Sibby:

Did you add in the income from the season's passes for the racers siblings and parents, and ski programs for the parents (most of CBs Master's program is race parents)? Also, the income to the fireside grill and bar from these parents? I suspect our race parents have the most induced livers on the planet... Plus, a fair number have weekend homes at Northridge, etc. I'd agree, the total income package is not totally trivial.

More importantly, the race program gives CB credibility and visibility. It keeps CB on the map of resorts that offer quality programs. It also keeps certain administrators amused. CB wouldn't support racing if it weren't a big plus...

Three CB racers were invited to train with the JO's this year - The Junior Olympics. And, CB finished 10th at the NASTAR Nationals in Park City. BTW, Skierforever, the NASTAR Nationals are for anyone who qualifies...why not get out there and try ...too afraid you'd have to admit that racing is fun?

I liked skimom's reply..

I think we have spent enough at CB to have a trail named after us plus fund any deficit they might have from paying all the life Guards :naughty ... OOPS that's country club stuff.... oh well.... :lol

He is not as dumb as he looks (or use to be.) The Daves are real good at removing his posts that are bashing the race team, however now he is just bashing racing in general, which and I don't think they are willing to remove posts with someone opinion on that....What can ya do?

Theres not many people left on the CB MB...if they go banning the people who most frequently post there, the board will be deader than it already is.

Did something change? Have some of us forgotten Skierforever is bitter old bitch that gets off on writing inane comments just to get a rise out of anyone? And DaveK is just as big of a bitch for sticking up for that p*ssy by banning people who tell Skierforever to shove it up his already filled *ss.

Kulish banned me for life three times for telling Skierforever I would pull his arms off if I ever found out who he was.

I read cb's message board and I'm always amazed that Skimom and Sibhusky dignify Skierforever's remarks by responding to them. He does seem to post things solely to get a rise out of people.

But he's categorically wrong by suggesting that ski racing is "dying". Just this year my local high school reinstated their ski racing team after a ten year absence. My local newspaper gives tremendous coverage to the area high school ski racing teams. The newspaper also did two feature articles on local kids involved in ski/snowboard racing.

If anything - the press coverage suggests that ski racing is GROWING in popularity.

His comments are never based on any actual knowledge or fact. He has no clue as to the participation levels of USSA, which is the true measurement of interest in ski racing in the US.

An American just won the overall World Cup. What kind of an asshead picks this time in history to announce racing is dead?

Skierforever is just a stinky old brownie hound that surfs porn and any message board that welcomes his stupidity (CB's!).

The problem is that, I don't have access to that info either and I have looked for it.

Oops, just found something. Posting this to RideCB:

In that FREESKIER forum, one post by someone named "Big_Mike" reads, "As much as racers try to deny it, the facts speak for themselves: racing is declining in popularity. It would not surprise me if the very statistics that [John] Meyer [of the Denver Post] cites regarding the increase in USSA membership are due to increased interest in snowboarding and freestyle programs." In fact, USSA's alpine youth program shows a four-year growth rate of 40 percent. Snowboarding took a big drop in membership last year. Furthermore, NASTAR's 12-and-under category is up over 30 percent in the last three years.

Isn't Nastar frequently referred to as a great feeder program to the USSA?? :yes

Wanna know how the economy is doing in 6 months. Check with local governments on how many building permits were applied for compared to previous months... :rock

BTW - there is a place for freeskiing too!!!!!!!!! :wiggle

Heh, I've read this thread and it is very similar to some of the feedback I hear on the hill from non-racers and those who never understood the idea of competition. I see it all the time from those people who never competed in competitive sports and those types who 'only ski in the morning on weekdays because of the crowds'. I am a USSA Alpine Race Coach and have noticed in the last few years the participation in Alpine SKi Racing has grown quite a bit, what is declining is adult racing/Masters. Snowboarding competition is not a pariah to ski racing, in fact the 'real' competitors in snowboarding are serious athletes who are not the same as the coined phrase 'kassholes'- after a 'freestyle' dude who cant finish a sentence. Anyone see any interviews with him? Anyway, getting back to the person who started this thread, here is what I have to say:

You know we are sorry that your favorite trail is closed down for training and/or a race. Too bad. Just like the Football players play on a playing field, our playing field is on the slopes. I know there are most likely 100 other trails that are open, but since you want to get on the trail that is closed for training athletes, you have a burr up ur rear. Being from the country club crowd I would think you might actually have an idea of how important it is for young men and women to pursue an activity that promotes health, confidence and being outdoors. I guess 'country-club' crowd doesn't necessarily mean intelligent. Get your facts and figures correct and get connected to what is going on in the world of Ski racing. If u look at the list of competitors just in thelocal area, you will see that the sport of ski racing has such depth that most people cant even fathom the amount of people that compete nationwide. There are tens of thousands of youths and adults that compete and they all contribute to the proliferation of the sport of skiing finacially and popularity-wise. I suspect that you are making a judgement on the basis of skiing about 10-20 days a year, which is more than some but much less than just about all ski racers and their families. As u sit in your den with the metal circular fireplace reading SKI magazine, remember that you are nothing but a teetotaler when it comes to the sport of skiing and that trail u couldnt get on that is sticking in your craw was closed for people who are working on improving their abilities and pay a whole lot more than u do for a season of skiing. Your kind is all around us, your the same people that get mad, when we are Mt Biking on a trail to get in shape for the season, that we are disturbing your peace of hiking, which only lasts for about 1 mile from where u parked. You dont want the trail or ski hill closed to Mt Bikers and racers, you want the whole thing to yourself.

Excuse the typos, this isnt English Comp 101 and I have to go back to work, I cant lounge around the CC all day.
