long range weather models were predicting a 6" to 20" snow event early next week. Anyone else heard anything about it? NOAA gives 50% chance for snow starting Monday night and lasting for at least 24 hours. It sounds like a classic mid-Atlantic storm, because the mid-west NOAA forecasts don't even mention snow. With the cold temps, this could be really awesome, if it's true. And I'm taking the week off! :wiggle

Whitetail on Monday, 2/12. Blue Knob Tues thru Thurs. Whitetail (or Roundtop) on Friday (2/16).

Come on snow gods. You can do this!!!

I know there are a few here who fear jinxing, simply by talking about snow possibilities. But for the past four seasons, I've always chosen THE week to take off for my east-coast ski tour and have always had great skiing. This is THE week coming up, so we'll see. I also expect a turn around in precip out west before I head out in early March.

One of my friends who is really into this wether stuff wrote the following today at 230 p.m. What he wrote was for Central Jersey/Trenton. Usualy the Poconos get a good one from stuff like this too. I'll have to ask him to write a Pocono update for his blog. He has been talking about this storm for about a week now.

***UPDATE 02/09/07 1430***

Well, FULL WEENIE MODE has been reached. After reviewing the major model noontime runs, my pulse went from a nice resting rate of 76 to I am sure triple digits. ALL of the major models, and even some of the more obscure models show a storm. Not just A storm, but a storm with a shitload of precipitation. Now, I am not saying that this is going to be the outcome, but the models and their outputs are as follows.....GFS (American Model) trended further north, puts us in significant snows 6"+. The Canadian Model absolutly destroys us, dropping between 2 and 3 feet....YEAH! And now, the latest major model out is the European model. I had wrote this morning about how the run last night was so far south, well, needless to say, it has now trended with the other models and destroys us as well......1-3 feet. Also, one of the funnier things I looked at today was at a model that historically is not that reliable, the JMA (Japenese model). This model has never really been that great, but back in 2003, this model was the first to predict the Presidents Day storm from 7 days out and never waivered.......and now, this model has the same track as the Canadian model and the Euro model. There is a saying too, that when all the foreign models agree, LOOK OUT! We have struck that period and we are now looking at a VERY SIGNIFICANT THREAT for MONDAY, TUESDAY and into WEDNESDAY....yes, this could actually be a three day event!!!!!!!!! I dont want to have my panzy meter fully pegged, but I will tell you all, this is the most excited I have been in a while for snow.......this very well could turn this winter into a very memorable winter. if things keep up, and the models are showing the same outcome Sunday Morning, I will officially be HONKING MAJOR STORM!!!! Until then, I am trying to control myself and keep composure. Wait till you watch the news tonight, they will be honking big time!!!! You heard it here first!!!!!!! Stay tuned.....I will continue to monitor the situation!!!!!!

The new computer model runs give the Lehigh Valley a foot plus of snow with one of them (the Canadian model) giving us upwards of two feet of light, fluffy, powdery snow

attached is a map of potential snow accumulations bases on a 10:1 snow ratio which may be too low. Ration may be around 15:1 thus giving us more.post-660-1171131678_thumb.jpg

The storm is coming from the west coast. Its supposed to get here by Monday night, to Tuesday morning. When its down south, near Tennessee, the track will be more thought through. The computer models are just that, models. Not very accurate this year so far.
