  1. If this potential storm takes shape I think i'll have to hit JF.
  2. There are some steeps to be had but more Main street than Razor back and not as sustained. However, the varied terrain and the acreage give you plenty to do and when you can hit the side of runs that are fresh snow and bumpy it can make the runs feel longer.
  3. So my friend was running a trip out to Seven Springs so I decided to take the day off to check out a new resort and ski with my friend. Weather during the week had me questioning my decision with the recent warmups and such but a day off on the slopes with hopefully minimal crowds made the decision for me. As the day came closer some of the models looked like there was potential for snow rather than rain so I kept my fingers crossed. As we started the drive and got closer to Pittsburgh we could tell that it had definitely snowed and looked to be continuing as we went. Arriving at the base lodge we were invited to see at least 5 inches of fresh powder to be found with a steady stream coming down. After getting our lift tickets and changing in the lodge (crap part of a bus trip is the time it takes to get ready when you get there) we hit the slopes. My friend was familiar with the mountain so he took me across the mountain to skier's left to check out the terrain. As we worked our way around we could tell that it was going to turn into a special day. After working our way over to the lift we were heading too I decided to check out what the tree's looked like with the fresh snow. Coverage was amazing with the fresh stuff really sprucing up the terrain. After hitting the lift back up you could see that the mountain had done a great job of grooming portions of the trails and leaving some parts completely undone so that the fresh snow would pile up nicely. We took a couple runs down avalanche and goosebumps which were soft with some nice bumps which really got the legs going. After dropping off my friends wife we shot over to North face to to check out the rest of the mountain. After finding our way over I ducked off of the trail to skier's right which was ungroomed gold as fresh snow everywhere was creating amazing little bump lines all over the place. After hitting the high speed quad we worked our way across the mountain hitting all of the terrain and jumping off the groomed portions at every opportunity we had to hit the fresh snow. We headed into the lodge to meet my buddies wife for lunch and had a good meal while seeing the great setup for night life at the mountain. We headed out after lunch and hit some more of the north face hitting the various glades and some tree shots off map. More hits of trails under the lift which bumped up nicely and other trails to be had. Skiing was great we were getting every piece of terrain we could get our eyes on. My buddy decided to turn it in around 4 so I went solo and just hit more terrain all over the mountain again sticking to the sides of trails which were just skiing amazingly all day as the snow continued to fall. THe bus left at 7 so I called it a day around 6:15 to change and grab a drink the great bar the foggy goggle. Bus trip home was uneventful and as we left it was still snowing estimates I saw were around 8 inches over the two days and the lack of crowds and quick lift lines really made it one of the best days of the year. To sum up the experience I couldn't really had asked for much better conditions. The only way conditions could have been much better would have been if we did not have the warm up because it added a little bit of slickness under the fresh snow but minimal and not noticeable most of the time. I have little experience in freshies and not much bump experience so this day really was a great working day for me where I really got to work on my technique and my legs were really feeling the burn of some more technical skiing but loving it. The mountain while not having the best vertical does have a lot of good terrain and the mountain feels very big with a lot of acreage for a PA mountain. The only points I felt were lacking were sustained pitches and the glades while fun were a little too cut out. Groomers did a great job and the mountain really has a good setup as far as lodge, staff and lift system. Bus view as we got closer View from the lodge Amazing view of the snow coming down Great fresh snow off the groomed trail under the lift View from the top of north face area Nice lodge at the top of the mountain with a lake outside View down avalanche Me coming down one of the glades Horrible posture coming off a bump lol backseat much.... God I suck...
  4. I wish I was closer to these mountains because that's a great deal.
  5. And stay on east mountain where you'll get away from the vast majority of beginner's/think there intermediates.
  6. I haven't been there in a couple of weeks but they were skiing nicely the last couple times I was there. I imagine right now they have to be thin to nothing though. Some of the other guys should be able to give you a report as up to date as yesterday.
  7. I can't even imagine this as I have no real powder experience. Looking to be a good season for you guys. Keep em coming.
  8. With the impending weather event and everything that was coming to the Poc's I figured we should head north to get out of the crap. The weather report was showing a snow event at Platty so I was hoping for a slight powder day. We got up at 3:30 and hit the rode by 4 to try and make opening. After a unfruitful event at Pricechopper where they couldn't process there own discount lift tickets I got screwed on the deal and ended up paying full price at the mountain. Great deal if anyone can get it though 29 lift vs. 58 for ticket window. Anyway after arriving at the mountain 15 minutes before lifts started we booted up and headed up to the top. Weather was good with a slight nip in the air but a little foggy at the top 20% of the mountain. After we hit the lift (which was ski on all day!) the wife wanted to take the first run down the beginner trail. We headed down and found the snow that they had gotten recently and the groomer's were doing amazing work as the snow was absolutely awesome. After getting half way down I talked the wife into trying the bottom half of the mountain's intermediate runs. We hit shredded mozzarella and found a great run which had nice undulations on the run. After another lift ride she decided to give lower face a run which was a great pitch with wide open space and snow everywhere. A few more runs in I broke off to check out the rest of the runs off the skier's left lift with some nice ungroomed on a section of the blue sundown. Upper face was a really fun expert run with some really big undulations that you could definitely get air off if you didn't see them coming. Skier's right had soft bumps but the fog was really thick so I was hoping to wait for the clear up to give them a try but didn't get the chance. The wife did really well skiing all the blues off of that lift with ease by the end of the day. Around 11:30 she wanted to head in to use the restroom and take a break so I made my way over the the other lift were the day really got good. After skiing over I met up with two guys from Alpinezone that were hitting the mountain this weekend. Really nice guys who were glad to show me around a mountain that they loved. We hit runs down all the open expert trails and the snow was amazing. The groomer's would leave sections of most the trails ungroomed which were filled with hero snow and great cover. After hitting most of the runs we saw that the rope on freefall was down (or sagging to the point that it was covered by snow so you make the call ) with completely ungroomed snow and some thin cover. This was boot to knee deep and had clearly been poached most of the day but man was it fun. I really have limited powder experience and I could feel my ski's diving but after just taking my time and working my way down man was that fun. We did a couple more runs around the mountain and down the other lift when we decided to head into lunch. Had a couple of drinks and lunch with the guys and wife and headed back out for round 2. The wife and I did a couple runs at which point she decided she was done just a little too tired and she wanted to to be ok to ski today so good call. All in all a great progression day where she skied things that I would never have thought she would without me pushing her down the hill. With the wife in the lodge I headed over to the other lift and caught back up with the guys and we continued to hit every run they had (mostly which were open). Found some great snow to be had and the conditions really held on almost all day. All in all I really enjoyed this mountain with its small time feel and amazing conditions some thin spots to be found but easily avoidable. The mountain seems to really let the terrain dictate what the trails look like as natural dips and drops exist all over the place and the groomers allow the natural terrain to dictate the trails. I really wish the snow we were forecasted showed up because there were definitely trees to be had but nothing looked very skiable without rock skis but I can see how a powder day would be absolutely amazing. View up the skier's left lift Great little ungroomed run under the lift View down skier's right lift Wife flying down the mountain (intermediate run)
  9. As always great pics Sib. Looks like you guys are living in powder.
  10. So the wife and I on the way home from Plattekill decided to hit Sno for the morning session with our vouchers. I have never been to Sno but with everyone on the site always talking about conditions and white lightening I knew I had to get there. So we hit the lodge at about 8:30 after the 2 hour drive from Kingston and booted up to get on the snow. I wasn't sure how my wife was going to hold up considering we had skied the whole day at Platty and she was skiing terrain she normally wouldn't but I was amazingly surprised. We started the day hitting every intermediate at the top of the mountain (also unusual for my wife who usually wants to start on greens) and the conditions were really nice. The sno was definitely soft from the heat/rain but there weren't many spots showing through and ice was not to be found the groomers really did a great job. The soft snow really skied well with nice piles forming up. After a couple runs I went to the bottom of the mountain to check out the expert terrain and hit the blacks on the right side of the mountain which had awesome snow that was a lot of fun where you could fly down and hit some hops on the way down. Long haul was running so I met my wife at the top after each run and after a couple I had her convinced to give her first black a try. After some prepping and stopping at the top she went down like it was nothing commenting how much easier it was to ski the steeper terrain. Something i've been telling her forever lol. Really a great progression weekend for the wife after a great day at Platty. After this I broke from the wife who stuck to some more blues while I went to check out the rest of the mountain. After great runs down all the trails which had great snow that wasn't piling up yet I decided it was time to see what White lightening was all about. I wasn't quite aware that it would be wall to wall bumps but after getting to the top theres only one way to go so I headed down the soft snow. The bumps skied awesome as the soft snow let you hit them and get great control. Very little ice at all that I could see and it was so much fun. Had I not been on day two of the trip I would of lapped this to work on my bump skiing which I have very little experience. Starting to feel like i'm getting better but I can't seem to tell my head to link the turns/hits through the lines still too much sliding in my opinion but you know what getting the practice in and really enjoying it. After this I went to meet the wife because it was noon and she was shot so we decided to call it a weekend and head home. All in all I really like sno for the conditions and some unique terrain. Definitely hope it finds a good owner that adds in the right areas. By the end of the day I think the conditions are going to deteriorate quickly but I think that consistent in the area as the temp went from 30 on the mountain at 12 to 47 by the time I got through the tunnel on the TP. Good luck to us all. Top of white lightning Bottom view ya can't tell the steepness from this shot. After the run. Wife after her first black
  11. Love the grammatical error in the comment about the grammatical error . Have an amazing time guys!
  12. Heading over to sno on the way home for the first time. Anybody going to be there? Any idea what conditions are like after the weather?
  13. 20 in the rain your an animal. We avoided the rain and unfortunately any accumulating snow up here at Plattekill but conditions were awesome just great grooming and the ungroomed stuff was a lot of fun. Went down a couple of trails as ropes dropped or were sagging enough to be covered by snow to boot deep snow that was a lot of fun. Met up with some guys from alpinezone and had a great day. Will post a tr when I get home.
  14. So I think i'm going to try out Plattekill tomorrow. Will still hit Sno on Sunday. Let me know if anyone is going to be there.
  15. With the impending weather this weekend I'm thinking about heading farther north where it should hopefully be snow and not ice. Maybe Bellayre, Hunter or Wyndham. Not sure yet think I will be hitting Sno on the way home Sunday if anyone will be there. What's everyone else's plans?
  16. I agree. Just from seeing my wife have no clue where the hell she is half the time in the car and on the mountain I can imagine there are so many people that just get way out of there element.
  17. Been my though as well... Unfortuantely.
  18. So pissed my buddy bailed on me for my Utah trip so I guess my out west trip isn't going to happen this year.... Unless I go by myself.
  19. Nice report toast glad conditions are good there. Bumps on the chute sound interesting especially since there probably not rock solid ice yet.
  20. Qutting PASR seems to be the current go to move.
  21. My wife's sister is in Weisbaden so i'm trying to link a trip up to go to the alps while she visits at some point but looks like you had a good one. Dad looked like he was killing it lol.
  22. I'm guessing this will be a big swing for operations probably an actual lift from top to bottom lol. Just hope some land developer doesn't get a hold of it and put up houses or other garbage. Limited options in driving distance from Philly so we don't need to lose another.
  23. My cousin had a lot of trouble on Laurel the first run but by the end she was a champ. Keep them at it they pick it up so damn fast.
  24. I think you were spotted by KC lol. Recognized your ski's i think....
