  1. looking nice, Elk was always smart about the way they run that hill.
  2. maybe a bugaboo lulz The yellow and blue bugaboo has to be the most popular jacket in skiing history.
  3. I did the long tour from the tower that's in Goodman's book and some other slack country stuff....never enough time though to do it 100%
  4. two events in the mix for next week, Tuesday and maybe a bomb in the fri to sat time frame.
  5. Last night was excellent, no one around and easy snow.
  6. probably 70%, the runs that are currently closed are the glades and the steep shit off the traverse. None of which I think they blow on....extrovert has guns I think but I can't think of a time they have actually blown there. The east traverse glades are boney as all hell so I can't see how 6" is going to make that difference but who knows.
  7. so much stupid bull shit in this thread
  8. Killington has lots of good skiing, it is the third highest peak in vt and has lots of slack country lines. Suicide Six is a great hill, while short its sustained steepness is tough to beat. Additionally it isn't crowded and has excellent trees. Shit even Bromely has some sweet lines back to the highway. Bolton has a six mile long 4000 vert line that's equal to alot of the stuff in the notch. The best part about little places is you don't have to fuck around with 10,000 people all trying to do the same thing.
  9. Less people at BV and there are quality steeps and trees they just aren't on the map.
  10. sick but tougher to get to than alot of other places
  11. I'm using pits as shorthand for the 1000 things that encompass avy assessment. If you can't determine the pack is coming unglued so much that the flats are dangerous well then .....lulz There are always places that can be skied safely
  12. I also don't think they groom very well, alot of stuff last night had berms forming and that's just plain newb stuff. A good groomer is like artist who understands how their mountain gets skied and grooms accordingly. Any idiot can run up and down the slope with the carpet down. I will give the dudes at Bear that, they have unique techniques due to the low snow depth and they can make quality cord like mofo's.
  13. It depends which is always the right answer unless you were out digging pits. Rain can be a stabilizing factor in circumstances with faceted snow in that the rain will sometimes create rounds. It can also be destabilizing like Glenn said. Temperature of the pack can be more important than what fell out of the sky or certainly wind, if you aren't in that area digging pits there is no way really to know.
  14. This app is buggy as all hell, for some reason it thinks I went skiing today though all I did was drive to work. It loses parts of days or entire days for seemingly no reason and it never matches on line with what my phone says after skiing. Last night my phone says speed of 59.2, check this morning and it 47.7, I know where I skied and it always has me on trails I wasn't on. I think I'm done with it.
  15. When was the last time they hung out at a Nastar night, 90% of Nastar is old dudes (myself included) young kids don't race unless your at Burke.
  16. by tuesday it will be cold down to 2500ft
  17. 3 inches in reading....know idea on the metric went to public school
  18. Do you only have one car ? This is Merica how come you don't have your 4 state mandated land yachts yet. You know there are alot of sweet mtns where you can't even stay slopside....GASP!!!!
  19. Just stay and eat/drink in Burlington and drive to whatever mtn you want to hit.
  20. A long time ago I was at Alpine Ghettos in Beaver Bowl working slack routes near Granite Chief gate. In between Beaver and Estelle Getty bowl there is a sweet section of trees, sick day lots of snow roll into the tree section for what had to be the 10th time and catch something underneath the snow. In 1/10 of a second I'm upside down in a pine tree, as I'm trying to figure out what is going on I realize there is awful lot of snow around my head and that I'm kind stuck in this position. OH FUCK ITS A WELL, I can't describe the urge to panic everything you think would run through your mind does. I know your not supposed to thrash around but still I do which only causes more snow to fill in the area I'm trying to clear around my head. I mean how fucking stupid would it be to die like that......the gap in between my boot and binding had gotten stuck on a lower little branch and eventually I realized I had lucked out and could use this to pull myself out. Was probably really stuck for no more than a minute but scariest experience of my skiing life for sure. Pretty sure if the ski didn't catch on that branch I would be dead.
  21. some models moving west with more QPF still better than that r word
