  1. crazy icy last nite. ski patrol was progressively closing the mtn down early, and for good reason. it wasn't safe out there at all last nite.
  2. looks sick. have fun and be careful in those trees.
  3. one also needed a ride to get out there. so not having a car didn't help my cause either, lol.
  4. a good college buddy of mine lives in state college and tussey is his home hill. i've skiied there with him a couple of times....it's good for what it is. oddly enough, i never did ski at tussey when i was attending PSU. #poorcollegestudent
  5. boomer is a nice slope to practice and get used to skiing bumps. also of note, smoke has been skiing surprisingly well this year. last weekend far skier's right was chalky goodness, and they actually had some little bumps going on the head wall as well.
  6. glad you had a good time at montage. we're there just about every sunday. montage has invested a lot in their snowmaking infrastructure and renovated the lodge over the past few years. still a work in progress, but headed in the right direction. montage does have a leg up on blue by a) being further north, b) having higher elevation, and c) less crowds...all of that adds up to better snow conditions. (similar reasons why elk usually has a good man-made snow product also).
  7. Bluebird day, machine made pow pow, soft bumps, and loads of ppl on the hill and in the lodge. Snow was in really good shape all over the mtn, but by late afternoon all the skier traffic was taking its toll, and the base was poking through. Runs of the day were white lightning, boomer, and smoke. Here's the crew after a good run down WL. @tinymoose looking skeptical at WL. Took us an hour to get a seat in the restaurant. Apres included fries topped with cheese, pulled pork, and BBQ sauce, pickle fries, wings, and beers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. fun nite at race clinic at blue mtn last nite. soft, spring snow conditions were in order. not ideal for racing, but made for some fun mogul skiing. they set a 20-meter gs course for us on widowmaker, and we were focusing on smooth, finessed turns with low to moderate edge angle and forward pressure. even still, the course was severely rutted after two or three times down. half-way through the nite they had us slip the hill and they reset the course. bumps on nightmare were nice, and barney's was fun, but getting some really deep troughs. apres was wings and guinness.
  9. i was up there for the thursday PM racing class. snow was still in good shape. GS was setup on razor's...good layout, but was quite scraped off by the end of the nite. ran into atomic jeff on the course and chatted with him for a few. guinness and wings afterwards hit the spot.
  10. we skied montage yesterday and had a blast. pretty good coverage for early season, and the 5 inches of natural snow from last week's storm helped things out a bit. we did a few warm-up laps on high ball and switch. snow on highball was very nice...so it was prime-time tip-it and rip-it. visibility on switch was a problem, and with the surface undulations (prepping for the terrain park features i presume), care had to be taken with each turn. we spent the rest of the day on the north face, alternating between cannonball and boomer. run of the day was definitely boomer. best snow on the mtn and they left it ungroomed, so a nice mogul field was starting to develop. nothing too crazy, but at least it was nice to get some solid bump practice in on day 2 of the 2019-2020 season. cannonball was OK, but had a lot of traffic on it which was causing some areas to become scraped off. the flats near the lift had a bunch of death cookies early on, but they got mowed down as more ppl hit up that area. we found that the death cookies were not really a problem, even though we were on SL skis, as long as we we skied assertively and kept the skis on edge. apres was at the slocum hollow bar. hot tea and chili was in order after a good day on the slopes. we'll most likely be back up again next weekend.
  11. um...not unless you learn to ski moguls safely/properly
  12. Got a late start on the day and was on snow by 11:30-ish. Lots of sun, soft snow, and no crowds: just the way I like it. White lighting was buttery soft and was the run of the day. Recharged with some chili and Guinness, of course. Gonna go back out for a few more slides down WL. Pretty solid day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. good stuff! glad you had really good conditions overall.
  14. I've found that glades in the ADK tend to be tight b/c of the type of trees there. I like my glades a little more open.
  15. looks tasty. @Schif to me WF skis small. not vertically, of course, but it's not a very wide or expansive mtn.
  16. way to get it! oh, def hit up smoke signals. you won't be disappointed.
  17. For those interested: Montage is offering 2019/2020 season pass for $299. I believe the offer is valid 3/1 through 3/31.
  18. nice report. the light was really flat and def made for some interesting sliding. it was colder than forecasted in the AM, which bummed me out. the grooming report stated that WL and Boomer were ungroomed....but there wasn't a mogul to be seen. oh well.
