Actually the racing team brings in lots of money to the mountain and supposedly paid the mountain to build the run specifically for them to use. If you haven't noticed the increase in racer training, etc., you're under a rock, as Barb knows from where the money comes... It's BMR that allows the public to use Razors, not the other way around.

I agree that it's a waste of space to put bumps on Challenge when it's brutal cold, as they're only going to get rock hard and nobody's going to ski them.

Knew it wouldn't be too long until they seeded bumps on it. I can take or leave them on Challenge, unless they seeded them pretty tight, then they're all right. If they spread them out too much, they're going to get too icy until we get some warm weather.

If Blue didn't groom the crap out of the slopes, the place would be virtually empty. Only the hard-core would be skiing it! How wonderful would that be! Hell, we're lucky they left Nightmare & Dreamweaver alone the last snowfall...

I keep waiting to see bumps on Challenge! Yeah, ridge, spine, edge, lip, whichever... The side of the slope where the (semi) soft stuff accumulates. Seems as though the groomers are making a bigger lip on the sides this year. Think they're doing it to keep people from skiing there.

They can only do so much with them due to the man-made snow. Nightmare bumps are only nicer for longer periods because fewer people ski them. If they were as heavily run as Barney's they'd be just as bad. Unfortunately the run is also too short which deters most of the bumper from skiing them. Chute bumps ice up pretty quick because of the steepness and Blue ignores them. They need to be seeded tighter on the steeper section, but they're set the same distance as all the rest. Chute would be a lot more fun if they didn't groom or seed it at all and just blew on it every night. Totally agree that naturally formed bumps in dry Western snow and/or powder are definitely the best. Unfortunately we live on the East coast and have to ski what we've got. I love the early morning, cold weather speed runs on freshly groomed slopes and get that out of the system early. Then it's on to the bumps as by then they've probably been broken down and skied in. If/When they get icy, it's to the ridge where all the boarders have plowed off the grooming into a nice, soft, Pocono powder bank.

That would have been a classic closing line! Don't worry, it eventually will be! Stop wishing the winter away, it's too short as it is already!

That's why I don't bother going after work much anymore. Got spoiled by that 4pm grooming.

Hey all, I just got back from another session at Blue Mountain, well about an hour ago as I had to blow the driveway while I still had ski stuff on. Arrived in the lower lot at 7:35 due to the pokey people driving all over the place with a temp of 6 degrees. It was 4 degrees coming over the mountain. Passed two cars stuffed in snow drifts along 946, both of which had police with them, so there was no need to stop to lend assistance. The place was virtually empty, save a few brave souls willing to brave the unholy winds and crazy temps. I didn't see anyone that I know in the house, other than a few bumpers. First run was down Main Street to warm up in the bumps, which were nice as the wind had filled the troughs so it was ALMOST like skiing powder bumps. Next run was down Razors, which took a ton of effort just to get to the precipice. Of course it was just wind blown hard pack which probably would have been lightning fast except for the wind holding you back. Made a run down Nightmare. The bumps there were similar to Barney's as they were filled in. The rest of the run was just like Razors. Needless to say, pretty much all the runs after that were just like Razors, wind blown bare hard pack with some boiler showing through. It was difficult to find any soft snow at all, even Switchback was blown bare. The glades held a tiny bit, but not a lot. Kept hoping that the winds would die down, but lost all hope around 3:30. I still can't feel the tip of my nose!

Wow, yesterday was definitely in the top 10 days at Blue this year so far. Started out a bit cold which hit you at the top of the 6 where a bit of wind kicked up. Then the snow started falling which kept going throughout the day and made for some excellent conditions. Rumor had it that Barney's wasn't set by Danny, so spacing wasn't exactly on point, but not that bad either, just a bit more sliding into the bumps. Nightmare bumps were about the same, but the spacing at the end got tighter, which would have been nice if the entire run had that spacing. Chute bumps were meh. Unfortunately with nobody skiing them, they weren't broken down and contained a few big chunks. Hit Razors later in the day and found it very slow and skiable with all the new fallen snow. Going full out, I could barely manage any air off the rollers or the lower headwall. Witnessed a wicked collision between two skiers on the upper headwall which brought in a gaggle of ski patrollers. It just boggles my mind how two people can attempt to simultaneously obtain the same space in time with an infinite amount of space around them??? Ended up bugging out around 4:30 with conditions still improving. Unfortunately today probably won't be anywhere near the same...

Wasn't Bear just practice though? Thus, in order to increase actual performance levels, they should have parked farther to work the legs for better performance on real race night?

Probably dad's hand-me-downs and he's only got a size 6 shoe..

With ample cover on all the trails, they could show the glades a little love...
